Say what you will, but Appalachian State was a good team. They were, I believe, the two-time defending FCS National Champions and won it again in 2007, so it wasn't really as horrible as some would believe. The game that Michigan SHOULD never live down losing occurred in 2008: Toledo. The Rockets were terrible. They went 3-9 that season, finished tied w/Eastern Michigan for LAST place in the MAC West Division, but beat Michigan in Ann Arbor. THAT was a true disgrace. Of course, that was RichRod's first season and Lloyd Carr left him with a bare cupboard. In fact, there was a joke that Michigan would be unable to make it to Columbus to play Ohio State that year because they couldn't get past Toledo. 2007, though, was the beginning of Michigan's continuing woes. I know he's reviled in Ann Arbor, but the truth is, you can thank RichRod for the best season Michigan has had in recent seasons, 2011. They went 11-2, beat a "down" Ohio State team (barely), and won a BCS Bowl game vs. Va. Tech. It was Hoke's first year, but it was with RichRod's recruits. Chew on that.

OSU just has the more talented players, and the perfect scheme to embarrass michigans defense. Saturday made me take a step back as a Michigan fan and realize that they just might not be as talented as we thought they were, and the big ten isn't as impressive as we think it is. Michigan made the other big ten teams look awful, and then OSU did that to Michigan. OSU is the best team in the big ten by far. (edited for further comment) Michigan is very talented yes, but not as talented as OSU. They've had better recruiting classes(ratings wise) than UM for the past decade & OSU had the second best class last year where as Michigan had the 22nd with no 5 star recruits. It adds up. The only way to beat a more talented team is to have a better game plan and urban definitely had the better game plan this year. I believe beating OSU is possible but only if Harbaugh is willing to make the necessary adjustments.

Or you can hope and pray like Rich Eisen that Urban Meyer retires!
@APsupportsTerrorism5 жыл бұрын
What they don't get is that ... even if Urban retired, we'd just bring in somebody like Ryan Day. Ohio's baseline - in down years - will always be 9wins and ending with a Happy Thanksgiving so long as just an above-average Ohio-born Tressel type coach can put up a fence around the State and keep most of the talent home. It goes up from there, as Tressel routinely had 10win+ seasons and Urban routinely hits 11... both while owning that team up North. We don't need a "savior" that bombed out of the NFL in Columbus. Just a decent coach that can recruit locally... and then build on that with studs like Urban when we can. We could probably bring Fickell back at this point and continue beating Michigan. Probably not be in the Playoff conversation every year... but I'm happy so long as we're beating them and going to Indy on a regular basis.

You can give the Michigan coaching staff a huge assist. Over the last 15 years, this rivalry has proven that coaching is everything. Michigan has recruited on a high level, but regardless of that, their coaching philosophy is both stubborn and anachronistic. Where Urban Meyer & Jim Tressel were coaches who embraced modernity, Jim Harbaugh has not. As a Michigan fan and supporter, you have most certainly had the edge when it comes to coaching, and it has served as the primary reason for the dominance that you have held. When you look at the score of this game, it is hard to believe how close it was at the 3:37 mark of the 3rd quarter. The blocked punt for a touchdown, and the interception of Shea Patterson deep in UofM territory was the turning point. I don't care how good a defense is, when your offense puts their defense in that position against a team of Ohio State's caliber bad things are going to happen. This has been a constant drum beat for the last 15 years, and until Jim Harbaugh changes the culture of his program, Michigan will continue to be on the losing end of the rivalry. No matter who is at the helm of the Scarlet & Gray. Best of luck this upcoming season! It should be another great year of football, and I will be curious to see what "The Game" will provide us come this coming November. It should be interesting. Cheers!

Meanwhile Michigan only played a couple bad games all season, one against #3 ND which only resulted in a 7 pt. road loss, one again on the road at Northwestern in which they overcame a 17-0 deficit to hand NW their only B1G loss, and the other against Indiana in which they were 1 for 8 on TDs in the endzone and so it could have just as easily been a blowout but looked shaky on paper. I think with the exception of those 3 games, all their games were 14+ point victories and all but the MSU was 21+ point victories. Opposing QBs had the worst games of the season against them, and they were averaging something like 35 pts. in B1G play (which was miles ahead of what they had been in recent years) while simultaneously giving up an average of like 12 or so.

i have to agree a little. EVERYBODY says PURDUE PURDUE PURDUE. Last year it was IOWA IOWA IOWA....fact is OSU has about one terrible game a year where they get blown out ive noticed in the past couple years, but as soon as the top dawg does that the rest go to sleep. Ohio was still putting 50+ points up a game and had the #2 offense by statistics. EVERYONE was sleeping on the buckeyes in the WRONG game. You should have ben scared of OSU REGARDLESS of rank, when you had to come to the shoe...had this been in the big house it may have been a diferent story.....they had a beter shot at beating OSU when peppers was still there. not sure what made them think they had a chance this time.....Urban hasnt lost against them for a reason. but everyone tends to forget about that. and the fact he is undefeated thus far when his team comes in as the rated underdog in the regular season.......sry for the spelling

Your offense got it done, 39 should have been enough to win. You just didn't have anything to keep Haskins from raining footballs down on your head. Last year, he came off the bench and played lights out against you guys, so it wasn't as if you were not on notice of what he could do.
@omieg895 жыл бұрын
banjohombre the 39 is a little deceiving. 7 of those points were gifted by the OSU kick returner botching a ball inside the five. The last TD of the game was in garbage time. Defense was horrendous but the offense couldn’t keep pace in the early stages of the game. Clear as day.

