Excellent video, buddy. I've used one of these for years and have had only one bad result that couldn't be explained. A standard 1970s MCA pressing (Jerry Jeff Walker) with a decent little warp was ruined -- deformed grooves -- after only 45 minutes. That one still makes no sense, but since it was a Jerry Jeff album maybe it was already baked. Insert rimshot here. Of the other 40 or so records I've tried, most got either perfectly flat or acceptably flat. Five or six had no change at all, mostly edge warps. For the most part, damage caused by a Vinyl Flat is user error. People simply forget to set a timer and bake that shit like a Thanksgiving turkey.

NICE ! I've own mine for 2 years now and it has saved a lot of my LP's . I find that most new LP's are warped .I'd like to test the audio before & after some day . Use a nice type 4 cassette and my Nak to record the two . As of yet , I have not been able to tell a difference . Merry Christmas Bob !!!

Thank you so much, I’m over here trying to bring new elements to the channel. Lol this was my first attempt with the vinyl flat, I feel more testing is required before I can actually tell someone to go buy it. Working on a stubborn edge warp now. I get the impression it might not fix the most extreme cases. Cheers and vinyl luck in the new year!

@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL Bob, great video. Not sure if my last comment got registered.. I'll make a comment as an engineer about the edge warp. Looking at the design of this product, the thing that creates pressure between the plates is the weight of the top platter only and the tightening of the screw. while I imagine the plates are rigid, the bulk of the pressure is centered around the spindle because of the screw. If there was a way to add clamps evenly spaced (with one close to the edge warp) on the perimeter of the plates tightened evenly and as firmly as the center screw, with miniature C-clamps (do search for "miniature c-clamp" on Ebay or Amazon) , that may do the trick on edge warps. Just a suggestion!

Good stuff, Bob. That seems extremely effective. I’ve seen other vinyl flatterers that cost in the thousands, but the Vinyl Flat seems to work well for a fraction of the cost. My only worry would be melting the grooves, but that obviously wasn’t an issue. Thanks, Bob. Appreciate the vid!

Analogue Productions is set to repress this title in 2022! Along w/ the rest of those 50 Prestige titles they did a few years ago. 'Lush Life' and 'Rollins Plays For Bird' being the first two back in stock - though 'Lush Life' i believe is already sold out.

Great video, Bob. I've been hesitant on purchasing one since the general consensus has always been that you can not effectively flatten a warped record. I'm going to take the leap and purchase one.

Great video. I'll definitely check this product out. I had assumed you'd only use this for older vinyl you find warped. Curious why you didn't simply return this one to the manufacturer? Then again, you can now write this one off on your taxes! ;-)

Well, not bad for my first attempt, sadly I get way more warped records though the mail than out of an old Dusty bin. When I saw the record I knew it would be the perfect candidate for a video like this, which is the only reason it didn’t go back.

I’ve had mine for about 6 years now and it works great. It will fix any mild warp no problem on the 1st try. Stubborn ones it could take 3 to 4 tries. Be careful with high quality virgin vinyl, do not leave it in longer than 1 hour max (it will ruin the vinyl).
@vladiladdie

Can be a good option for some recods. However, the room temperature, the weight of the record and time is crucial to getting results, otherwise the warp will go but the vinyl will melt and will be noisy as heck or completely unplayable. In my experience I only got 50-50 chance of actually fixing a record the rest failed

How many days is recommended to let a record inside the Vinyl Flat if you want to do the process without heating it?

I have two glass plates about a 1/4 of an inch thick that I put on either side and put in the oven at 135f and let it warm up to temp. I then let it set about an hour then turn the oven off for cool down. I have straightened many records. This is basically the same thing but much more polished! Ha! It is about time someone came out with a contraption to solve warped records. My method cost about 60.00 since I had to buy a special glass that would not crack when heated.

Hey Bob, re-watching this video as I’m thinking of picking one up. Do you think if you took the vinyl flat out of the heat pouch after the 2 hours of heating to let it cool that would work as well? Also, what did you set the heat pouch to in terms of low, medium, high heat?
@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL
@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL 2 жыл бұрын
the pouch only has one setting, it heats to around 130 and thats it. I've been using it without any heat to good results. i think its good to lock them down for a few days and then put about an hour and a half on them depending on record (180 gram) lighter its best to go less. I usally turn it odff a few minutes early and let the record cool in the plates. its about being conservative in the end. hope this helps.
@analog_archive
@analog_archive 2 жыл бұрын
@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL thanks Bob, appreciate your input! For Blue Notes from the 60s that are around 150-160 grams, would you say that 1.5 hours of heat is still good?
@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL

Absolutely, might go conservative depending on the value of the title. you can always try again.
@brucybabyy7355

huh, and it doesn't affect the width of the grooves? i thought the heat would.
@JLeeeP
@JLeeeP 3 жыл бұрын
Well, much more extreme heat is used to initially make the grooves, 350 degrees, and the Vinyl Flat generates far less. If used as intended, the grooves will be fine. It can definitely melt some grooves if left unattended for many hours.
