I also love in Season 2 when it flashes back to Shane, Lori, Carl stuck on the interstate, and they see the military bombing the streets of Atlanta. So creepy.

Season 2 has way better actors and characters than the later seasons. So underrated. Introducing Hershel was great, the Rick/ Shane dynamic is what held the show together in the beginning.

Might be a bit unpopular, but S2 is my favorite. Although it had some dumb moments in the show (Lori, the well scene, and some other stuff) but Shane carried the season and it was probably the season where everyone felt like they had a part to play in the overall story. It set up the stakes of the living being more dangerous than the dead and how the group needs a sanctuary to survive the apocalypse.

Season 2 is a good season, I think it definitely dips down in the middle but it starts out really strong and ends really strong and Shane is an amazing character played by an amazing actor. It's not my favorite but people really shit on it.

Seasons 4-6 is my absolute favorite chunk of the series. From the stacked cast, to the way that so much of the comic material was adapted so well, if not even better than the original (such as Terminus and the intro to Alexandria). Season 4’s end to the Prison arc was very satisfying in my opinion, that midseason finale with Hershel’s death was great, and while the back half slowed things down, I really enjoyed the intro to Abraham’s crew and the inclusion of the Claimers group. That finale with Rick ripping out the guy’s throat is iconic! Season 5 and 6 are near perfect to me (outside the Beth hospital arc in s5, and the Glenn dumpster fakeout in s6 [I actually DONT hate the Negan cliffhanger too much]), rounding up my top 2. All three of those seasons are in my top 5 🙏🏾

I didn't know S2 had hate. I loved it, it was the season that set up the idea that characters can act completely different towards the world of zombies (Shane snapping, Carl becoming more cold, Hershel being in denial, Carol's heartbreak, Glen and Maggie's hopeful romance). I also felt it was the only 13+ episode season that really executed a season long story. Easily in the top 3 for me personally.

I remember season 2 was hated on alot for being “low-budget”. Looking back now this season had some of the best acting performances and took its time to give its characters development. Season 3 started throwing in some mindless action moments that just got mind numbing in later seasons.

Killing Carl is my only major complaint, 7 and 8 were a bit slow but overall I love the show. I think it will age well

They really fucked Chandler Riggs over big time trying to spin the narrative that he left of his own volition so people would come for him instead of the showrunners. He confirmed that was not true and he wanted to stay on the show but didn’t have a choice. The whole thing is just very shady and left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m glad he’s doing fine on his own without TWD. I know for sure he streams on Twitch and has a decent sized following there, so good for him.

I just started watching it over the past few months. I am on season 7 now (already read pivotal spoilers weeks ago, was naive to trust the internet when looking up General info) and the biggest gripe I have of this season is not the pacing really, it's that it doesn't hold up as well as earlier seasons. I don't know if their special effects team got an overhaul around this time or what but between the deer at the fair, Rick and Michonne's "zombie bowling" with the trip wire and Rick standing on top of the trash heap, the special effects look crappy. That's not to say the effects always looked super realistic in earlier seasons but they did a better job of stylizing them. And due to the bad special effects, it's harder for me to buy into characters like King Ezekiel and Jadis, who are more over-the-top by nature. The introduction of all these factions seems a bit rushed if anything as well and the show has an overall different tone compared to the early seasons.

Killing Carl really killed my love of the show. It felt like what’s the point of watching this show. Killing a child in a story isn’t a major problem for me, but doing it over and over just seems like torture porn at some point.

Glad to see you give Season 2 the credit it deserves. Something that plays into your point about them dragging storylines into the ground is that after Shane died I wished we could've seen more of him. That's how you want to leave the audience, not like it was with the Saviors mess etc. It's an insult to their remaining fanbase that they're making people watch not one spinoff, but three, to see how the story ends.

I Absolutely Love Season 1 and 2 because of the Orginal characters the orginal Atlanta Group with Rick, Shane, Daryl, Carl , Dale, Merle , Glenn, Andrea, T-Dog, Carol, Sophia and Even the smaller characters like Jim and Amy from Season 1! I Also like how in Season 1 and 2, the Zombies were an actual threat, it was all about survival against the zombies , there were no villians introduced besides the conflict between Rick and Shane which and I loved! Jon Bernthal Killed it as Shane and loved his perforance as Shane especially in Season 2! In the later seasons I found the zombies become more of a background and they focused heavily on villians which I didn't care too much for But I did enjoy David Morrissey performance as The Governor, fantastic actor and Jeffery Dean Morgon is great as Negan too but I like a balance between the Zombies and villians. In the later seasons you might not even see one single zombie on screen during the episode. Season 1 And 2 was Peak Walking Dead For Me in my opinion!

