Something worth pointing out: EAC is hilariously easy to bypass(it was bypassed as soon as the beta dropped), and does nothing to stop crashers or rippers, which do not use methods that EAC can detect.

Other than preventing good/bad mods, EAC is also inconvenient to run. Performance drops, not being able to play another game that's also running EAC, forcefully closing tasks that they deem unknown, etc. I still feel like they should deal with these security flaws themselves instead of relying on an anti-cheat that will later be bypassed. Working with the community isn't a bad idea, wholesome modders will definitely cover your ass and find solutions for the devs. Literally free bug testers.

If they really really want to have EAC in the game, the least they could do is to support, approve, and curate mods by trustworthy modders (knah for example). They can do this by creating an official VRC mod launcher or opening up Steam Workshop so unwholesome mods will be blocked by EAC. This could've been easily done if the VRC team weren't so out of touch with what the community wants. Not to mention, they claimed they've been working with modders before so this is a great time for them to credit the modders and let their mods be officially supported natively on the game. All the backlash and riot won't happen if it wasn't for their lacklustercommunication with the community. Also I was excited to finish a VRC music video earlier this week until the latest update and I have to postpone the filming because I can't use Camera Animation mod anymore. Hopefully they will improve VRC camera soon too because content creators like me need it.

This solution is not a bad one; however, implementing an infrastructure that would include *client* mods working from the steam workshop may not have been something that would have had been completed by the timeline they needed to have EAC in place. Everyone speaks as if you can design something and implement it immediately. The difference from a mod team and the dev team are definitely priorities in what needs development. One thing that seems to be super necessary to one person may not even come to mind for another.

My issue is that, while it’s great that they’re adding all these QoL features to the game, it shouldn’t have taken such massive backlash for them to finally get off their asses and put them in. These are all features that people have been requesting for _years_ and those requests kept getting ignored, a lot of mods existed primarily because people got so sick of the devs not listening to community feedback. The fact that they had to reprioritize and put other projects on hold following the backlash tells us that they originally had _zero_ plans to replace these mods that many people rely to be able to play the game at all with their own alternatives, and that’s not very reassuring I must say. And all this for something that doesn’t even work, or solve the problems they claim it solves; EAC is notoriously easy to bypass, just look at any other game that uses it, hackers and other malicious actors are still a very prominent issue. Meanwhile, crashers and rippers don’t even use mods or anything detectable by EAC; EAC does literally nothing for VRChat but take away the mods that people previously used to protect themselves and their avatars from these malicious actors. Not to mention that EAC is known to be highly invasive, bad for privacy, and slows down performance in an already super poorly optimized game. Everything about EAC is just bad, there were so many better ways to do this and they choose the worst possible option.

The thing is this is more about VRchats future than anything else. It used to be an app mostly made by the community for the community and everyone loved that, it's slowly becoming cooperate and the devs are more trying to control and appeal to investors than their own users. Vrchat shares the same future as rec room now. Large and popular still but cooperate and less fun.

What's odd is that most crashers don't even use mods but simply just the models they get a hold of to crash others. Those QoL changes they pumped out so quickly for the beta has me curious, I wonder if they already had those features mostly implemented and were either eventually going to add them or lock some of them to VRC+ originally.

Some people think that VRChat stole them from the original mods since they are open source, it's pretty much as easy as Ctrl-C + Ctrl-V boom, the code's in the game! I think this is a plausible reason as they usually take super long to update and add features to the game, and now they suddenly have all of this working? Which just makes me wonder, why didn't they add this all earlier? It would have been easy enough to do. Or even more, why not work with the modders to actually implement these features into the game officially? As another commenter said, why doesn't VRChat make an official Steam Workshop page, or an official client for mods which *they can curate and watch over to ban harmful mods and keep the good ones in*. I think the VRC devs (at least some of them) were just pissed that their community was doing a better job than they are. And for some people, they'll never come back to VRChat because of the stupid way they handled things, and they were on their last straw with the devs, or at least, put it on the shelf a little to play Neos VR or Chillout VR

