I grew up in a Minnesotan marching band. I'm glad I was able to experience a more chill, non-competitve environment. There are competition bands in Minnesota, our district just doesn't do it. We did parades, 9/11 memorials, visited the local VAs, park concerts, performed in a U of M halftime show annually, and obviously our hs football games. But it would have been cool to experience a year in a southern marching band, especially a Texas one.

@@gingechicken7394 I always wondered what bands were like outside of Texas honestly. Granted, there are amazing bands that are able to keep up with, if not destroy, most Texas bands. But, with that said, I'd love to try something different besides stiff competition, ya know?

No offense to these bands but the best hornlines in DCI are louder. Not from membership size, but from a totally different tier of individual volume and the groups blend so much better. The balance and blend makes everything feel louder, look at Frameworks 2002.

I just moved to Texas and my grandson is a freshman this year and joined marching band. I can truly say that Texas has some GREAT high school marching bands. When my daughter marched back in the early 2000s her band always went to BOA Grand Nationals and there were a few Texas bands that would always make finals. Her band was always in the finals as well when she marched. I'm glad my grandson decided to march. I told him he'd have the time of his life and he is.

Im a part of a Texas 4A marching band and our band has some of the most state championships out of all the bands in Texas and it’s definitely been an experience. We went to state for the first time in 9 years and got to march in the stadium shown in the video. We placed 25th out of 26 bands which is fine because some of those bands were insanely good. Marching band is definitely a very serious thing in Texas and can be a bit of a big deal at some schools

@@eventingthedude- My grandson's high school band has been building for a few years and this year they had the most members they've ever had. This year was the first time in 5 years they ever made finals at any of their competitions. In the very last competition his band came in 1st place in their group for semi-finals and won 3 caption awards, then they came in 3rd place overall in finals and won 2 caption awards. They are made up of a lot of freshmen and sophomores. They have a lot of 8th graders coming in next year, too.

It could be any reason why. It's always quality over the quantity, the band directors could be really bad, school admins could be shitty, it could be anything on why they aren't big. The band directors job is to promote the band and recruit more members, and if the band director doesn't then that's probably why. But no matter how big a band is, they all work just as hard as any other band to put on a show
@RainAtWindOq Жыл бұрын
@@lucyg8970 yeah, my old band director was super cool and fun as hell. But he also knew how to be serious and strict when need be, he was like our friend. But then he had to switch schools and a new director was placed, nobody liked her. Maybe because we were the first band she was teaching, or we were just not ready to move on. Needless to say a lot of people dropped after that. I stuck around to see and yeah she struggled a lot. But I’m sure she’ll get better with time, I ended up switching schools too.