Season 2 was great, during the time when we first meet Hershel and when Shane was in the picture. The tension between some of the characters mainly Rick & Shane were great during season 2. Season 5 is honestly top 3 imo, and my personal favorite. There were so many bloody shootouts & satisfying deaths. Season 5 really captures the low of the characters and them trying so hard to survive in a brutal world, and really felt like a “survival season”

Even though we disagree on our placement, I respect your opinion! Thank you for getting back into it! After Rick left, Negan carried the show, when he's actually in episodes. 11. Season 8 10. Season 7 09. Season 1 08. Season 4 07. Season 10 06. Season 3 05. Season 11 04. Season 2 03. Season 5 02. Season 9 01. Season 6 Season 11, I've only watched once in full. Upon a rewatch, it could go up or down. The Series Finale made it edge out season three. Glad someone else agrees with me of all the annoying walking in season 4 of this show. Some very good episodes, and a lot of walking. You should check out the honest trailers of The Walking Dead on Screen Junkies.

I didn't watch most of S.10 My order 9. S9 In my opinion S9 first 5 episodes with Rick was actually on the verge of bein overall better than S 7 an 8 an maybe even S 4 5 an 6 but once Rick Departed the show died for me. I liked the Whispers but without Rick it just felt like a different show. An then Maggie out of nowhere left an made a dumb reason why. I was bored of the show. Negon kinda carried the show. The first 5 episodes tho was really great tho.. But the show got boring. Imagine how great this show would of been if Rick an Maggie stayed longer.. 8. S8 This was actually more entertaining than S7. My only problem it was too dragged out. If they didn't drag it out I would of had this over S7. Despite S7 opener bein the most intense episode. 7. S7 Negon character saved the show. He was my favorite. But it was also at times boring. I didn't like how they brought in so many groups. I did love how clever an funny Negon was. I liked seein Rick now finally getting his ass handed to him.. The first episode opener was the most intense out of all.. 6. S6. The first half was great but I thought second half was boring. I liked 2nd half of season 5 better than 6. Season 6 second half felt like same o same o. I liked the last episode cliffhanger tho.. This had potential to be better than S 5 an 4 but it failed with how boring S6 second half was.. I like no way out just wished more people should of died.. 5. S5 I was so excited for this season opener. But after the Terminus war it got draggy. The hospital war with cops was ok nothing exciting tho. After 1st Half it got boring a little but not too bad. 4. S4 This was imo the scariest 1st half season out of 16 episodes seasons because of the outbreak, an how dark it was. I thought it had the scariest ending with first episode an that lady was creepy that went Looney like Rick. I thought after the war with Governor tho it got boring. Only liked 2 episodes in 2nd half.. 3. S2 I like the farm it gave me nigh of the living Dead vibes with country look. I thought Season 2 was the best ending. It was a little draggy but I liked the Rick Shane an Lori trio story bein longer.. The last episode was my Top 5 favorite.. 2. S1 I would of put this at 1# but only 6 episodes. They were all great.. The walkers was the best in this season because they was the most aggressive.. 1. S3 I was disappointed in the ending. Only 1 boring episode out of 16 which is impressive.. I loved humans at war with humans the first time an the prison background was the best.. The Governor was the best hated villian imo... Killer within episode is the saddest episode imo an my Top 5 episode..

I feel 6.06 and 6.07 are pretty boring in the 1st half. 6.09 No Way Out is my favorite episode, and I also like Not Tomorrow Yet and The Same Boat. The finale is underrated. It's great until we find out it's going to be a cliffhanger. I also really like 3.04 Killer Within! It was so good and sad. The Governor was a great villain!

The Saviors just felt like another dragged out Rick group vs another human war again. But Negon character was so different it made it interesting. When Maggie an Carol got kidnapped it felt more like a re run than cliffhanger from when Maggie was kidnapped by Governor. For some reason when Carol gets kidnapped I never felt suspense vibes. Just like when she was kidnapped in S5. I never got I'm scared for Carol vibes not once when she was kidnapped twice. Them shooting up Negon crew in season 6 was ok but it wasn't the same impact as Rick shooting up in Prison against Governor or Terminus imo. I just thought it was ok

They show worked Much better when they’re constantly moving like they were 1-5. Another question they’re answering is what happened in the rest of the world. I really wish Frank Darabont got full creative control, I wanna see what he would have done with The Governor, Negan and the Whispers. I love the show as it is, but man what we could have gotten from Frank Darabont. Also in season 10 with the bonus episodes, they should have done a what if Shane lived and became the leader of the saviors, just imagine the group on the knees and the RV door opens and it’s Shane! I kinda wish this happened.

