I bought a ‘23 Premium brand new because I heard production was ending. I got the dealer invoice price, so around 49k. There’s no other car on the market that has all of the features of the Premium trim, 300hp, DSG, AWD, semi-autonomous driving and a hatchback for that price. The only comparable car was a Kia Stinger and I wouldn’t be caught dead in one. With a slightly de-tuned Golf R engine, but more room and luxury, in 10-15 years I’m willing to bet I can sell this car to an enthusiast for big money. This review will end up being the true flop - mark my words.

The Arteon was not advertised well enough, bottom line. The first couple of years in production before they went all-in on the Golf R power train, DSG, and premium features standard didn't do them any favors. It's arguably one of the most beautiful cars on the road today. Enough room for a family with 2 teenage boys plus bags. The liftback hatch just makes sense. The way it puts down power won't rip your face off, but it pulls like a freight train on hilly or mountain terrain. AWD is a must for us, and it does that extremely well. It makes cross-country road trips a breeze with it's space, comfort, power, 500+ mile range, and consistent 30+ MPG fuel economy. Comparable Audis are under-equipped and under-powered at the same price point. Compared to it's Audi cousins, it is a true value, and is way more attractive, in my opinion. We love the Arteon so much that we bought TWO of them! One Kingfisher Blue, and one Moonstone grey, both 2023 SEL Premiums. People stop to ask us about the cars everywhere we go. It gets way more attention than other premium, high horsepower, sporty, or "halo" cars I have owned in the past. When people find out why we have his-and-hers Arteons, we tell them: They are just that good!

At 52K, VW fail the Arteon with the fake exhaust and too plain interior for a flagship car, not to mentioned the lack of marketing and not bringing to the US the shooting brake or the R model... Most people don't care about this car because they don't even know it exist...two of my friends own a bodyshop and the other a tire shop, neither one have seen one before until I pulled into their buisness... Years back, in the manner of a Mercedes S Class, BMW, or Jaguar etc, Volkswagon released a large expensive luxury saloon. In spite of some rave reviews, it promptly failed to sell. When a VW attempts to push into Audi territory, or vice versa, it seems kind of self-defeating.

I have an Arteon. I like it quite a lot but there are issues. The new price for a non-Premium brand is obviously the biggest problem but there are many others. The interior quality and ambience is poor: there are rattles and creaks. Reliability is average at best with lots of issues with infotainment and electronics, particularly steering wheels in face lift models. The DSG gearbox (no torque converter here in Europe) is great but I've heard of a number of mechatronic failures resulting in repairs costing many thousands. The ride is excellent but it's not at all sporty. The design of the car is very dependent on colour. The yellows and deep reds are real head-turners but my silver Arteon just blends into the masses.

Former Volkswagen fanboy here. First car was a 2002 Jetta GLX, second was a 2008 Passat Lux 3.6 The Passat was amazing…when it worked. That car lasted 8 years before it stopped working and repairs exceeded the value. Currently in a Volvo, and the Arteon was a strong contender for me. I didn’t choose it because it just felt…incomplete. And for the price, it was missing AWD at that time and was underpowered. I see them for sale as 2023s and they’ve depreciated quite a bit. Wished I would have gotten the later version of it, as they added what it was missing but it was too little too late.

@davidlloyd-jones96032 ай бұрын
The only problem the Arteon had was the name of the manufacturer because buyers are so brand-conscious in this segment. . Having owned BMWs and Mercs I bought one and found it to be a wonderful car with the space, style, presence and elegance it's competitors lacked. Fully kitted it was still cheaper than the German competition from Audi A6, BMW 5 and Mercedes E. It is still being built as a station wagon which however lacks the dynamic style and in reality hardly offers more usable space in the trunk. Living in Germany we fail to understand why Americans regard impressive 0 - 60 mph figures as being so important when in reality the low speed limits make it frustrating to drive powerful cars in the States. Here in Germany, traffic permitting, we tend to drive much faster on the highways even with less powerful cars. With the Arteon I could sometimes cover a 200 mile trip in just over two hours, averaging almost 100 mph but most other cars with at least 200 hp are capable of doing the same. The Arteon is a car for the connosieur who likes to drive something different and more interesting than the masses. Unfortunately the choice is becoming less and less.

You hit a lot of things spot on in this video! I had a 13 CC from dang near brand new and up to 95k miles before it got totaled. It was you stated a niche car... I had to take it in for the Tata airbag recall and test drove the "new" Arteon" I loved the look of and updates from my CC but with the 8 speed I left disappointed. fast forward a year or so I got in my accident and came across a 22 MY with the updated transmission and power upgrade..and fell in love! With insurance payout for the CC and talking the dealer down a bit I was able to purchase a 22 with 4k for 20K. A really good deal that a year later I am very happy with. The car runs great looks and does so many things well.. But looking at it realistically VW shot themselves in the for 1) not offering the good engine output and gearbox. 2) and most importantly they over priced it by 10 grand. On the used market these can be great value... but for $50k brand new people are going to pony up a little more for an Audi, or pay less for the more conventional and reliable Honda or Toyota options.

I think people are very willing to buy a 50k three row SUV/CUV with a mainstream badge. But nobody, especially here in the US, wants a 50k sedan from VW. They dont really have the best brand image and have fallen way behind even the Korean brands. Many of their models have had declines in sales. The car makes no sense, too. For a car to be this large with four doors yet a sloping roof that will have rear occupants heads hitting? It's a hard sale. Its a big car, yet not practical as a people hauler. More and more sedans have sloping roofs that make it a miserable experience sitting in the back, so by the end, the use of having rear doors makes little sense. You're better off with a coupe if you want driving dynamics and style. A 50k wagon, minivan, CUV is much more desirable place to sit in the back off than a 50k coupe sedan.

Love this car design I would say its compete with mostly FWD base sportier cars, maxima sr, tlx, s60 newer es fsport. Maybe a v6 gt charger

Well... People say price was the problem. If price was really the problem, you can find low miles 2019 in the low $20ks. the 2022 ones with the mk8 golf R engine is touching below $30Ks. That is an absolute bargain for the performance it delivers. I guess it won't sell still, and this will confirm price was not the only problem.

It was more so proximity to Audi than it was the price itself. FWD-Based design and $50k just don’t align well with people’s wallet unfortunately.

@@BrkDownMediablah blah blah. Keep ignoring actual transaction prices and the fact that no one ever paid full sticker for a new Arteon.

Thr msot common problem is the price and specifications no one is willing to pay 50k for 2.0 its just hilarious

Lol No, No. 50k for 2.0 with a VW badge. Cause people have done with BMW/Merc/Audi and even Acura/Lexus

It was their halo car replacing the CC and Passat. There’s still a few out there, but it’s a Golf R with comfy Cabin.
