another fun fact since you like my other fact: The quarry from season 6 (I think), where they draw the walkers out of and try to herd them away is the Vulcan Quarry, the same quarry where Shane tried to teach Carl how to hunt frogs in Season 1

First of all: Loved the reaction. I always wondered what would've happened if they picked up the orange backpack guy. He could've become the most valuable member of the group. Or, if I was a writer on this show, just a running gag turned secondary character. Like, every time they head out on the road, you'd hear him in a goofy voice going "HEYYY!! WAIT FOR ME!!" and it would be his catchphrase. He would become a beloved character with wonderful character development, all the time using his catchphrase in some form or another in everyday situations. And when he's about to be killed off, he'll use his catchphrase for the final time before getting eaten by walkers.

I know it's an old video, but about not trusting the orange backpack guy... if a lone person shows up at your house nowadays, and asks to be let in for help, do you let him/her into your home? Assume calling the police for them is not an option. Which of you ladies would let him in?

I felt bad about them not picking up the hitchhiker, but I would've been apprehensive too. He could have been on his own, he could have been with others, he could have been a good person or a bad person. There was just no way to be sure at that time. Rick was already keeping an eye on one new stranger while they went on this (dangerous) mission, I don't think any of them wanted to deal with a new tagalong right then, especially someone who should really know better than to be making that much noise out in the open. I'm also not too sure he'd be out there for very long, because that pack seemed rather unwieldy to lug around, and he was so quick to start yelling his head off. Seeing that pan made me wonder if he'd actually been living somewhere relatively safe until recently and didn't really know how to survive in the wilds of this new world.

I think the reason for that hitchhiker character was to develop the theme of giving people a chance that we've seen throughout the show, especially centering around Rick. The hitchhiker was sort of meant to parallel Michonne because in this episode Rick finally gives her a chance by letting her go alone with Carl to help him and at the end, it turns out that she might just be "one of us" as Carl puts it. Immediately after that we see what happens to the random guy that Rick chose not to give a chance. someone who might have also ended up being one of them. And with Tyrees's group we see the direct negative result of Rick turning people away and so now they're part of the governor's group.