@rmelvin822735 жыл бұрын
@@dwayneross5527 you're exactly right. If Malik Harrison makes the interception Michigan doesn't score a touchdown in the first half at all. If that would've beenthe case, perhaps Urban chooses to go for the touchdown when they're inside the 1-yard line rather than kick a 19 yard field goal before halftime. That would have made the score 28-6 at the half. Only God knows what the second half might have looked like then. The number of head injuries as a result of a ball being dropped after hitting you in the hands could have doubled. The thigh injuries from diving at players, missing them and falling on your face as they run by you might've tripled. and knee injuries sustained after being sacked for the 5th time could have quadrupled. Jim Harbaugh's tenure as Michigan HC has been disappointing so far.
@dexdorrey98345 жыл бұрын
Then your expectations are too high. Michigan simply can't roll the way Alabama and OSU do or even Georgia or LSU can. Higher academic standards + not a talent rich state + competing in state with another power school = 10 wins is a success. Jim Harbaugh will keep Michigan competitive enough that he will beat OSU at some point sooner rather than later even if Urban Meyer stays, but OSU should always have the advantage over U of M going forward. Michigan should have expectations of being a good team, but they have never been and will never be what Bama and OSU are right now.
@brettburton41175 жыл бұрын
I disagree, what were you expecting? Them to best PSU and Ohio state while they were in their prime? It just boils down to the fact that he just can’t find a QB. Also he’s one blocked punt from going to the playoffs 2 years ago.

@@austin_mayle Recruiting isnt the problem, the 2018 recruiting class has been the only non top 10 recruiting class, and even then it was top 25. Personally, I wouldn't say that Harbaugh's tenure has been disappointing. he has taken what was a train wreck of a team and turned them around. They just can't seem to get over that one hump as of yet. Offense has definitely improved. The quarterback play, and offensive line has improved as well. This Ohio State game though, the play-calling was atrocious in my opinion. I stopped watching at the beginning of the 2nd qtr; when Michigan ran the ball on 2nd & 17. They knew the defense was already struggling. The offensive play calling and execution showed 0 aggression. I mean, come out with some fire under your asses, and be aggressive. Move the chains, eat some clock up to give your defense a rest. Take some risks, and quit playing ultra conservatively. That predictable run, run, pass, 3 & out isn't working against the Buckeyes.

Mistake number 1. Karan Higdon guarantees a win. coach never allow your players to give fodder to the other team. I am sure it motivated many Buckeyes to play harder. Footnote...when an opponent has had superior recruitment classes for 10 years do not count them out! OSU's talent and improved coaching beat your squad!

The buckeye fans talking loud today, are the same ones who admitted they were going to get beat on Saturday morning. If you say I'm wrong, you're lying to yourself. If you would have told me Saturday at 11:59 that Michigan would score 39, I'd look you square in the eye and say that they were winning by 2 scores. Harbaugh was outcoached and Brown was out-schemed. Brandon Watson should not have been on the field; and he had a nice year for a guy who took 3 plus seasons to get significant playing time. But, he couldn't run with Campbell, dixon, hill, victor, olave. Needed to run a 4-2-5 nickle set with 3 corners on the field at all times; hill, long, Thomas. Notice I didn't say Watson. Ohio state's forte was never going to be to run the ball. They knew that was Michigans strength on defense. Michigan is my team. Always has been and always will be. My point is that its the same thing with Meyer-coached teams VS Harbaugh-coached teams. I think Meyer would win 10/10 or even 15/15, and its not *ONLY* because Harbaugh sucks (even though he is the most over-payed coach in all of CFB), its also because of the natural matchup. You cannot hang a historic whooping on the #1 defensive team in the nation, and stay out of the top 4. OSU has the most impressive win of the year, plus beat a highly ranked TCU and Penn State team also. 3 big wins should earn them the #4 ranking and a spot in the dance. Sorry Oklahoma, you have had big offensive numbers, but Haskins just surpassed Drew Brees and is now the all time Big Ten single season leader in touchdowns. Haskins also passed Curtis Painter as the Big Ten all time, single season leader in passing yards too. Not to take away from what Oklahoma has done, but the Buckeyes, have had more impressive moments this year, and only lost one game. Go Buckeyes.