I understand why people praise Darabont highly, but it seems to be forgotten the direction he wanted to take. He was thinking of straying pretty far from the source material, he talked about having an episode of season 2 be all about the walker in the tank back in the series premiere. Had he kept the show in his helm, we might not have even seen some of those storylines

Whenever you were talking about the walkers having new abilities like climbing and grabbing stuff in season one when the og Atlanta group was hiding in the shop the zombies picked up rocks and smashed the door. And also in season one when Glenn and Rick was climbing up ladders after he got the tank a zombie started to climb up. Not to sound like a huge nerd It just caught my eye I'm sorry.

How i would fix this show: - Season 1: No fix needed - Season 2: No fix needed - Season 3: Summarize some Woodbury and Prison Story Arcs and end this season with "Too Far Gone" - Season 4: Summarize 4x09 - 4x16 with multiple story arcs in like 4 episodes and summarize season 5 to 12 episodes - Season 5: Just Season 6, BUT end with Negan killing Abraham - Season 6: Opening with Glenn Kill and then summarize that whole all out war arc in this season. I bet theres even room to end this season with Ricks "death" - Season 7: Whisperer Arc 9x6-10x16 summarized plus "Heres Negan" - Season 8: Summarize Season 11 to 16 episodes - Season 9: Combine the 3 spinoff shows to Plotline A, B and C

Little correction, Frank Darabont was only the director and lead writer of season 1, Glen Mazzara took over for season 2. Season 2 not only also experienced the loss of the entire writing staff from the first season, but also suffered a lot of budget cuts from AMC. Which is why there are hardly any zombies, the farm arc is stretched waaayyyy too much, and the few times you do see zombies other than the one in the well, the makeup is pretty rough compared to season 1.

The Negan backstory episode was very likely the best episode in the entire show. And yet, the very worst episode in the entire show is also to be found in season 10: the episode with Daryl reconnecting with his lover at the cabin.

Double edge sword is really the word. The comic I believe was originally pitched as the zombie story that never ends. Comic ended a few years ago the TV show was more successful in that front as it will never end

The only thing I disagree with is your S9 placement because despite it being better than 7 & 8 I think the messiness of it puts it right next to S6 in terms of quality. 1. Season 1- Darabont is the goat. His writing can’t be topped. One of the best pilot episodes ever. 2. Season 5- This was the peak of the series in terms of popularity. Gimple did a good job of adapting the comics during seasons 4-6 3. Season 6- This is where the problems the show has really started to become apparent. Gimmicky writing like the Glenn dumpster fake out and the Negan cliffhanger. But overall, this was the last season to adapt the comic well. No Way Out was great and that episode alone is probably why I rank it so high. 4. Season 2- Extremely underrated season. This is where Darabont left the show but this season very much keeps the same tone and feel of the first. Great characters, great acting, great dialogue. A bit slow but it’s good qualities need to be acknowledged more. Season 2 is classic TWD 5. Season 3- There are many problems with this season. Glenn Mazzara butchered Andrea but overall the Governor is a compelling villain. This is another classic season. 6. Season 4- Mixed bag. Some of the greatest episodes are in this season but the back half was paced poorly with the bottle episodes. 4x16 is the best episode in the entire series in my opinion. 7. Season 9- Angela Kang gives the show a return to form after the disappointing all out war arc. It still doesn’t save the story in my opinion. Rick leaving is fine. Without Carl to carry the torch, the show feels lifeless. 8. Season 11- The commonwealth arc was rushed. The ending resolves nothing. Without civilization being rebuilt like the comic the show just ends abruptly. Seeing Danai and Andy at the end was cool though. 9. Season 10- Michonnes last fucking scene has KingBach in it. That’s literally like putting Logan Paul in the scene. This season is cringe like season 11. Angela Kang’s return to form doesn’t last long in my opinion. 10. Season 7- 7x01 is one of the best episodes in the series. But the quality of every aspect of the show drops after that episode. Shit pacing, shit acting, shit writing, shit cinematography. Booty cheeks ass season. The garbage people season. 11. Season 8- one of the worst seasons of any TV show I’ve ever seen. Horrible cringe dialogue and writing. Carl’s death is the dumbest choice Gimple ever made. Turning him into a pacifist makes no sense. Complete middle finger to everyone who wanted them to follow the comics. Which is ironic because Gimple always acted like he wanted to adapt the comic. L season Numbers 3-6 on this list are interchangeable.

