Same. Was a kid when our family watched this every week and loved it. I just saw Richard Thomas in the touring production of To Kill a Mockingbird. He still has that boyish look all these years later, and gives a great performance as Atticus!

I'm always intrigued by people's claims of "simpler times." What does that mean? Simpler in what way? Most things today are easier to replace than repair... that's simpler. Most people have cellphones that take the place of paper maps, telephones, typewriters, televisions, and a myriad other things... that's simpler. You have a larger selection of food to choose from not only in your grocery store but when I go out to eat... while maybe not "simpler," it certainly is better. Your car is more robust, lasts longer and typically gets better gas mileage... that's simpler. The sum of all human knowledge is at your fingertips from the aforementioned phone and/or a home PC.. that's certainly simpler. The world was a much more violent place. It may not seem like it, but it's a fact. We're simply more aware of violence today. Less violence certainly lends itself to a simpler world. What is occurring today that is making life less simple? Technology has literally made most of the the things people used to do either non-existent, or so easy we tend to forget that our ancestors toiled away for hours/days/weeks to achieve the same thing.

@@spec24 simpler meaning you didn't need to know as much (thing like how ro navigate tax forms, how to shop online, and things made "easier" by. Technology.) To get by in life. @@spec24 There is much that is better now than then...and much that is worse now than then! Many people my age (growing up in the 70s)..say 'simpler' times..it means nostalgia. Amazing..some 90s kids will soon have 'nostalgia' and long for 'simpler times'. No..things were not perfect in the 70s..but they aren't perfect now either. My parents watched this show and longed for the 30s..(and my dad went hungry in the 30s!) Many memories are 'rose colored' when they are of youth!..just saying!

I could be wrong, but this seems like it may be the theme song to the pilot episode, as it is quite lengthy. At any rate, this was a very well written show. The topics that were presented were well thought out and they make you ponder things.

My parents grew up in the depression era. My mom used to love this show, and was particularly struck by the theme song. She said, "I don't understand how they can create music that takes me back to that time, but they did!" We would watch The Waltons every week. Miss those times. It was such a great, great show!

Both my parents came from large Depression era families. They and my aunt's and uncles loved this show and said that was really how life was. I loved staying at my Grandparents old farm house full of people in the 60's-80's. When I'd go to bed at night upstairs it was comforting drifting off to sleep. The house would grow quieter but sometimes people would still be in the dining room or on the wraparound porch wooden swing talking softly. I'd hear the sounds of the mountains at night and the smell the sweet air of summer in West Virginia before I fell asleep. The farm is long gone. No one is left of my parents, aunts and uncles. Just lost an older sister. But the connection to my cousins is more important than ever and keeping those memories alive of when we were all together.

Kami has a video out with an interesting take on this opening credit. She said she isn’t really sure if she remembers filming it. She can’t recall if it’s a true memory or from seeing it air so many times. I think she was only 6 years old or so. She also said she thinks she had to run more then once. She thinks she was told to slow the run down so they could film it. I can understand that. It’s like my old home movies (I’m the same age as her) and, I think I remember it happening but a lot of it is having watched the family home movies so many times.

I remember watching the waltons. Sitting in our ancient farm house that had once been a log cabin. The wind and snow howling outside. So damn cold. Never enough to eat. Like the Waltons we survived. The Waltons house looked rich to me then. I had 4 brothers and we were very poor rural people. There were some parallels to the Waltons in our house. Ignorance was never tolerated or was hate. That winter and many years later they aged as we did. As an adult I would be on the warner lot, where the show was filmed, see the house. I swear I could hear and feel that cold winter wind as the fire blazed to keep up.

WELL GEORGE LIED THEN BECAUSE IT'S THE OPPOSITE .. THEY ARE NOT TRYING TO STRENGTHEN THE FAMILY THEY ARE TRYING TO DESTROY THE FAMILY AND THEY ARE DOING A GOOD JOB OF IT... WITH THE I PHONES AND TELEVISION AND TWITTER AND FACE BOOK .. YES THEY HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB OF MAKING PEOPLE INTO ROBOTS... WE ARE SO FAR FROM THE WALTON'S IT'S CRAZY AND WE NEED TO GET BACK TO SIMPLER TIMES OR WE ARE GOING TO FACE GRAVE DANGER.. AND GOOD WE NEED THE CHANGE.. PEOPLE NEED TO COME TOGETHER AS ONE .... LIKE ONE BIG WALTON'S FAMILY... IS WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS TO BE ...

I was about 5 or 6 years old in the early 70s in Singapore when I first saw The Waltons TV series. I LOVE LOVE this theme song. It has a beautiful melancholic tune. I feel happy and a little sad when ever I hear it.

The Waltons began on tv when I was 14 years old. I loved it from the beginning. Watched it every week. I remember one Thursday night, my grandmother called. She asked my Mama what we were doing. My mama told her, we are watching The Waltons. Lisa just LOVES that show.

My dad watched this when he was younger. My whole family watched this because of my dad. I fell in love with the Waltons. I wish it was like that now a days. Humble. ❤ Children being children and showing respect to the elderly. The family dynamics. Oh I just love the Waltons!!!

Ah, great memories. Funny thing is I never really ever watched the show, but I remember the tune always playing on TV when I was a kid - I miss it! Incidentally, this theme is WAY slower than I remember! This is approximately 170bpm, but in my memory, the tune was about 185bpm! :D

I think this was one of the first shows that actually allowed the passage of time. They had to as the kids all grew up. Started in the mid-to-late 1920's with the last years of the Great Depession and came all the way into the early 50's. I think they reached the Kennedy assassination before they stoppped making the reunion movies. That covers a big chunk of time.

It is hard to believe, or remember, that their theme song would be allowed to be so leisurely at 1:39 seconds long. I watch the show now on Hallmark and it is cut to about 10 seconds. I love how the original theme song tells the whole story of the show including the love (and flirting) between John and Olivia. This original season one is one of the best TV theme songs that is probably overlooked.

Good night Pa: what a cool Dad you were. The coolest. As a kid of the 70s, if I had to choose one series for my Desert Island DVD from that era it would be The Waltons. Wasnt cool back in the day to admit you liked this slice of American applie pie, but I loved every episode, and cared for every character. My stomach fills with a fireside glow when I think of the joy each episode brought me . There were two role models for me in the 70s: Tony from Saturday Night Fever, and John Boy from The Waltons. Could never decide which one I wanted to be; and my love of Lou Reed and Kung Fu confused me even more. Perfect Days, Grasshopper!
