So a couple notes: 1. Lauren Cohan confirmed in press that this show takes place 5-6 years after TWD which concluded chronologically in 2023. This means that it is roughly 18-19 years into the apocalypse (2028-2029), so Hershel is 15-16 years old. 2. The Croat is not someone that we’ve seen before, although considering how massive the Savior group was back in the day and the fact that we don’t know when the Croat split from them, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Considering the fact that every major Savior is either dead or redeemed at this point, it’s more important to get a bigger actor who could successfully embody the role, rather than elevate some minor or background character when they might not be able to fill the main-antagonist role well. It’s also possible that we might seen recreations of that time with the Croat, although if they go overboard it might be a bit much. 3. As far as the Negan-Maggie relationship, the fact that it is so tense is probably a combination of Maggie being in overdrive to get Hershel back (as Negan himself notes) and the fact that they haven’t seen each other in 6-7 years at this point, so there’s definitely a possibility that neither of them know what the other has been doing or whether old habits have re-emerged. 4. While the survivors have covered themselves in guts before, I imagine a significant difference that explains their extreme reaction to the bugs is the fact that the bugs are moving. You can get used to a smell, but having something crawling all over you is pretty much always going to garner a reaction lol. 5. Fun fact for Fear fans, the actress playing the bar owner that Perlie fed to the walkers is Michelle Hurd, who is irl married to Garrett Dillahunt, the actor who played John Dorie Jr.

I've seen in official press from AMC that the show is a 2 year time jump, but that makes no sense given how old Hershel is here. Logan Kim is 16 years old and we ended TWD with Kien Michael Spiller being 8-10 years old. I'm taking Lauren's word for it. JDM also said it was 4 to 5 years after TWD proper ended. Classic TWD being vague with their timelines. Cool fact about Michelle Hurd -- thanks for sharing!

That's gonna haunt her for the REST of her life. There is no "getting over" the image of the love of your life being brutalized like that - right in front of you (while pregnant with your child). You have no choice but to live with that memory. People who don't understand that are have to be young and dumb, lack empathy, or are trolls. Sure, she may tolerate his existence, but he will only ever be a means to an end for her goals. He's a "resource" for her (the same line of logic he used to have when he "had it all"). He isn't her friend, she's not gonna hit him up to break bread and wine, he's a tool to her. Maggie will ALWAYS hate Negan and what he did, and she has every right to.

Looks like from the recent episode you was wrong, Negan found the croat and recruited him into the saviors and negan slowly started to notice over time that the croat was crazy so he tried to shoot him but missed and hit his ear so he escaped from negan and wants revenge now.

The intro sequence to this show goes hard and I love it Also fantastic to see Maggie and Negan again, made sense that she’s still tense with him considering she stated she can’t forgive him despite all the good he’s done and plus taking into account how her son was taken and the Croat did the whistle which clearly triggered all these memories back and then seeing him again didn’t help so her mental state clearly isn’t the best which is why I think it’s even more aggressive compared to how we left off. I did think it’s a bit ridiculous that people expect her to just forgive him straight up cuz even though he’s done a lot of good, it’s not something she can just simply get over even after all these years But it will be cool to see how everything progresses, I feel like Negan will feel the real weight of his past actions and the way he used to operate considering the Croat was a saviour

I think a big reason why they wrote it as Maggie still struggling with forgiving him is because they were looking to bring both new viewers and try to get back some of the viewers that TWD lost and it seemed to me like they were really trying to get the point across that Negan used to be a bad guy and that Maggie is still struggling with what he did. Also, I feel like Herschel being taken has just stirred up so much anger in her that she can’t even attempt to be cordial.

For me, this makes sense. It has been years since they saw each other. Maggie had her son kidnapped by a Savior, which brought back old woulds and created a few new ones. Negan might have lost his wife (again) and child. If this was set just right after the last episode, I would agree it wouldn't make sense, but this isn't the case

GREAT premiere. Also, Negan's wife Annie and their kid must've been killed off at some point, probably because of the Marshalls. Negan most likely went after them, killing a few of them or as many as he could, which is why the Marshalls want him so badly. Also as far as the motive why this guy took Hershell and how he would know about Maggie and Negans connection is maybe because Croat was in the crowd of all the saviors standing around and saw the lineup when glen got killed. Then later Croat did something to piss off Negan and Negan gave Croat the iron and prob kicked him out of the savior group. Now Croat is getting his revenge on Negan. We'll see 🤷‍♀️

Logan Kim who plays Hershel Greene-Rhee is 16 years old in real life for what it is worth. On TWD the series ended on day 4,700 ( 12 yrs, 10 months, 20 days ) of the Zombie Apocalypse. The final flashforward scenes take place on day 5,065 ( 13 yrs, 10 months, 20 days ) of the Zombie Apocalypse. Kien Michael Spiller who played Hershel Rhee in SE10 & SE11 of TWD turned 12 in January so he was 10/11 years of age well on TWD. Hershel was 10 yrs of age in the series final episode "Rest in Peace". I'm guess there has been a time jump of 5 possibly 6 years between the ending of TWD and the beginning of TWD: DC.

