But Labour’s timetable has created a vacuum into which bad headlines have been allowed to dominate. Why can't we have both a successful economy and decent working conditions Jon?

Honestly? The anser is: "Global markets". The UK can isolate itself from the EU, but cannot sustain a healthy economy without global trade. And other countries produce goods cheaper. To compete with the production of cheap goods, 'decent working conditions' - as painful it is to say or hear it - are 'too high a cost'. As are 'decent' wages, these days. The UK can only survive in a global market and workers only thrive when the UK is producing things the world wants and is willing to pay a higher price for these goods, instead buying the 'same' thing, cheaper from Vietnam or Bangladesh (it's not even 'China' anymore).

Growth and austerity have been shown to be incompatible. Problem is where does the money come from to get the growth we need.

@@Sean006 After the last 14 years the country needs competent government. The vision is to make the UK a fairer country. There will be major reforms, but they will have to be done very carefully as change takes money (of which there isn't any), buy in (which will be very hard as everyone is sceptical of everything), and the removal of vested interests (which is very hard now that it costs peanuts to launch social media campaigns against anything).
