I think steam tends to get the most sales, while providing the most value adds, like unofficial linux support, support for different gamepads(including remapping), steam networking to make multiplayer easier, etc. I don't know if steam is taking too big a piece of the pie, but they definitely earned the place in the market to take a bit more than the others. I have purchased a game twice just because it came out a second time on steam.

Agreed, I purchased a game and the DLC twice just to get it on steam. The matchmaking is generally better, the downloads are faster. If the game supports the workshop it's even better.

If it's won, which part of that would allow someone to go against the others you listed? "Oh, they take money from us for selling our games/apps on their platform" ? Dont forget, they MAY say it's about predatory actions by valve all the time, but all the talking points are about the percentage cut and policies against underselling steam on other platforms. Nothing in this class action is for consumers, only for developers and other platforms.

Case B: Steam on the other hand does not force anyone to use it and it does not come preinstalled on windows. I put an A380 into a SFF PC and was quite surprised by its performance. For $200 AU it punched up close to the rtx 3050 performance which retailed for $300 in some games (a couple of games it ran worse, matching a GTX 1650). I'd really like to see how these B series work for productivity too! NVIDIA cuda seems to win, but I'm open to new ideas

I think the comparison between B580 and A580 is natural given the nomenclature. But Intel has priced the B580 identically to an A750. I don't care what they call the B580 chip, if it outperforms an A750 for the same money then it's a step in the right direction, and if not then it's a dud. I guess time will tell.

If the B580 outperforms the A770 AND has 12 gigs of ram, Then that's still a win for gamers, in NVIDIA terms that would be buying a 4060 that has better performance then their previous flagship card the 3090ti. That's what intel is offering, The B580 WILL be better then the last gen best intel card. They say its faster then the A770, The new low end card is an upgrade to the last gen high end card, it costs less then the last gen high end card and the naming scheme isnt convoluted. This is how graphics cards should be, no overlaps in performance. I'm rooting for intel, lets get that competition. Now we just need to hope that they live up to those expectations.

B580 is looking like a card with an MSRP of $250, offering somewhere between 4060 and 4060 Ti performance with 50% more VRAM. Average the MSRP of the 4060 and 4060 TI, you get $350. That's the pricepoint Intel is competing with. If Intel can ship a card that hits whatever a $350 40-series card would have been at $100 less while offering 50% more VRAM, it's going to sell like hotcakes. It's 30% less for the same performance and more VRAM. Obviously the B580 is probably aiming to compete with the 5060, but that is still expected to be a GB107 8GB card with perhaps a 20% gen-on-gen performance uplift. That's basically what the theoretical $350 40-series card is, except the 5060 probably ships at $300 at the end of Q1 2025. So at first Intel will be punching down against the 4060 and 4060 Ti and will offer massively better value with a larger VRAM buffer and a better price, while XeSS is pretty much a 1-for-1 equivalent of DLSS, unlike FSR. Intel will definitely sell cards before the 5060 ships at least. Whether it remains competitive against the 5060 is another thing entirely, but I don't think it's impossible unless Nvidia actualyl ships a GB-106 5060 instead of a GB-107.

If Intel could make a really good $250 GPU the speed of an RTX 4060 Ti with 16GB of VRAM that would be great. A 50% Uplift in Rasterization after all of the drivers are smoothed out. A B750 basically. I was really hoping Intel could have pulled off the $300 B770 at the speed of a 4070 SUPER but that looks like it wont ever happen. Next Gen $150-250 GPUs look like they'll be Battlemage/Intel dominated, Next Gen $300-600 GPUs look like they'll be RDNA 4/AMD Dominated, and anything above the 8800 XT new or the 7900 XTX used is going to be an Nvidia hellscape. $700 RTX 5070 12GB, $900 RTX 5070 Ti 16GB, $1400 5080 and a $1800 5090

There’s no way a lot of people feel that steam takes too much money from devs. 30% is fairly good for all the value and incentive they offer. If you look at all the dead/dying companies out there like origin, Ubisoft, etc. they’re dead because of their terrible innovation, convenience and features. I do wish that steam takes a progressive marginal commissions. It would definitely make smaller/startups ramp up their developments better in the long run making them incentivize investing to themselves.

I don't really think AMD struggles to compete with Nvidia because of drivers. I think it has more to do with the feature gap. People want DLSS and RT (even if the card is too weak to make good use of RT they still want that option), AMD doesn't offer that. Intel has XeSS which is genuinely good, which places them in a better spot than AMD to compete with Nvidia if the initial reviews of the B580 come out positive. Alchemist was a total disaster, but I don't think there is any reason to suspect that Battlemage will be if the performance is there and the drivers are decent. Yes, Intel will have to undercut Nvidia to sell equal cards, but with the disgusting margins in the GPU market currently, it should absolutely be possible for Intel to do so and still sell cards at a profit.

AMD doesn't sell because AMD doesn't have DLSS, which many budget-conscious buyers want in order to stretch the lifespan of their GPU. Obviously the lackluster RT performance probably plays a part as well, even if cards like the 4060 or 4060Ti can't really use RT either (but at least better).

These FTC rules are meaningless when it comes to scammers since they are criminals.. they don't obey rules, let alone laws by definition. Intel is new to competing in the GPU market, we should be happy that their first card is better then the 980ti. they havent had the years of experience that the other companies have and they probably have to spend a metric ton of cash just to bring themselves up to a point where their cards are barely modern At the speed theyre growing performance at, give them 2-3 more generations and they might reach a point where they can compete with AMD high end cards but for now dont set expectations too high. There are shipping manifests that have leaked for cards with the BMG-G31 die. That is a die that allegedly has 32 Xe2 cores instead of the 20 that the BMG-G21 (B580) has. If the B580 hits 4060Ti performance, the BMG-G31 should hit 4070 super to 4070Ti performance. The B770 will likely end up shipping sometime in Q1 or Q2 2025 though, while the B580 (allegedly) comes out December 13th.

There have been leaked shipping manifests dated to November for graphics cards with the 256 bit BMG-G31 die that the B770 is supposed to have. It's definitely coming, but when is more unclear. The 192 bit BMG-G21 (B580) shipping manifests started leaking out in September, so using the B580 shipping manifests as reference I'd expect the B770 to come out around mid-late Q1 2025.

The moment someone offers me a better platform to Steam, I'll gladly move. The likelihood is that to offer better, it will cost more which will be charged higher. A spotify style chargeable service could be viable where the additional features would be unlocked if the user pays, unlocking the additional perks which affects their library and the communities they access.

until end of this 2024, intel Arc is still disappointing. example A380 6gb, one of the latest low entry GPU from intel.👽 but not better than GTX1650 4gb old GPU from Nvidia ~ 🤣🤣 even though A380 has a TDP of only 40 watts(more efficient than GTX1650 with its TDP of 75 watt)
