I agree, the Jesus death is probably the most surprising death, it looks like he is going to be the new leader of hilltop and there was so much they could do with that character, it was kind of disappointing that they didn't. From my understanding, Tom Payne who played Jesus left the show. I don't know his exact reasons but I've heard it was in part because they really were not developing him well. I think was one of the shows biggest problems after season 7, developing the new characters.

@@scarletc.7055ur wrong tho and the other guy was right. tom payne had been unhappy with how underused jesus had been. in the comics, he has a much larger role in the fight against the saviors. tom payne took a bunch of classes to do with karate so he could pull off a bunch of cool stunts that happen in the comics. the showrunners made tv show jesus a lot less cool tho lol. the showrunners said they came to a decision to kill off jesus rather than anyone else here because they knew tom wouldn’t mind leaving the show. it was lauren cohan, maggie’s actor, who left the show to join ABC’s whiskey cavailer, which only aired for one season before being cancelled.

As I am a huge fan of the five new characters can we just all appreciate the fact that Magna actually came along to help rescue a person she’s never met before, even after Rosita told them about this being something they had no idea about how to deal with. Magna still came. This is how much she loves her group and wants to help them all get a new home. I thought there was something so symbolic about the fact that it was her instead of maybe Luke or Connie. Magna was the one Michonne was so worried about (and wasn’t very nice towards if you ask me) and now here Magna was right by Michonne’s side and helped her despite all of that. I love season 9 so much and I’m glad you both are loving it too!
@@kcmet79 True! They really should’ve used her more, I don’t know why they didn’t because her character was very interesting. Nadia Hilker is such a good actress and just seems like the sweetest human being.

I think the hardest thing to keep in perspective is that its been 6 years so all the ex-saviours have new lives and Negan has been behind bars all that time. We only perceive it as a couple of episodes but a lot of things have changed and happened in that time, like new relationships, Rosabriel and Enidalden and why the animosity between communities etc.

One of my favourite mid-season finales, it’s so good and the horror tone of it is really damn good and well done and while it was sad to see Jesus go he went out fighting and I wouldn’t expect any less Henry been easily peer pressured definitely feels realistic for teenagers but I love how he isn’t stupid enough to go along with the game and takes out the walker These villains are probably my favourite of the entire show, I love Negan but he’s much more complex then a straight up villain

@carmony8756 Жыл бұрын
This is one of my favorite episodes. a whole 9 seasons and 8 episodes, we're literally programmed to think the walkers are this dumb creatures that can't do anything more than simple actions. We've seen thousands of walkers getting killed, not a single one of them reacted in an extraordinary way. We knew that there is literally no way a single walker as we know it would be able to kill someone like Jesus. They made it pretty obvious that he was going to die in that last couple of seconds, but no one would see it would happen the way it was, just a walker, but it dodges Jesus's blow. His death is one of the most shocking moments of the show.
@johnnymccraze Жыл бұрын
Regarding how they “talk” with the walkers, Eugene from the comics put it pretty well: “They don't operate on logic or reason. If one of them even so much as brushes a hand against your door, and another one sees that, mistakes that as an attempt to get in - it's over. That one starts trying to get in, the one who did the accidental tap thinks something's inside all of a sudden, he starts beating on the door with him.” It’s a domino effect of misread signals. When it’s a group of just mindless walkers going after the sound of fireworks, none of them think to go in another direction - why should they, if everyone’s doing it? But if one or two or more of them (disguised/camouflaged humans) goes the other way, the others will assume they saw something they didn’t, and will go where the pack leaders go. Like a perpetual motion machine of mindlessness.

As Rob said, we are seeing how important Rick's leadership was in keeping all together.TRUE!!! My take at this point in the story: Maggie & Daryl have guilt over Rick. Would Rick have "died" if they didn't distract him so Maggie could kill Negan? Daryl went into exile AND searched for Rick's walker. It was easier to stay in the woods than see Michonne, Judith & Rick's son (who never met his dad) everyday. Maggie has a double whammy because she feels guilt and Neagan is proof that Rick's way was the right path. I think she left with Georgie to help other communities because that's where Rick was mentally when he "died." For Michonne, maybe when it comes to light what actually happened (including Oceanside's role), she is pissed. I think Carol & the King are peacemakers, but they aren't Rick, and the breaking of their fellowship happens.