I actually really appreciate the fact that the writers seem to have given Negan a bit of his balls back. Sure, the realistic thing for him to do might have been to just continue to curl up in a ball whenever Maggie growls at him - but that dynamic was done to death 10 times over on the main show.. having him be a little less sympathetic towards her actually adds a little spice to that whole dynamic. With that said.. im sure this'll get really really ugly by the finale.

I think it's actually more realistic this way, because even with his actions, there are so many times someone can patiently wait for others to give them shit without responding. By the time this show started it's been years of Negan redeeming himself and being shit on, so it makes sense for him to be a bit more spiteful, even when Maggie is right and he's in the wrong.

@@jake8269 Word. It's much more realistic this way.. theres also the ever-present question of just how deep this whole "remorse" thing goes with Negan. And this is coming from someone that considers Negan to be the single most interesting and dynamic character that this franchise has. I think theres a natural boundary as to how far they can go with it.. especially considering the general psychology that Negan has displayed over the years - even during the more "intimate" moments between him and Maggie in S11 - the whole "Now I know how you must have felt.." thing.. theres a hint there: "Now I know.." .. "I" being the important part - I still dont think Negan gives a shit about killing Glenn back in the day.. or anyone else for that matter really - he might understand and respect that his actions have had adverse effects on other people.. but theres quite a ways from that realization to actually feeling truly guilty about it.. and I dont think Negan does. I think he's incapable of it. It's sort of the great tragedy of Maggie continuing to orbit around Negan in a way.. theres a sense of her searching for something in him.. but it's not going to come - no matter how long she keeps digging. Atleast not sincerely.

To me, going from the season 11 finale to this wasn't even that much of a jump, because Maggie and Negan had their talk in a moment of vulnerability and of relief, when things had finally settled down for the first time in a long time. What almost happened to Annie was fresh in his mind and that allowed him to understand and apologize to Maggie, but now? Annie isn't there and Negan's behaviour switches on and off depending on how he feels. He's very self-centered in how he thinks.

Željko Ivanek is playing the Croat. He played the character Russell Jackson in Madam Secretary from 2014-2019 when the show ended in case you ever watched that. He's a VERY good actor and has done a lot of Theater, a lot of TV and a lot of film. You've probably seen him in something along the way.

They did leave on respected mutual terms and Negan agreed to leave at the end of TWD to make it easier.on everyone. I was irritated too when Maggie still seemed so pissed. I got to talking to my husband though and he brought up a good point. He said even tho they parted in a respectful way for Maggie seeing Negan again brings it all back. She'll always have a hard time seeing Negan again and she'll make sure he never forgets. Good to see y'all doing these! I've had a rough summer with the kids home and hubby working overnights. I saw that it's been reported that they're getting a season 2 for what it's worth & I just can't see Maggie killing him at this point as she's had numerous chances when he had done less for her and it would be silly imo to have him save Herschel for a second time only to have Herschel kill him. A real twist would be for Herschel to save Negan to show that he's not gonna live in vengeance harkening back to mercy over wrath I don't see why Negan can't get a family at then end of it all;with Annie and his child or to raise Ginny as his own.

Season 2 has already essentially been confirmed by the cast, and Lauren Cohan (Maggie) says she wants to see the show run at least four or five seasons... so don't think the story is ready to wrap anytime soon! I for one am hyped and as long as the content is good or at least interesting will never get tired of new seasons and shows. Also, we don't know specifics on timeline yet, but Lauren Cohan said it's been about five or six years since the end of TWD.. I disagree that Maggie and Negan's relationship feels drastically different than how it ended in TWD. They're butting heads and reluctantly working together like they did throughout Season 11. Maggie never, ever said she was going to "try" to forgive Negan or move on/put it to rest. She explicitly said the opposite, that she knew then she'll never ever be able to do so, so y'all are just misremembering when you said "I thought it was about trying" at 20:44. She just decided to let Negan exist, and appreciated his efforts to prove he had become better, and the only thing she's "trying" is to exist as her own person separate from Negan and her trauma caused by him.

I'm late to this as I just watched your video last night. I agree that Negan might/will die at the end but I do not think it will be by Herschel. I don't think Maggie would allow that. I'm thinking he'll go out trying to save Herschel or Maggie from either the Croat or walkers. BUT, I could have sworn I saw something that said this series would renewed for a second season so it would not make sense to kill Negan. Like Nikki, I was not a fan of Negan but I had a change of heart during the last episode of TWD when he and Maggie had talks. Negan was sincere when he was talking to Maggie and he sat and listened as Maggie talked to him. He is no more the annoying gasbag as he was when we first met him. Zeljko Ivanek, who plays the Croat, is a well-known actor. He's been in shows such as Homicide: Life on the Street, 24, Madam Secretary, Banshee, and Big Love, among others.
