This is a short film I did in 2017. I decided to remaster it, and rerelease it again. As it is about wage slavery, I felt it is a perfect video about the 9-5 rat race. I think it captures the feeling of being trapped in a job forever.

I would have enjoyed more intense close ups, a inner monologue of the characters daily thoughts that goes full circle by the end, shots to show the claustrophobic nature of over crowding in workspaces/food stops/transportation and a long labored scene of the main character not doing work but desperately trying to look busy to survive without more pointless work or getting fired for being lazy. This is a nice art short but a series that follows the repetitive aspects of this life could be eye opening. Throwing in a few scenes of real, calm, inner monologue free, “freedom” might be nice too. Because even if 8hours need to be dedicated to sleep, 8 to work, 2 hours for transportation and prep for work we do have a whole 6 hours to enjoy life and that should be shown too lol

I feel deeply sorry for this character who seems helplessly stuck in a system he does not understand and has no idea how he got there or how to get out. Perhaps it was a lack of insight and clarity into what is meaningful in life that led him to this point in time, when he seems to be doing things he does not like and has no joy in doing. The only thing that seems to help connect him to something resembling life is the recording of the birds in the forest going on repeat. He knows he is lost and that something major is out of place with the world he finds himself in, but without the ability to infuse meaning into the seemingly chaotic world around him, it seems his life is lost, and he is doomed to walk the empty halls of this broken world devoid of life, forever. Very compelling and thought provoking short film. Well done. 👍

Before I went back to school and finished my degree in Interior Design I felt like this....that was back when I was working in the mortgage banking industry where I was in a cubicle with, literally hundreds of other drones. I stayed there as long as I did because the pay was good, but it was not a healthy environment by any stretch of the imagination. One time I asked if we could turn our desks to face the large windows as the view out them was very beautiful (hills and oak trees) but they refused. They were all about power and control, not about nourishing a happy worker.
@TomScryleus
@TomScryleus 27 күн бұрын
did they give a reason when they refused the view?
@deerhaven3350
@deerhaven3350 27 күн бұрын
@@TomScryleus Yes, basically they felt we'd be spending too much time looking out the windows and not working, which was ridiculous because we were in a customer service call center taking calls so when you'd end one call your phone would immediately route the next call in the "Q" to your headset; your phone didn't even ring so you didn't even have the option to not answer it.

I am not a fan of wage slavery.. to say the least. Really like Tom's videos. I am not in corporate world for more than 5 years by now. Hated the office job from the bottom of my heart. Especially, the control and hypocrisy components of it. At the same time, I understand, that for some people the structure and rigidity is necessary and beneficial. This short film only shows the negative and burden of work. Yet sometimes wage slavery can be entertaining and even intellectually challenging. So it's not always that bad. Certain tasks may be even interesting. I don't know.. I call it: ".. life" I'll watch the film again. Perhaps, I will see it differently.

Excellent! It has a very foreboding, edgy feel to it. I love how the characters are all cookie-cutter clones, just cogs in a machine. The constant machine hum in the background is somehow terrifying ... like a sensory deprivation torture meant to break the human spirit.I was extremely lucky to have had jobs that I loved most of my working life, even a couple of very well paid ones. But my last job (before escaping wage slavery at the age of 55) was one that I detested. It was one where I sat quietly at my desk in a cubicle all day long doing mindless, repetitive work for less than a living wage (at least not enough to support a wife and one child). You are very talented, and worth much more than whatever your employers were paying you.
