Welcome back! This time we get as far as a pretty much finished long block! The bottom end buttoned up, the freshly ported cylinder head goes on - and as a treat, there's a mighty fine burnout from above the polar circle!
This series shows how to renovate and build a Volvo B20 - or a similar engine of your choice!

Im se you have feet the disturutor then, i have see orther engines rebuld they use a tool on a drill fore test the oil presure before the start...i think about the oil came upp the valvelifts too, too be shore of lube from bottom to the top of the engine...😃
@ClassicCarRacingRestoration
@ClassicCarRacingRestoration 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Yup, I do that on Chevrolet engines for instance. Here, with the assembly lube, there is really no need to prime the oil system - a properly set up Volvo will start at an instance, and will get oil pressure in a matter of seconds. And like I said, the assembly lube takes care of the first vital seconds.

Many thanks for all your interesting and inspiring videos! I really like your custom built engine stand with full access to especially the rear part of the engine. It is certainly a very good idea. I have actually started to build a similar one to be used for B18 and B20 engines. Can you share some of your thoughts and experience about this construction? What thickness of the metal did you use? Also, I look forward to see episode 5!

Thank you! Well, actually, there wasn't much thought that went in to this.. I made it some 30 years ago (!) when I was 17-18 years old. It is cut out of a five millimeter thick plate, which bolts to the engine mount holes on the block. Then there is a three millimiter thick angle piece, which bolts to the holes for the starter motor. Thats it!

@@ClassicCarRacingRestoration Thank you for your answer. Very interesting! I thought the metal was thicker. I guess that there will be quite high tensions in the bolts, especially if the cylinder head is mounted. But as we can see in the film, you even torque down the flywheel bolts with the cylinder head already mounted. I will use bolts with steel quality 12.9 and I hope this will do good without any damaged threads in the engine block. On the other hand, the engine mount on each side must be designed to hold at least half of the engine weight (maybe more). On top of this we also have the starter motor bolts that carries much of the force that prevents the engine from turning to the right.

@ClassicCarRacingRestoration 2 жыл бұрын

Hey Ian! I myself have not - yet... It's a rather pricey combo, but of course very alluring! For my part, I have spent quite a lot of time trying to develop roller rockers for the B18-20, but as everything in life, its moving slowly...
