It’s honestly one of biggest confidence creators I’ve had in skiing. Even if you take it super slow it gives you this sense of accomplishment. I usually head to HV 1-5 times a year. But since Covid havnt been able to.

When I was still a beginner snowboarder, my school went to Holiday valley for a ski club trip. We had been saving up money and fundraising the whole year to afford it. Probably about 45 minutes into us hitting the mountain, my friends, who were all skiers, decided we should go ride down The Wall. They all stood at the top of it waiting for someone to go first and I decided I would do it. I made it the whole way down the slope miraculously and was so proud of myself, only to lose edge right after the part where it flattens out at the bottom. I had too much speed and ended up falling super hard. Good times. It made me a way better rider though.

the issue I have with the wall is that for the speeds reached when actually skied (not just side slipping) it becomes very dangerous due to the beginner trails that merge right at the bottom where your speed can still be very high - you also have to plan for the narrow bridge and the ski lift towers ...avoid hitting those ;)

I went for the first time last year, it’s hard to do this run justice from a video. That view is intimidating and makes it feel like you’re standing on the edge of the roof of a 7 story building

The wall is " kinda " " easy " Just GOTTA commit & makes quick turns, & have a sense of feeling ice. Knowing if your edges are gripping, do t fight it , got for the slide ride until they grab. If you ski mid west / east coast. As mentioned. It's a huge booster for confidence !

I did this run this year. I’ve been riding since I was four and I’m currently 16. It’s a breeze you just need to make sure you use the space and speed check at the top.

This is why the run rating system is a joke. Steep groomers are not “double black diamonds” like the only time a run should be a “double black diamond” is if there’s a chute, cliff, mandatory air or some kind of obstacle that makes it “expert”
@joelp5093
@joelp5093 4 жыл бұрын
I mostly agree with you but think in this case the double black is to deter inexperienced skiiers. Most skiiers could get down a black diamond like Yodeler or Foxfire if they go slowly but you can't really do that on the Wall. I've seen people get seriously hurt on the Wall and if it was a single black and had a less intimidating name it would definitely happen more often

Please do not “slide” down this run like the dude in this video!! It makes the run incredibly icy!! If you can’t carve a turn with the edge of your board/ski, then you don’t belong on this run. This is a great run in the morning when the snow is fresh and soft. But it becomes sh*t in afternoon when intermediate level skiers attempt to slide down the hill and leave a sheet of ice in their wake. If you can’t properly carve on the edge of your board/ski, you are not an “expert” and have no business attempting this run.

Been to both... it’s steeper than it looks in person and it’s normally all Ice at the top. It’s not much of a run but if you try to turn at the top you’ll be on your can. Eastern trail conditions not nearly as good as the west that’s what makes it challenging