The issue with 7 was that it was nothing but build up, the entire season was just building up to all out war, pair that with the way the episodes came out weekly, it was a god damn drag. Season 8 has sort of the same issue, but binging it makes it so much better

Very unpopular opinion, I really enjoyed Season 7 and 8. I remember seeing a Negan scene before even starting the show beginning of this year, and I loved his character so much I didn’t mind spending whole episodes on him. The battles between The Saviors and Ricks group were so great. I personally prefer these over 9 and 10. I can see people’s issues though as I wasn’t around back then to feel the disappointment.

I dipped out somewhere after the intro of Oceanside (that might have been the last episode I watched on the weekly basis). My friend and I were super frustrated because we loved the story, but it was sooo horribly paced and hyper focused on side stories that distracted or drew out the main conflict. Having fairly recently gone back through the series (only seasom I haven't watched is 11 even though I know the jist), I agree with you. I still hate the pacing of seasons 7-8. I think some episodes should've been combined by having episodes carry multiple plot lines like it used to do in its prime, but truth be told, when I was able to binge it, I still genuinely found myself invested in the story. I can honestly say that whatever my issues may be with this series, my problem was never that I disliked the story which is honestly rare for me. My complaints ultimately boil down to pacing/season length and maybe a few story decisions where they diverted from the comics. That's it. I'd still watch the weakest seasons of this show over most shows out there.

Not exactly. A cliffhanger should resolve the story of the season for the most part while shocking you or teasing something huge for the shows return. Season 6 chose to cut off the conclusion of its story to force everyone to come back in droves for the season 7 premiere ratings. It's not the same thing. If it was, so many people wouldn't have reacted so poorly to that finale.

@@craigsovilla6578it’s television of course it’s gonna be watered down, it’s not HBO. They did a fine job with All Out War. Could it have been better? Yes. Was it bad? Not at all (aside from Carl dying). JDM was fantastic and he along with Steven Ogg and Andrew Lincoln carried that arc. Unfortunately there’s no pleasing Walking Dead fans. Half the base are the hardcore comic fans who want the show to be identical to the comics, despite the comics having several 1 dimensional characters and storylines with no depth and ridiculous motivations that don’t play well on TV. The other half of the base want lame television written for toddlers, where the good guys always win and the bad guys lose, and evil is bad, despite literally everyone being evil to an extent. The minute everyone stopped watching because Glenn died and Rick was subservient to Negan for half a season, was when I knew the show was doomed. The showrunners could never get creative after that point, because all the middle aged housewives would stop watching if Daryl Dixon wasn’t fucking Superman in every episode.

