STORY:
Stanford White was an architect. He was a partner in the architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, one of the most significant Beaux-Arts firms. He designed many houses for the rich, in addition to numerous civic, institutional, and religious buildings. Stanford's design principles embodied the "American Renaissance".
In 1906, Stanford White was shot and killed at the Madison Square Theatre by Harry Kendall Thaw, in front of a large audience. Thaw was a millionaire who had become obsessed by White's alleged rape and relationship with his wife Evelyn Nesbit, which started when she was 16, four years before their marriage.

Thank you for this. Stanford White was my paternal grandmother’s uncle. Her maiden name was White. This story has always intrigued me. I had no idea where he was buried. Oddly I could never get my grandmother to tell me very much about him.

You should do one on the Christine Jessop case from Queensville Ontario Canada. The little girl was abducted, raped and murdered in 1984 and left in a forest. The police found her body a couple of months later. For 37 years the murderer wasn't caught until just last year through DNA. The neighbour was originally convicted and charged with the crime and did prison time. The police thought he was weird so they pinned it on him. Evidently it wasn't him and the person who did do it wasn't even on their radar in 1984.

So sad! Glad they found out who did it! After I found out he died before being identified and that he and his wife were friends with little Christine's parents and was never a suspect or even talked to is mind-boggling especially since he was familiar with the area her body was found! Terrible

Such a fascinating story! Both Stanford White and Harry K. Thaw were creepy, in different ways and took advantage of Evelyn Nesbitt. Yet we can't deny White's talent and accomplishments as an architect. Love your comment that he helped himself- geez he sure did. I couldn't believe that outrageous old photo of Thaw in prison with all the creature comforts!! This guy murders White in a crowded audience of people and gets away with it. Evelyn was really beautiful but I imagine naive and I'm glad she moved on and continued her career. I noticed she had a son Russell. She claimed he was Thaw's son, but the family didn't buy it. I loved this visit to White's elaborate gravestone and the lovely ragtime piano!! So perfect Ron, loved this!!💙

I loved this, Ron! Knew some of the details but it had been a while. I've seen Ragtime and there was a story on Evelyn or the era she lived in on PBS one night. I remember about the red velvet swing . This young lady was beautiful and I'm glad you mentioned about the vintage photos showing hair to be very dark, even if it wasn't, because I read she had copper tresses. She started modeling at a young age and helped the family with expenses after her father died. It seems she persevered even after all this scandal and confusion. Hate to say it but they were both a pair of creeps, even with White being a gifted architect, the husband looked as repulsive physically as he was in character.

One additional anecdote regarding Frederick Law Olmsted. He and his brother designed many residential subdivisions around the turn of the century. One such is called The Gardens, located on the north end of Pecks beach which is now Ocean City New Jersey. The Olmsted brothers aversion to straight or parallel lines today causes difficulty among the design professionals during routine survey work in the neighborhood. As an architect myself, I have received sealed surveys with parts of the property labeled " indeterminate" or "area in question". Thank you Fred Olmsted. Nice job with Central Park, though.

Love your channel. I used to visit graveyards starting in 8th grade with my BFF. I love history and loved to read the gravestones and was quite intrigued. I too lost a daughter in 2018 to acute leukemia. I've studied Heaven..NDE etc after she passed because I was so interested in where my daughter is after she passed. You really do a great job telling interesting stories and almost taking us back in time with your great storytelling abilities. I look forward to every new video you post. I was obsessed with this as a Teenage years ago, Thaw has buildings in his name at the U Of Pitt, the family at least. I always remember there's always a Pittsburgh connection to that. And I still think that Evelyn was quite the Striking figure, you could understand why she captivated people and why all this happened. The Original Crime of The Century, until Summer of 94. Still true! My Gpa had an affair while married to my Gma (several actually) anyway, one night at a bar the lady was bothering him and hanging all over him sloppy drunk. Not very gentlemanly, he gave her a good shove backwards. She lost her balance and hit her head on the corner of the bar. To make a long story short, she died from her injuries. My Gpa was a Mafia guy and owned several businesses so he was very wealthy and well known in the community. He went to jail for a few months but ended up getting pardoned by the Governor of our state. I have the actual paperwork. It’s ridiculously unfair to that poor lady but fascinating nonetheless. Just because he was family doesn’t mean I agree with it. I hope she is resting in peace….him too now.

Say Ron, if you’re ever in New England, you can visit the site of the Deerfield Massacre in Deerfield, MA. Occurred on Leap Day Feb. 29, 1704. Native raid on settlement with 56 dead and 60 taken captive to Montreal. Dead were buried in a mass grave in the old cemetary. Museum has a door with hatchet marks still in it. Story can be found on Wikipedia under “Raid on Deerfield”.

But back to the story, poor Evelyn being entangled with two sex offenders both of whom managed to carry on crimes because they had money. Glad she moved away and started over

Just wanted to comment on your thoughts about CA. My aunt was buried near Los Angeles. Her coffin was placed on top of another coffin. This is due to lack of space. There is no monument as it is first buried and first with a monument.
