What's really sad is that this video wasn't far off from reality. I've had students curse me out. The parents claimed that their child was exercising his right to free speech. I've seen students commit acts of vandalism only to be told that I must be mistaken because their child would never do anything like that. I was once physically assaulted by a student. The parents claimed that I must have provoked their child. In all of these cases, I received no support from my building administration.

I wouldn't matter. They would just say they don't interpret, or see it that way. They will always frame everything in a way where they win and she loses. Once you start this game, and you can make things mean what you want, then communication breaks down, and there's no more agreement on what anything means, so you have chaos. Everything becomes "democratic" in the worst possible way. You start voting on what words mean, but you can vote again tomorrow after you made a promise today, so you don't have to keep it. Nothing means anything anymore, and it begins to boil down to brute strength: whoever has the most physical clout wins every debate.

However, if you are talking about all these so-called "experts" predicting economic meltdown in the event of a vote for Brexit back in 2016 who were making these wild predictions based on possible business and psychological responses to the different legislative environment as if they were immutable laws, well come on, surely you must understand why we are mistrusting the "expert class"? If one is an "expert", one should be careful to clarify the limits of what one is able to accurately predict with substantially more accuracy than a layman, even with expertise in the subject. If you can't predict outcomes any more accurately than a layman, don't go round saying, "I'm an expert, dontchya know?!" to back up predictions that are just wild speculation.

This happened to me. Standing in a 7th grade classroom cutting out construction paper letters for a bulletin board, I told student a student that I was ready to call his parents because he constantly interrupted me. I had scissors in my hand when I said this. The next morning, the principal came to my room and asked if I threatened a student with scissors. My shock was immense. I couldn't even remember cutting out the letters because I was so shocked. That afternoon the student's father and mother were ushered into my room by the assistant principal who sat there for a full 2 hours while the man threatened my job, called me vulgar names, I can't even remember. Over and over he screamed at me. I was visibly pregnant. Today, I would stand up, tell the principal to stop it, and if it didn't, I'd quit. It was horrible. I sobbed for hours. My husband made me go back to school the next day telling me if I didn't, he would win. I stayed for the insurance. After my child was born and maternity leave was up, I called them up and quit. Never went back into a classroom. And just so you know, on my evaluation for that year, the assistant principal said I was exemplary and hoped that I would never stop teaching.

This is a well written, directed, and acted short satire on what is happening in the US today, and yet we can see here that much of the country has no understanding of satire, or comedic drama. They are calling the film "woke" when it is the opposite of woke, which BTW, doesn't even exist. Woke to many is just a reaction to anything they don't agree with, or even understand. It's a sad commentary on the fall of education regarding Humanities, Science, and yes, Mathematics - truth in society, imagination, and yes, numbers. To followers of anti-liberalism, advancement in technology is a creature of the left, and is therefore, Satanism, except, they don't realize that Satan is what these perpetual critics of liberalism are advocating, and worshipping.

As a maths teacher, I enjoy watching this again and again. What rings true for me here, is the attitude of the parents. In the old days, parents respected the teachers. These days, they try to cause as much trouble for an 'errant'(?) teacher as they can... and they believe every little porkie pie their little 'Danny', 'Franny' , 'Bonnie' and 'Donny' make. Male or female, both parents are right bitches here.... and the princiapal is an eggwump!

I think we're all used to adults, and even other teachers saying, "I don't like math." I once asked 8th graders to line up and answer a multiplication question to go to lunch. When I got to 9 x 6 they were completely flummoxed. An assistant principal demanded to know why I was 'trying,' to teach math in a science class. Of course I explained it using state standards. I also pointed out that single digit multiplication is a 3rd grade standard.

That's America. That is the result of the "winnner takes all" system and the resulting two-party political system. I always find it quite weird that people can call that demography, because, in the end, you only have the political choice out of two extremes. For example: suppose you're a real Christian and see Jesus as inspiration, and want to live like Jesus. Then you would be against abortion, and would be against weapons. That combination is just not available in America, hence there is nothing which you can vote. I think the coalition model that many European countries have is much more democratic.