Another of my favourite episodes. Great reaction Rob & Trin, I cannot believe you finally made it to "Evolution" and I cannot believe how quickly you got here too. I told you you're in for a rollercoaster🎢 this season. You're so right Rob, I also remember thinking the same, but thinking both Carol & Ezekiel will be disappointed in Henry's decision to snuck out into the woods in the middle of the foggy night with the teenagers and thought bad influence. I was genuinely worried thinking that smallish herd/horde were going to trap the teens' in their hideout in the woods and kill either all of them or a couple of them. Gabriel slammed Negan's cell door without checking it was locked before storming out, being distracted and worried about Rosita. He has a habit of doing this doesn't he? Remember in "Conquer" (I think it was back in 5x16) when he returns from his emotional walk after trying to get bitten then changed his mind and killed the walker then the 2nd one being eaten alive on the ground etc when Spencer asked him to shut the gate and he makes a half-hearted attempt to close the gate by pulling it without looking behind him and checking what he was doing and it sort of bounced back open leaving it ajar and a walker gets in and then on Rick's return he finds it open with a clump of hair stuck to the gate? I found this episode so CREEPY and so full of TENSION right from the start when Rosita woke up in a panic in the infirmary and they tried to get her to lie back down and she said they didn't know what they were dealing with and jumped out of bed. We were like "WHAAAAT, WHAT TELL US ROSITA". Then when we saw Daryl & Dog couldn't turn that herd around and they were heading straight towards that cemetery after our guys helping Eugene, we found it VERY, VERY STRANGE & SUSPICIOUS. That cemetery scene was like something out of a horror movie mixed with Thriller, it was so SCARY, it had me on the edge of my seat, plus you couldn't see a blinking thing in the middle of the night through that thick, thick, thick fog.🌚🌫 I had a bad feeling when Jesus shouts to Aaron "GO I'VE GOT THIS", we screamed NOOOOOOO you NEVER split up, even more so in this fog, then we see him do his badass acrobatics killing walkers, but I know Rob you were like "WHY", but I could see what Paul Rovia (aka "Jesus") was doing, he decided to stay behind to give the group some time to escape and gain some ground and get ahead with an injured Eugene and wrongly thought he'd be OK and would catch up to them, however, this heroic action would unknowingly cost him his own life, then we were absolutely SHOCKED when we saw what happened, how what ourselves and Jesus thought was a walker ducked and swerved behind Jesus, he pulls out a concealed knife then stabs him in the back through his abdomen right through his heart and WE SCREAMED SO LOUD,😱 (SERIOUSLY I thought the neighbours were going to call the police it was that bad in my house), THEN whispers those chilling words in Jesus's ear, with pure shock on Jesus's face as he's dying, "You are where you do not belong." We cried in disbelief and were left disappointed we didn't get to see more of his martial arts skills he trained up so hard for this show.🥺😢 ********** Fun fact: Tom Payne who plays Paul "Jesus" Rovia, auditioned when he was in London when his agent asked him to audition, so he submitted his reading on tape. Just two days later, he not only found out that he had won the role, but also who he was actually going to be playing. Three days later, he was in Atlanta and getting ready to shoot his first scenes. His defining features is his long and luxurious hair and beard are fake. There was no time to grow long hair and a beard, BUT the make-up team attached fake beard to his face. So it might come as a shock to fans of the series that when he first appeared on The Walking Dead, the locks and facial hair he was sporting were both pretty much fake. These days (later episodes), the beard we see on Jesus is real. The spooky scene was one of the best action-horror sequences the show has ever done, and arguably the best scene of a very solid half-season. Payne is very proud to have gone out like that. He said, "You want to be part of moments in the show, and that's definitely a moment in the show," he says. "If that's all I ever had on the show I'd be happy, because it's something that people will remember. People still talk to me about my first episode, because that was really fun and it was a new, different thing for the show. So to have two of those big moments is special." Payne says working on the show was in some ways a frustrating experience, because Jesus is a martial arts expert, but he only got to show that off a few times. "I have been training ever since I've been on the show, and you would think that he was used a bit more in the Saviors war but it never really happened," he says. "So I was a bit frustrated, like 'this guy's a complete badass, when are we gonna see that again?'" When Payne got the script and found out his number was up, he was ready. "[Showrunner] Angela [Kang] called me just before, and I actually missed the call," he says. "I was texting with my girlfriend and I was like 'Angela just called me, maybe it's 'The Call,' hahaha,' and then I called her back and it was." He says he was prepared for it, though. "I was kind of in a moment of 'well, if they're not gonna give me anything else to do on the show, I'm cool with leaving at any point,' so when she called me I think she was a bit surprised that I was so laid back about it and was like 'oh, ok, cool. As long as we send him out in a cool way," he says. "Because if Jesus is going to die, it has to be a ton of people taking him out or it has to be a surprise, which it ended up being." We finally got to see Jesus go all out in the moments before his surprising death (he's still alive in the comics), slicing up walkers in Zack Snyder-style slow-mo. "I was super happy with it," Payne says. "I think it's a shocking moment, and it introduces this whole new group of characters who are............. AH AHHHH, NO SPOILERS HERE.🤫☝🏽 ********** In the meantime, back at Alexandria Negan is free, let's see what he gets up to next.😂🤔

I remember how we all lost our bonkers when this aired. When we saw the situation with Rosita and Eugene we were like, 'What the heck?' Then this episode comes along and we're like 'No effing way!' Only to realize that it's some dude wearing a mask pretending to be a walker?? CLEVER. Now that's a great way to adapt to your environment. Remember when Rick came up with covering themselves with blood and guts to walk amongst the walkers? Dude. Wearing a person's face is some smart tactic there. Makes sense that someone would've come up with that eventually. Rick was only a few days awake from his coma when he thought of covering himself in guts. We're 10 years deep into the apocalypse, what else have people come up with in order to survive? I like seeing how resourceful people can be. As for this episode, it was inspired by the 1968 film Night of the Living Dead. They wanted to bring back that feel and that vibe of horror back on the screen. Seeing this at night was effing awesome. It was almost like watching a scary film. Loved it!

The term "plot armor" has been around for at least 20 years. It's usually used in a derogatory way when a character survives something they shouldn't or a deux ex machina is used in a way that doesn't make sense, and it is not believable. Rob used it in a more joking and generalized way, like that Daryl is too important to the story to kill him off, so there's no reason to really worry about him.

I believe the actor playing Jesus asked to leave the show due to another opportunity. This show is amazing!