Do you think that anyone who is on a dev team even has time to look up from their projects to see any type of backlash and then spend their free time getting upset over something as petty as someone else creating a mod? Also, do you really think its as easy as copy + paste code into an already developed code base instead of writing your own solution? @@Brorato I never said that IS what happened, I said it's a plausible explanation for what could have happened. It makes even less sense why they wouldn't work with the modders to implement these already existing features in their game instead of giving them a big middle finger, or making an official mod loader. Yes, they have time. They have been looking through the feedback, as noted in the blog post, about the features people have been BEGGING for years on end. So you can't really tell me that they don't have the time. I'm pretty sure there are community managers or jobs that are specifically meant for looking through feedback. And it's literally their JOB to improve the game. And okay, maybe it isn't just copy and paste, but it's probably close, since they'd probably need to tweak the code. I'm just saying it's likely since VRChat has a track record of implementing features months, or even a year down the line. Mods had Phys Bones waaaay before (6 months) VRChat actually implemented them. All the features that VRChat are adding are literally just existing open source mods. They could just want to cut corners. Since they're announcing that they'll release it within a week, when they usually take months, don't you think that's at least a little suspicious? And you really don't know how petty the devs are. It's also a possible reason they just did this to give a middle finger to the modding scene. I wouldn't put that beside them, since they used the excuse that this was to stop malicious activities, but it barely stopped them at all. They've been hostile against modders for years without a single action, and now they finally decide to put their foot down, and shoot it? And I wasn't saying that was all they were doing, I'm just saying the recent roadmap has all the features, and they're coming out suspiciously fast. I'm not saying that it's just as easy as copying and pasting, since they do have to make UI, and alter some code, but like I said, it's a likely outcome. Or maybe they just got their shit together and actually started working. Who knows? It's all just speculation, you could be right, I could be wrong. With all the backlash, it's stupid how they still decided to roll out the update. Even some Quest users know that they fucked up. Even people from other gaming communities know how bad this update is. The backlash they got is enormous, yet they decide to protect their fragile ego, and remove the mods that made their game even PLAYABLE for some people. Some people can't play anymore due to the sheer lag that EAC and the unoptimized game that is VRChat. Chillout VR has more than double the frames, depending on different things, but it runs WAY better than VRChat does.

in one of the blog posts they mentioned many of the features currently added were from "feature jams" where the team would have game-jam like competitions as a way to think of features. Also some of these new additions in honesty are pretty simple or just an edit of something that already exists, here are a few examples: (note, this is with my very limited knowledge of their team's inner workings) particle limiter: this was already in the game but was hidden in the config files. so to use it you had to go find it and manually edit the values (confirmed, i actually messed with this before) personal mirror: this is mostly just taking the component used for world mirrors and attaching it to the player controller with a few edits moveable main menu: the UI menus can be physical things/objects in unity (mostly used vr games), which is how the menu worked before anyways. really all you need to do it create a way to move the object the menu is attached to. (extrapolation from seeing how the menus function ingame, and my own use of both unity and unreal engine) These ones aren't very much work and can be done quickly (be it simple, reusing something, or just making something hidden seen). This allows them to curb backlash as they work on the ones that take more time that NEED said time to work (like text to speech/speech to text would be useless if it didn't work right). So far their response has been decent, but its annoying it only came AFTER they rushed EAC even with all the backlash (i don't know if something forced their hand, but even so this came out of nowhere). also on the VRC+ point, yeah some of the features that were being worked on already would likely be VRC+. Ironically some mod makers actually acknowledged VRC+ features before any of this happened. One example is a popular "infinite favorites" mod one of my friend's uses that made it so to have said infinite favorites you NEED VRC+ when that got added to even function, otherwise the mod just wouldn't let you use that feature (i still don't know why favorites are capped with vrc+ normally though). Also never underestimate human laziness, if you can pay a few bucks *vs* needing to look for a mod and downloading it (with the small risk of a virus), many people take the lazy route. "Why risk a virus to watch a movie when its only 5-10 bucks to rent digitally once it hits streaming?" some people will take the risk because they want to save money and/or it's faster, others will take the cost because its just easier (though in vrchat's case currently even the paid features are outdone by many mods and waiting has proven to take MUCH longer than expected in the past)

