I love that the Master freaks out after hearing the word Cruciform, but as soon as he hears that the *Dalek Emperor* has it, we get this silence from the Master which implies he just snapped out of fear, leading into his meltdown

I heard in a behind the scenes thing for another volume that originally this was gonna be it but Jacobi loves to play The Master so much that he asked if he could return. Jacobi : Born to play The Master. You can tell he is having a lot of fun in every scene. He gives his all and respect the character. What an amazing performer.

In a multi-layered plot to take over the universe where only he would rule (and ultimately escape the Time War) the Master *not only* ensured the victory of the Daleks... but was so horrified - and scared - by what he'd done that he fled to the end of time This is the event - this 'plan' that went wrong - that turned the Time War from a 'War' into 'Hell' - this birthed the could-have-been-king - the nightmare child - the skaro degredations - *he helped all of that happen* by feeding paradox energy into the Heavenly Paradigm - and then drove it insane by ordering it to create a 'perfect universe' It's funny He wanted to create a better universe - a perfect universe... an almost 'Doctorish' desire ended up ensuring the success of the most wicked and evil creatures *ever*

@@orangeaceproductions That had been the plan but when the Tardis is brought to the base, it's implied by Tenth Doctor he'd either take Yana to Utopia, or maybe bring him somewhere else. Which would have started a whole new list of possibilities.

So much of War Master, feels like a very dark reflection of the first doctor. The slight repeating of words. The Don't cry to baby YANA at the end is a dark parallel to the doctor goodbye to Susan. I would love to learn how much is is the writing, how much is deliberate on Derek Jacobi's part. The sad thing is you almost have a degree of remorse In War Masters voice as he sees the horrors of the Crucible.

I always assumed that Yana being an orphan found in the storm was a made up memory by the chameleon arch like the ones the Doctor had as John Smith. Interesting finding out that his incarnation was literally reverted to a baby.

@@Saltybuheroddly enough, Big Finish thought the memory was a false one too, but Russell T Davies was very insistent that the memory Yana has of being found as a child was meant to be real, so he was initially hesitant about Big Finish making a series with Jacobi as the Master. However, once they were able to find a way to make it work and explained it to Russell, he was more than happy for the series to be made. I believe it’s a key reason that the first box set of The War Master released was the end of his story, so they could get the explanation out of the way.

He lived a whole life in service to humanity. Yana would have died on Malcassairo to get the remnants of humanity to Utopia. He was ready to finally sleep. And then the first thing the Master does when he regains his memories is to sabotage Yana's life's work.

The Daleks didn’t win though. The Time Lords and the Daleks were locked in a constant stalemate. It’s why the War Doctor opted to use the Moment on both sides. The Time War could not be won, only ended.

It's baby Yana. At the end the way The Master was speaking was that it was his consciousness inside the watch. We know this mainly because we can hear the watch ticking.

Yes. The first box set is chronologically the last. I think this was done to explain why Jacobi’s Master was in the Time War, but still found as a human child as Yana. The producers did make it clear that Russell T Davies was initially hesitant about the series, as he didn’t think Jacobi’s Master was in the War, but when they gave him an explanation that worked, he was 100% for it.

Missy's next incarnation was born without any goodness inside of him or her, that was expelled and incarnated into the Lumiat. The Dhawan Master hadn't made an appearance yet when Missy S2 released, but him being evil with no rhyme or reason makes it look like he does come after Missy.

Time lord weapon designed to make you the "perfect" you rewriting your timestream, The master commits a series of horrible acts to super charge the paradigm and try to transform the universe into a perfect version without the daleks... it goes wrong and turns the time war into absolute hell.
