The show frequently likes to pay homage to other horror icons In this episode that shipwrecked boat featured at the beginning is homaging Jaws That is especially apparent if you look at those yellow barrels. Eugene has always been a bit of a voyeur He used to watch Abraham and Rosita go at it and they kind of let him The best comment I heard about describing the Rosita/Gabriel/Eugene/Siddiq situation is Three Men and a Baby I like that what could’ve easily been a petty rivalry between all of them is subverted into this weird family unit where they’ve got each other’s backs. Also while everyone seems to like the training session on the beach everyone also seems to forget that we owe that to even happening to Tara While still at the fair and before getting taken she organized that with Oceanside I felt that was a nice overlooked way of paying forward the community impact she left behind.

This was such a great season opener. Eugene gets some decent salvage from the satellite. That look between Alpha and Carol was electric. Look at the Flowers, Alpha.

What makes this premiere so great for me is the tension The paranoia You feel it build the whole time As if there’s a powder keg about to burst All this build up seems as if we are gonna make it out of the episode ok and the one peaceful moment we get at the end and out comes Alpha like a wild animal waking up out of her cave and her and Carol lock eyes Damn what a scene Those are two bad bitches right there It’s a shame because it seems like as if for months Carol was trying to get away from Alpha forget the barn and the pikes isolate herself on the boat and the one moment she wants to spend with Daryl and here comes her own worst enemy looking at her straight in the eyes That poor woman can’t catch a break.

The Satellite falling felt like a tribute to Michael Crichton’s book The Andromeda Strain - where a satellite falls in Arizona with a extraterrestrial microorganism that starts an outbreak which also activates a protocol called Wildfire which ironically was Season 1 episode 5’s name with Dr Jenner

You're saying your money is on Carol, but you haven't seen Alpha fight. There is a reason she became the Alpha, leader of the Whisperers. I don't suppose you'll ever watch Tales of the Walking Dead, but in it, it is revealed that Alpha murdered her own father while she was still just 9 years old. Carol is an incredible survivor, but Alpha being worse than Negan and the Governor ought to make you less hasty to decide.

i also think i did not really enjoy season 9 because i really disliked henry... im not sure what it was about the kid but something triggered anger and cringe :P henry on the pikes softened the blow of both tara and enid's deaths. i was only sad for carol that she lost yet another kid she cared about :( and the fact that it breaks carol and ezekiel. but im not sad for henry who actually died.

Turn on the closed captioning. I don't have any hearing issues, but usually watch stuff with the CC on. It helps immensely with learning character names and place names, and catching things when the audio is quiet. (Unfortunately though, CC is spotty at best on YT.. so I don't use it on here very often).

it's a headache to balance the audio especially with Daryl and Morgan, they are usually very intense whisper talks so if we raise the volume it makes everything else blast so yeah close caption is the best way to go :/