I can’t play the game at all now because I play VRC in a virtual machine since I single boot arch Linux and I can’t run the software for my vr headset on Linux I put things for vr on a virtual machine. Personally I refuse to install things like EAC on a bare metal install because it’s literally spyware and I have no idea what it’s doing on my system and I can’t prove or disprove anything since it’s closed source by design. For people like me our only choice is to install windows on my pc (wich isn’t happening lol) or bypass the VM detection of EAC wich kills performance of the optimisations that the virtual machine community have been creating for years. EAC and virtual machine community are at a constant cat and mouse game for these sorts of things and it’s never ending. The last option is to find another game. For me this is the most realistic option for the reasons I discussed. It’s a shame because I’ve been on vrc since 2016 lol. I met by best friends there. *Rant over*

the other half is removing EAC all together as it is spyware that skims all your computers files and data in the background with is a breach of user privacy, many games that do have EAC still give the option to disable it with the mindset of if you disable it any damage or issues you face are a you problem, and that's fine, let alone what should have been done if they'd throw in EAC anyway would be to implement all the QOL and accessibility features first, but no tupper gave us a finger told us they as a company don't give a shit bout us, then cried wolf when we lashed back at their blatant disrespect to us right out the gate, we didn't set things on fire instantly we only exploded because of the devs attitudes towards the community with their inflated ego, and when they essentially exiled everyone before adding stuff to help people is when things got really really bad. there's so much that could have been done to a better effect than what they chose to do, now they'll have to lay in their own bed of thorns for it.

I used to play this game a few months ago, and I met some of my absolutely closest friends on it. Nothing has changed since then, if anything my computer and internet have improved, but post EAC update my game is EXTREMELY slow. Takes me several minutes to load into any world, and even longer for peoples avatars to load. It's infuriating.

Yep. EAC is performing checksums on everything and comparing it to server-side. It can be a fairly CPU intensive process on larger files. It will also check memory values as well so that is not being tampered with. It will absolutely slow things down.

With a client you **cannot** steal accounts, crash people, rip(steal) avatars. What you actually can do with clients is manipulate game values, for example you can **crash someone with a avatar** and your client will either block everyone you do not want to crash so the crash is targeted at a single person and wont harm anyone else. (btw if u do not have this option most people will just clap the whole lobby) and it will hide the avatar from the user so the user does not crash themself. (you can still hide yourself without client, its just not as convenient.) avatar stealing, account stealing ... all this things are not part of a client they are part of external things that EAC has no influence of. Basically EAC just ruined wholesome mods, malicious mods / clients will be back soon. And even without them its extremely easy to crash people and do everything else the community thinks of as malicious. And yes they do push these super "original features" very quickly because they literally steal them from mods that we already had ... Its a good thing for quest players but for most PC users its basically like someone steals your entire stuff and then giving you back half of your TV and expect you to be thankful somehow...

I used mods really for just 3 things, being able to teleport to my friends, player esp and join and leave notifications

teleport to friends is for the world creator to decide to implement as it breaks a lot of worlds either through optimizations making parts of the world gone or scripted events so you sequence break player esp is unwanted by the devs and especially in game worlds as its a bit of an unfair advantage not to mention the esp still showed where people you can't see via blocking are join and leave notifications still work through vrcx's steam overlay

The only mods I used was AMD FSR because the performance was hot garbage. This mod actually improved my performance and gave me a solid 90FPS. I also had an avatar search function just because it was very tedious hopping into different worlds to find the perfect avatar.

