This just popped up in my recommendations because I'd been watching a lot of vids about shooting on film / making digital look like film, and I'm so glad it did because this might be the most entertaining short film I've ever seen.

I am also experimenting with making digital look "vintage" I am slowly coming to the conclusion that giving your digital video a "feel" is more important than trying to introduce fake noise and mis-aligned frame scans.

"Once in a great while, his holiness John Paul II dials the wrong number. Mary Bridges... is waiting" "Santa clause is coming... Patrick is waiting" with a shotgun, that one was good haha! This is probably one of the best if not the best short film i've seen. If this isn't too much to ask, what mic did you use or is it a mike that comes with the camera? Also what's the mic used for the narrator? Thank you so much!
@kenwebbsite7 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the film! In answer to your tech questions: This was made “back in the day.” In the early 90s. So long ago I really don't remember the details to your question. This was a time when sound was recorded on a “Nagra”- on reel to reel 1/4” audio magnetic tape- using “crystal sync” to lock between film camera and audio device speed. I believe we used a Sennheiser shotgun boom mic. The VO was recorded in a professional radio studio with some bad-ass, multi-thousand dollar mic. But an interesting detail is that it was recorded to a VHS tape that just keep rolling as we did the takes and I gave the vo artist (Larry Kenny) direction. I then transferred that VHS audio to audio “Mag” which I edited on a flatbed Steinbeck. Like I said this was "old school film making." It's a whole new world today.

Thank You so much! I love the aesthetic vintage feeling of it.
