Greetings from the Czech Republic. I have some interesting things for you: 1) Vz.61 is an abbreviation, the whole word "vzor 61" = "pattern 61", that means that in 1961 the weapon was introduced to the armed forces. This marking method was used for various Czech weapons, but also for civilian equipment and machinery from 1945 until 1989. 2) This weapon was originally intended for tankers, motorcyclists, and other military specialties who needed a small weapon because the vz.58 automatic rifle (pattern - see above 😀 ), popularly called "kosa" ("scythe"), would be too much for them. But soon the police and secret services from all over the Warsaw Pact and other countries took a liking to her. That's why it appears in so many spy movies 😀 3) Currently, this weapon is still used by armed forces in more than twenty countries. 4) It is often claimed in the literature and on the Internet that this weapon was the inspiration for the Uzi submachine gun. But that is not true. The Uzi submachine gun is structurally based on another Czech weapon - the ZK476 submachine gun.

Few fun facts: The rate reducer really makes it way slower and more reliable too. There was also a shoulder holster for this boy. The 32 ACP was not picked up for size sake as it was later introduced in 380 and 9Mak while keeping the original size. The reason for that was that 32 ACP was used by the Czechoslovak police since 1920s and it only made sense to use the same cartridge. 9mm Luger version existed too known as Vz 68 but was way bigger.

I think the idea was for this weapon to allow a short burst of suppressing fire to force enemies with bigger guns to hide, while your buddies can get back into the tank or escape the scene. Alternatively, it allowed various bodyguards and stuff to pack quite a significant punch into their pockets to surprise the attackers, who may be armed only with pistols. In both scenarios, this is a gun for surprising your enemies in asymetric scenarios.

Aksu weren't classified as SMG technically, but they were used in same role in army. Also they were (probably still are) widely used by police forces. During 90s when crime rates were skyrocketed police patrols with AKSU in their hand were very common sights in urban areas and on the road block posts.

It would've been cool if you mentioned that it was originally designed as a PDW for tankers and the like, as well as for police, much like the AKs-74U, and was only adopted for sneaky KGB stuff later down the line. And since you mentioned the telescoped bolt, it'd be cool if you did a video on the Uzi, since it's pretty much the first successful firearm to use that system.
@Artanis992 жыл бұрын
A bit innacurate Both Scorpion and UZI were inspired by Vz 48 and telescoping bolt was already a concept in handguns (where the bolt is integrated to a slide.
@DesertAvenger2 жыл бұрын
@@Artanis99 that's why I said first "successful firearm" i never implied it was the first one to use it ever, only that it was the first to use it and be successful. And pistols are a different thing altogether, their system can't be considered a telescoped bolt at all.

The Vz61 was also issued to tank and armoured vehicle crews as a personal defence weapon. The Russian-built tanks and APCs operated by the Czechoslovakian Army were fairly cramped affairs, so it wasn't feasible to accommodate standard-sized weapons in the crew spaces. When I was serving as a reservist in a Canadian Army armoured reconnaissance squadron a long time ago, a submachine gun was our primary issue weapon, again for the same reasons - compact size and limited space inside the vehicle.
@amadeusagripino6862 Жыл бұрын
Which submachine gun you were issued? MP5?
@stevestruthers6180 Жыл бұрын
@amadeusagripino6862 We used a Canadian-made version of the British Sterling L2A3 submachine gun. The Canadian version had a different front sight and bayonet lug arrangement (but it could still accommodate FN bayonets), and the metal parts, save for the magazine, had a Parkerized finish. More details on the Sterling here: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sterling_submachine_gun

Small-time firearms engineer here. I noticed your receiver doesn't have the rate reducer holes drilled for the pieces that actually grab the bolt. I know this is because the receiver was originally semi - those versions always come with no rate reducer holes, sear slot, or stock slot. I am just wondering if the guys in the shop made your rate reducer work some other way or if it simply works without the system attached. Always love seeing what they cook up. Either way, great to see it in action!

This means people like myself don’t have the knowledge about them. Brandon's left hand in his pocket (and right hand loose) for the intro Skorpion reveal is actually something the secret service are trained to do to conceal similar weapons. Especially when walking the outline of the gun can be seen and as Brandon demonstrated the jacket moving can get in the way of deploying the gun. Yet despite knowing that as one of the first things to look for with larger concealed guns it still managed to fool me. Also when unarmed agents often tend to walk like that out of habit so it can be a useful giveaway in any situation. Though Brandon's first attempt having the left hand loose unfortunately suggests he likely isn't James Bond. I'm very disappointed.