That’s not necessarily true, it’s not profitable to piss off your consumer base and actively make your product worse via these methods. My guess is their concerns about mod abuse and unethical behavior online pushed them to finally take the plunge, and forced them to be more active in the updates. It’s a decision that will make less money, at the very least for a decent while. Hopefully in the future they add enough improvements to make the tradeoff worthwhile.

the one thing that has hurt me when I've heard that this update was going down on vrchat, has to be the struggle of not being able to easily look for avatar by just using the search bar in the avatar menu, and just playing it while lookin at my avatar list pains me to see that the search option is greyed out from my ability. Now I'm stuck hoping to come across someone who is wearing the avatar that I've been lookin for days on end for or going to worlds that might just so happen to have it there even if the name or thumbnail doesn't look like it does. What makes it worst has to be the time consuming it is to do so, seeing that I have to spend near hours just so I can find that single avatar I've seen on videos from Vrchat gameplays.

They never fix technical problems on the Meta Quest 2 Version that's continually crashing due to low memory, which is why I am leaving. Everything takes up too much data while loading and initializing worlds that this social app gets unstable. I would freeze up.

VRChat's EAC is so easy to bypass. When VRChat's team added it they got backlash and as soon as that backlash about needing mods happened, they finally add those accessibility features we have asked for years now, but not all of them (the mods had these features already). People have had enough of VRChat for a number of reasons, like VRChat Plus, not having enough protection for minors, borderline s*xual avatars, s*xual avatars and many other reasons. No one should be harassing or making fun of someone though for not supporting VRChat anymore, and they have every right not to and move onto other games like ChilloutVR or NeosVR which are good platforms in their own way.

I'm not very affected by the exclusion of mods. The game was mostly playable for me, personally. I have no opinion on people using mods though I admit some look pretty awesome, but what would definitely affect me is that there are people suspecting that VRChat has implemented this "anti-cheat" in order to prepare their platform for *monetization or possibly even selling out to big tech companies who want to turn a profit from a game like this.* If anything, that could mean the complete loss of _any_ creative freedom, not just mod use. If that were to happen, things like world and avatar creation could become restricted, put behind paywalls, who knows...who _wants_ to know?

For me I lost the abilities to play with Virtual Desktop. VD used Spacewarp which help lighten the load of some vr world and let me use the Oculus version of the game which is much more stable. So the fact that it locked that out made me quit for months.

it would be an issue on your end most of the time it is caused by stuff on your pc like light controls try deleting the cache folder for vrchat in local low and your vrchat folder itself in your steam apps common folder before reinstalling vrchat

The main problem is that most of the exploits and issues are backend issues, or because the client is hot garbage. EAC is unnecessarily adding performance overhead either because they are too incompetent to fix those issues, or too lazy, and I don't know which one's worse.

(I know this is a copy paste from another video I posted on, but basically sums up why EAC is useless) The problem with EAC(Easy Anti-Cheat) is basically a programmers shitty shortcut to combat cheaters and the like. Instead of hiring administrators to monitor the game, they use this to cut costs. EAC scans your system for the devices it uses on your computer, and if it doesn't recognize...let's say, a very old graphic's card or a completely brand new one, it BSODs your computer and, in some cases, making it unable to run unless you do a system restore, or worst case scenario, factory reset. It is impossible to troubleshoot this with both the EAC creator and the game dev team that uses it. It results in one of the following: Game Dev Team: 1. Contact EAC (which will be explained below) 2. Reinstall the game client 3. Scan for viruses 4. Play using another device. (WOW.) 5. We will forward this to our team (usually on the bottom of the list since you're the unlucky son of a bitch going through that trouble) EAC Dev Team: 1. Very difficult to contact. The site sends you to a series of loopholes to troubleshoot. 2. Once contacting, they repeat the same process as above. 3. Very huge delay in response. The EAC varies for each game, meaning you can play fine on one game but crash on another game. This becomes A's job is B's job or B's job is A's job etc. So yeah, constant back and forth with no results whatsoever. So does EAC prevent cheaters and the like? Well yes and no. The changes they implement stop things such as cheaters and bots for a while, but the bots and cheaters will always find a way around it. There is even a way to play through the games while being able to disable EAC, which requires modifying the "hosts.file" on your computer. Since it will be unable to connect to the server to scan your computer, the game assumes that it is done scanning or the process is done, and carries onto your game experience. ...and because of that loophole, EAC is basically useless and is mostly a hindrance rather than an improvement.