I finished watching the walking dead ! First, I had watched the first 4 seasons years ago but stopped watching it because I got bored ! I was 10-11 years old ! I’ve read some of the comic books (even 1st issue) now in 2023 I decided to give it a chance but the show ended (or..”ended”) and also because I wanted to see the Negan character !! Liked the show overall, but I still have the problem of pacing, way too many episodes that are filler or just boring but I must say I do not have a season that I disliked, I have least favorites. My ranking 11- Season 6 6/10 (to me the most boring season but still watchable, episode no way out and the last episode are great to me and redeem this season) 10- season 10 7/10 (I really like the Whisperers storyline, nice moments and the last EP called here’s Negan IS BY FAR EASILY EASILY EASILY the best episode of this season !!!!!! That is a season also full of filler content) 9- season 11 (final season) 7,5/10 (the action is very well done, very well shot, even using a bit of slow motion, nice moments, I do like the finale or should I say the “finale” because the spin offs will be a continuation of it which I think the guys are very greedy LOL and again…. Full full full of filler content and boring moments) 8- season 5 7,5/10 (the cannibals are kinda insane but storyline kinda short for me, I like the character of Noah, cool moments as well but again…. Filler episodes) 7 - season 9 8,5/10 (really good season actually, and even 2 episodes after Rick’s departure are still nice but after that until the antepenultimate episode…… just boring filler shit, but last episode was cool) 6- Season 2 8,5/10 (I ain’t gonna lie, to me S9 is more entertaining than S2 but S2 overall is better, I like the farm setting, the walkers in the barn, some nice moments, a bit of filler but a pretty nice season) 5- season 4 8,5/10 ( amazing moments, very good continuation of S3, like the scenes with the governor but here is where I feel Carl started to become very annoying, stupid and I started to dislike him and a bit of filler content but I know this one might be better than S7 and 8) 4- season 7 8/10 ( the main reason why I really really enjoyed this season is Negan, SIMPLY LOVE THE GUY, also love Simon by Steven Ogg who played Trevor from GTA V that I love !! I do not understand the hate over this season aside again THE FILLER SHIT !! I found myself many many times saying “bring Negan back, bring Negan back” ! Many boring and uninteresting moments but Negan is just perfect) 3- Season 8 8,5/10 (I will never ever understand the hate over this one either, I really enjoyed it, Negan still stealing the show for him haha and I DO LIKE CARL’S DEATH !! Seriously, I do not have any problem with that !!! First, I don’t like Carl since S4, he nerver bothered me before it but I didn’t like the boy 😂 and I think his death was important and even emotional despite I don’t like the character, the action is awesome and again filler episodes, if the guys had taken the best episodes of S7 and 8 and made just 1 season, it would’ve been my fav season by far !!!!! 2- season 1 9/10 (great start, not so long at all, nice introduction to these characters but still a bit slow but great season, and it’s the one still with the best shot of the whole series, that overhead shot on the tank at the very end of EP1 and very beginning of EP2) 1- season 3 8,5/10 (S1 might be the best but 3 was the most interesting I guess, I like the governor but Negan is much much much much better, I don’t know… seriously if S7 and 8 didn’t have so much filler and boring stuff believe or not they would’ve been my number 1 or 2 😂😂 I like the setting in the prison and it’s really cool to see Merle Dixon back !! I think that’s it, I like the series overall but the pacing is its biggest problem, the rewatchability is low unfortunately, I cannot watch TWD every year like I can do it with Dexter, breaking bad or sopranos. But definitely it’s a good series. My rating for the series is 8/10 !!

I hate how they handled the commonwealth soldiers in the show rather than the books. They soldiers aren’t all bad and theyre humanized a lot. And most of them are tired of getting pushed around and not getting payed enough. In the show they’re just cannon fodder.

Shane was my favorite character cause he knew what had to be done and did it but that jackass Rick had to kind of take him out not literally cause Carl actually killed him for good. Season 1 is hands down the best one, it has that apocalyptic end of the world feel overall that I really wasn't really able to feel ever again, I have rewatched it at least 10 times. For me it derailed on season 2, just knowing all the great ideas that Darabont had for it, and I really hated the way they wasted characters with so much potential: Shane, Merle, Andrea, and don't make me talk on how they turned the most badass character into Rick's dog. I can't say that I haven't enyojed the other seasons, but it pains me to know that this series could have taken a much better path if they kept Darabont as the showrunner. After all, it was his idea to adapt the comic.

Switching to the 16 episode format with a mid season finale was deff aggravating as someone who read the comics already. It forced them to add so much filler and stupid plot lines that weren’t in the comics. 7-8 which was the negan arc which is the best damn arc in the comics they just ruined with filler and the stupid garbage pals kids! Don’t get me wrong I liked that they switched stuff up from the comics and kept us on our toes but they just needed better writing for the stuff they added. Your critique sounds interesting to be fair, but coming off of what's been going on with books these days where it's all about “action, action, action” shorten the plot to a T, leaving no room for character development-you do sound like you advocate all action, no substance and you're just here for the overall story's tentpole event meat and bones-but you forget about what makes these characters great, and that's the journey. I'm sorry if my point-out critique outright offends you, but you can't say that you don't sound that way to an extent. The best stories in any medium of fiction will always boil down to the character journeys, and yes, that includes the little things because they do matter to make something great. Especially with the way you brush your description of season 4b; pretty much all fans agree that 4B had the greatest character journeys in their development and overlooking that is a big understatement to the raw character development there, to make season 5 so great (imo, the peak of TWD).

I agree with a lot of what you had to say. Personally though, I think Season 1 is way overrated and one of the seasons I cringe at when it's on. Season 2 is one of my all time favorites though. It has a lot to do with how amazing the actors and characters were and I like how they dealt with life or death decisions (deciding about executing the kid) in the very beginning of the apocalypse - decisions that later on would be easier to make.

Felt like it happened just for the sake of "Woah action" I had already been giving up for awhile before that but that scene just broke whatever interest I had left for the show.
