I always noticed that a character doesn't really die whenever they show them dying, but actually they really aren't dead. Some have actually gone missing or was left. Remember Kenny? He survived, Christa was last seen on S2 and we heard a gunshot, Lily was running away, what happened to the 400 days group? It's a whole cluster Telltale is making tho. But I'm sure a DLC will make it all connect within each other. Kate is still alive in my perspective

They can still hear your faint heartbeat. it depends if you are calm or not, but if you are going to stand there with a crazy heartbeat, you can expect them to find you easily. It was justified in Season 2 that they are indeed blind when Clem used the walker's guts to escape the hordes. (Pretty sure they can smell too idk if true) They saw Clem as one of their own through sounds/smell alone.
