I remember watching this show back in the '70's with my mom and dad. My dad grew up during the Great Depression and this show brought back quite a few memories for him. He and my mom are both gone now, and I would give just about anything to have just one night sitting with them watching "The Waltons" and listening to my dad's stories. I miss them both so much.

Most people don't want to watch good and wholesome television or movies today. Honestly, i seriously doubt if writers in Hollywood know how to write stuff like "The Waltons" today. Everyone has been overexposed to the dark side of human nature today. With the oversaturation of petty reality tv and grimey crime dramas, i doubt that people will know how to receive it.

Except that never happened, neither did the brady bunch, leave it to beaver... all shows TELLING us morals to have, and old people just seeing their youth through rose tinted glasses. Pretty sure heroin and cocaine were legal during the Waltons. Women and people of color had no rights. It MIGHT have only been good for white men, but already the class divide was so bad that most of us worked forever for nothing. Read a history book, dont watch crappy TV propaganda.

Isn’t it really something how simple melodies stay in our memory for as long as we live? From nursery rhymes to Christmas songs- music is very powerful on the human mind. For those who remember this TV show airing in the 70’s, you all know exactly what I’m talking about. This theme reminds me of my parents, who are no longer among the living, and siblings gathered ‘round the tele watching this very show. The trumpet melody haunts my subconscious to this very day. I absolutely adore it and I miss those days so very badly...

Well said. I watched the Waltons when it first aired in the '70s and just saw a couple episodes tonight on the Hallmark channel. The first 5yrs were the best after that the kids kind of grew up and out of their roles which is unavoidable . But I always loved the theme song, simple yet touching, a perfect fit for the show.

This was and still is perhaps the best show ever made for television, so normal and so down to earth real. Like wow what a cast of characters. Along with Ellen (Vertigo) Corby and Will (Jeremiah Johnson) Geer. Love this haunting theme music. Like so far beyond sad how most television shows these days have devolved into evil drugs, mindless sex and greed driven violence. Reflecting our current state of affairs imploding from within. Mentally and spiritually spiraling evermore down. Every generation forced to find out the hard way. Over and over eternal reincarnation. I mean like seriously wow, The Waltons, from our faster future perspectives, slower easier everything way of living, probably seemed like life lived too radical and too fast paced from their grandparents past perspectives.

Here in Brazil it was a very popular series, it marked my childhood, a simple way of a time that valued moral and ethical values. At that time, television did not use perversion, plots of hate, racism and violence to hold viewers' attention, it was healthy and always had a positive message ... The world has changed, but I and many of my generation still value the good values and customs. We cannot contaminate ourselves with the current society, but we managed to survive, after all we are a strong, fearless and tough generation.