A lot of people who left VRChat for ChilloutVR decided to try to kill ChilloutVR by DDoSing it, and mass crashing instances because they were more upset that they had a hard time getting past EAC to attack VRChat. VRC is working on a lot of features that were originally in wholesome mods. That audio bug is the result of ChilloutVR being overloaded, and crashed to hell and back. To those attacking ChilloutVR... FUCKING STOP ATTACKING CHILLOUT! Just because it's easy to attack the platform that doesn't have an anti-cheat, doesn't mean you should. When I got attacked on VRChat, ChilloutVR gave me a home. Neos has crash prevention which... works most of the time... (Crash prevention is really nice, please start adding it to more games. K thx. :3)

Hell, Newgrounds had to temporarily go down because people were excited to play the new update for Friday Night Funkin'. Even though most of the community says this is the worst update, their are way worse updates out there. Roblox is a clusterf*** of a site, other big games can make mistakes, even minecraft can make oopsie whoopsies (in game reporting isn't that bad unless used maliciously). But this update is a sign the VRChat does care about its community... unlike some games (roblox)... but overall I feel like vrchat can fix this, and add accessibility features to the game... so I'm on vrchats side, and your neutrality helped me stay closer to the middle, just like how I like it... Furtrap also helped :)

I'm quite disappointed, that you didn't cover the way the devs worded their release of the modban, and the disrespectful way in which they responded to the community feedback. When I asked if they expected such a vigorous response, they said it was what they expected and stuck a :-) at the end of the sentence. Implying, that the anger and disappointment was expected, and showing that they were happy about it. They also blatantly lied, when they claim the update was made in response to community requests, request to stop crashers, and increase safety. If this was the truth, and this was done at the behest of the community, the community informing them that this is not what they wanted, would have resulted in them stopping the update. Not only did they refuse to halt the update, but they refuse to acknowledge the fact that the community did not want this feature. They contradicted the idea that it was community driven, by simply following ahead and forcing this update through. In doing so, they added insult to injury, by making it clear that their original given reason, to address community feedback, was not true. As again, if they're real reason for this update was to address community feedback, they would have listened to the feedback, and not released the update. Vrchat may be much better now than it was months ago, unfortunately, the most important thing we can learn from this event.. isn't that the devs will improve the game when given feedback, but they why, and will actively ignore feedback, when it goes against whatever they want to do. This means, that we have no say whatsoever over this game, that the things we like and even love in this game, could be removed in an instant, and no amount of complaining will bring them back.

I'm such a vanilla player haha but this update was wild I remember I went into a black cat and was chillin with friends when a horde of people came one with boycott vrchat pic meme avis and they were like join us and I was like wait so your boycotting because of the update and the dude with full excitement was like YEA! and then I was like ok so with these avis this helps right? And he was like YEA! And I was laughing a bit at this point and was so your boycotting the game by joining the game with an avi to give a higher player count and the dude crashed me 😭🤣 again idk much about this still I'm just a questy but this situation was just to funny to me

Yes, enforcing it with a Kernel level anticheat that scans through all of your computer's files. Do I really have to have my entire PC scanned just to play and laugh through a horror map on VRChat with my brother in a friends-only instance? Adding EAC was _entirely_ unfounded; it was quite possibly the worst way they could have enforced this rule. At the very least they should have had an option where you can turn off EAC and only have access to private or friends only instances, but no. Also, as I'm sure you've heard as well, EAC apparently did little to nothing for actually preventing what they said they wanted to prevent. I've heard that it's an incredibly easy anti-cheat to bypass, and on top of that most of the game crashers and avatar rippers aren't even affected by the anti-cheat. The addition of EAC was an entirely bad idea, and if they wanted to make sure people didn't use modifications, they should have gone down the route of making said modifications obsolete by adding all of those features, not trying to get EAC as a ban-hammer and removing them. I saw they're adding QoL elements in the game now, but they should have just done only that instead of adding EAC. I've also heard these mods had anti-crashing measure; why couldn't VRC just have added those instead of adding a Kernel level anti-cheat?
