I absolutely love this trilogy. It helped to re-energize me about Dragonlance, right along with the birth of the Nexus. Mina took inspiration from Joan of Arc. She was but a child in the Citadel of Light boxed set. She existed prior to Weis and Hickman using her. The idea of her being a god didn't come about until the Dark Disciple trilogy. All in all, one of my favorite Dragonlance characters from the Age of Mortals. Plus that artwork is phenomenal.

Exactly! I was debating on mentioning her godhood but by not doing it, only confuses why she was changes in the first place.

Glad they brought the creators of Dragonlance back to fix the realm and to bring the gods and magic back. My friends were so upset when Krynn lost so much that they refused to game in the realm of Dragonlance. 😊

I wish they never left but they would’ve moved on to other IP’s if they hadn’t.

@@DLSaga I think TSR spent too much time on Forgotten Realms.

Mina is probably my favorite character from Dragonlance. The story of her is so interesting.

Wow, I don’t think I’ve heard this take before. Did you read the dark disciple trilogy?

@@DLSaga Yes I did. Loved the books so much. The story was so different.

Man, I remember reading the war of souls for the first time. I was so intrigued about this "one god," and the reveal that it was Takhisis completely blew my mind. I don't how the story would hold up if I reread it, but man it was good.

Nicely done. I actually really enjoyed the War of Souls trilogy, even though they did end some really fun concepts like the Dragon Overlords and Shadow Sorcerer in a disappointing way (in my opinion). My only issue is from a gaming standpoint - the 5th Age with the Overlords and search for magic is fun to play, while the ensuing age of mortals doesn't have any hook for gamers. There's no big story hook or threat without Takhisis or the Dragon Overlords. The Minotaurs are the only existential threat but I'm guessing 99% of DL gamers play in earlier eras.

Yea I think you’re right. But there are some story points the Dark Disciple trilogy posed excite me as a DM.

Good stuff. Of all the memorable "mental images" from the books... the one that stuck with me was when Raistlin was pinned to the wall in the Abyss and gutted like a fish over and over and brought back to life... over and over.... his quest for power and his battle over Fistandandilus (to be better than him).. and Takisis was brutal.... even in the tower of high sorcery he had to kill Carmon to achieve more power. The quest for power is crazy. Just Raistlin's story line could make a good new movie... hard to pick and choose with so much story line, right. lol. The new movie "Damsel" with the dragon... perfect voice pick. Very dragon!! That could be Takisis alright, sure enough, just add a few more dragon heads and it's her. Keifer Sutherland was a super good choice for Raistlin's voice... but it doesn't have to be him...
@DLSaga6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! That image of Raistlin was incredibly powerful especially when we realize it never happened and was just made up for Palin’s test as Paladine gave Raistlin peace in death for closing the portal on Takhisis at the end of Legends.

I do enjoy The War Of Souls, but my favorite arc in it is The Minotuar Wars trilogy followed by The Knights of Solamnia. The former I think you should use in these WOS video's more often, since it reveals a lot imo leading up to establishing Ambeon.
@DLSaga4 ай бұрын
I haven’t read those yet. I can’t wait to get to them.
@househendoe75494 ай бұрын
@DLSaga wish I could read them for the first time again myself. Both trilogies really flesh out a very changed world to the one the gods left and now have to figure out to save their positions in the pantheon. Both Good and Evil go under major internal shifts in power and influence in their hierarchies. I'd argue putting the Gods in similar state they had left the mortals in. I hope you really enjoy them once you get to them. You may have to revist you're Blood Sea Isles and Solamnia videos or make sequels to them.

WAIT, TIME OUT, so is Knight of the Dark Rose and Spectre of the Black Rose considered canon? So Soth did eventually escape Sithicus (did not finish Spectre yet)?
@DLSaga6 ай бұрын
Well I don’t wanna ruin anything but…
@jamesfoster96136 ай бұрын
my understanding of the Soth-in-Ravenloft stuff is that Weiss and Hickman were not happy with it, so he was returned to Krynn for this trilogy by them so they could take that option away forever that he would be in Ravenloft.

While I (mostly) liked the War of Souls books, I was underwhelmed by the ending. While it was nice to see that Paladine was willing to put his money where his mouth was and sacrifice himself for the people of Krynn, it still felt a little anti-climatic to have the story resolved by a literal deus ex machina and, even worse, that resolution retroactively lowered the stakes from the Chronicles, Legends, and Legend of Huma since in all of those books the threat of Takhisis entering the world in her true form was considered the ultimate catastrophe that our heroes were trying to prevent, but here we learn that Takhisis entering the world is actually not that big a deal since Paladine has a trump card he can play to instantly neutralize her if that ever happens.
@DLSaga6 ай бұрын
That’s a great point. Yea, it does lessen the stakes.
@DCJMS6 ай бұрын
I don't understand hoy Gilean was unaffected by Paladine's sacrifice
@DLSaga6 ай бұрын

The War of Souls is where I sadly lost touch with DragonLance canon, at the time it was too overwhelming and I'd just started to read the 'Dragons of The Dwarven Depths' extra material books i missed out on during the Wotc 5th Age years, got through one but didn't get to go to the library anymore because of Covid, I'm waay behind on War of Souls. My knowledge extends to AD&D2e TSR era but i will admit war of souls i kind of passed on. The books got expensive and harder to find and given the amount of books and material i have already, how would i ever have time to do anything? I read up on sections of it when i need info. Even I can't read EVERY dragonlance book cover to cover these days unless it's chronicles or legends. I always suggest the first Seven books up to Summer Flame; or skip Summer Flame completely (Tanis and Tas deserved better)

Agreement. I just focus on the Age of Might and Despair. There are decades of campaign right there.
@ArtsAndTactics6 ай бұрын
Thank you for the video. I read The Chronicles as a kid and wanted to like this, but I can't follow it. The way you are presenting it can only be followed by someone who already knows the material. You're listing off characters and their actions without introducing who they are. It comes off assuming I already know them. It just doesn't work.
@DLSaga6 ай бұрын
That’s fair, and very accurate. There’s so much to this world that without a baseline knowledge there’s no way to cover anything in 10min.
@trieze906 ай бұрын
Not a popular opinion, but I really disliked this era. I am one of the few that enjoyed the 5th Age. I didn't mind seeing it end but the whole One God, repeat of the gods returning, death of Soth (awful) death of Bloodbane (lame), Silvanoshei (annoying), treatment of the Overlords (they were amazing, so interesting). Just my opinion obviously, but it wasn't for me.
@DLSaga6 ай бұрын
It’s all good. I really like hearing other’s thoughts on this stuff. Would you have liked to see any further progression with the dragon overlords or just have the books stop there?
@trieze906 ай бұрын
@@DLSaga I would have liked to see more. I don't mind the return of the gods (too much) or High sorcery. It being done in a different way would have been better. Malys and Skie were super powerful and great antagonists. They got the raw of the deal there. And I found Mina annoying. There was never any feeling of threat or that she would lose. She just kept winning and winning.
@stephenclements61586 ай бұрын
And this violent seasawing of big metaplot is why I checked out of Dragonlance. It's too much, and frankly silly. Stories need to end at some point, or else they become parodies like this.
@DLSaga6 ай бұрын
That’s fair. I like that it’s stopped after Dark Disciple, and we can do whatever we want as fans now
