@@UnclePumblechook Well, back story. ... My family business is a drag club franchise with 5 locations. We get calls daily for kids parties. When we turn them down, the KIDS are the ones who get mad. They have specific drag queens they'd like to see. Drag is popular with youth because of shows like RPDR and TikTok. It's not "thrust" upon the kids, they enjoy the subject matter. Little gay kids seek to learn about the queer community, this I am ok with as long as the subject matter is clean. You can make raunchy jokes that aren't blue.

As a gay guy I still cannot understand how this ever became a thing. I'm not a fan of drag shows so I don't go to them but there's no reason they should take place in an ADULT environment as the humour is often crass & always has some kind of sexual undertone. For the love of god, let kids be kids - there is NO justification exposing them to drag queens at all and if I were a parent, I wouldn't let me kid go anywhere near an LGB venue whatsoever. It's good that there are some drag queens who are openly vocal about how wrong this is, but it's not been enough. We shouldn't have gotten here in the first place and like the lady said from Gay against Groomers, going to school is about learning, not for teachers to be ramming this weird idealogy down kids throats and passively encouraging the kids to constantly question their gender or sexuality. They will figure that out as an ADULT. I agree 100% with the backlash but what is difficult is that some people assume that every gay or lesbian thinks like this meaning that all of the work done to make gays accepted in society is being rapidly undone. To anyone reading this, please remember that the vast majority of us are very much against this.

I’m a lifelong liberal, radical feminist atheist, supporter of LGB rights, champion of the underdog. I grew up in the 80s and 90s when lesbian and gay rights were being fought for and acceptance was growing. It’s puzzling to me why, if the point is diversity, the schools and public libraries skipped right over lesbian, gay and bi story hour and jumped directly to grown men dressed as insulting caricatures of women who usually perform in bars and 18+ venues reading to kids. Where are the drag kings? Children already have clowns. They don’t need sex clowns. And this is my opinion as someone who hung out and worked in gay bars throughout my 20s and 30s. I’ve been part of the audience cheering for the queens at drag shows - as an adult. Interesting that your “reporting” doesn’t include the footage of the extremely sexualised drag performances with children present. Unlike ReduXX, a truly feminist media outlet, you’re leaving out the unusually common incidences of men who have been contracted to present in drag to children at libraries and schools who have later been found to have a history of sexual offences as well as direct links from their social media to porn and Onlyfans accounts. Sure, you tossed in a short discussion with a rep from Gays Against Groomers (an excellent organisation), but your reporting is beyond biased. Stop portraying the advocates of child safeguarding and women’s rights as a pack of gun-toting, Trump-supporting, conservative evangelical Christians who hate homosexuality. I have devoutly religious friends who are accepting of LGB but have valid concerns about the TQ. However, the origins of opposition to the misogyny of MtF drag are with radical feminism. Janice Raymond published “The Transsexual Empire” in 1979; “The Sexual Liberals and the Attack on Feminism” was published in 1990. The women who have been working tirelessly to bring attention to this male-centred, corporate- and government-sponsored agenda (NOT grassroots) are mostly radical lesbian feminists. Since when is an old radical dyke the face of hatred in America? But you won’t cover all the stories of women’s protests against female erasure and child safeguarding. You aren’t covering how legislation is being passed worldwide to roll back women’s rights, or how the women who speak up are being mobbed, assaulted, fired, threatened, portrayed - in a desperate attempt by “progressives” to discredit us - as white supremacists, Nazis, racists, puppy-kickers and elder abusers. Instead, you’re peddling this ridiculous narrative, claiming that the rights of men in womanface are being threatened. If you could kindly point out where in the documents of the UNHRC it states that it’s a human right to be allowed to read books to or otherwise interact with other people’s children in a public place. Do you realise just how preposterous Unreported World looks? The tide has finally turned, and I am pleased that millions of people are pushing back against the gender bullshit which operates under a false pretense of “diversity, inclusion, acceptance and finding your true self.” No one requires a load of face paint, wigs, false eyelashes and exaggerated prosthetic breasts and buttocks to “be themselves.” Drag queens are an insult to women as well as a poor representation of the true diversity of the LGB community, and of the world. Where’s the trend of Buddhist story hour, Hindu story hour, Muslim story hour, Māori story hour, Cree story hour, Nigerian story hour, differently-abled story hour, braille story hour, ASL story hour, bull dyke story hour? Children are having only one brand of “diversity” shoved down their throats. That’s the opposite of diversity. I’m unsubbing until such time as the staff at Unreported World lays off the corporate narrative and resumes representing the stories of the truly unheard.

@@bobdobbs8700 My issue is rather a drag queen is inherently linked to adult entertainment. They perform in front of adult audiences in gay bars. No problem with that. There's adult entertainment in film too. I also would have an issue if they'd hold porn star story hours for kids. You could say: why is it a problem,if the porn star in her clothes reads a book for children? And if this really was just a woman reading a book, and the information that she's a porn star wasn't broadcasted, and she'd wear clothes, I wouldn't care. But if it was advertised as a porn star story hour-I would want to know what the aim was. Is it that they want to indoctrinate kids at a young age to think being a porn star is just like being for example a teacher? Same goes for drag queens. The goal is clearly to teach them queer theory- just look at the books they read, they're not your average kids books,and to sensitize them to the gay culture as a whole. @@Kalleosini ah ok I do see your point. I’m not sure how old you are, but the most recent media uproar over the objectification of women prior to the short-lived MeToo in 2018 was in the late 1990s - early 2000s, when grunge gave way to Britney Spears and the rise of third wave feminism (i.e. libfems, i.e. porn and heels and BDSM are ‘empowering’ feminists, i.e. ForMenists). However, since the Women’s Liberation Movement ramped up in the late 1960s, there has always been a (stifled) minority criticism of the objectification of women and the sexualisation of children. These are problem that men (and women) on both sides of the political aisle contribute to. Radical feminism has always known that these problems are pervasive and misleading. Julia Beck, a lesbian feminist activist, recently said “We have a responsibility to ourselves and to each other to stop painting our faces and shaving our bodies. If we stop doing it, then men will have nothing to mimic.” Scholar snd historian radical feminist Sheila Jeffreys has written the most comprehensive body of work on sex, gender, and the objectification of women - she’s still out there shredding hard and dismantling the myths which fuel gender ideology. I’m not overjoyed that men like Matt Walsh are out there pretending that their version of a woman is ideal - conservatism tends towards old-school repression of women. I have found that conservatives are far more progressive than I used to think - many were fine with LBG rights and women’s independence. The current problems arose when the neoliberal “progressives” went overboard and lost their collective mind. Because of media control, the public doesn’t know that the leading voices against gender ideology and for child safeguarding are mostly women who were lifelong liberals/leftists and are now politically homeless. More often than not, it’s lesbians middle-aged and older who critique drag and the sexualisation of kids. Conservative talking heads have taken up a radical feminist cause and tweaked it for their own purposes. Many conservatives are genuinely concerned about child safeguarding. But you’re absolutely correct - if you only listen to malestream media left or right, you don’t get the full picture.

I have been an English teacher for 16 years. I am also a gay man. I am married. The thing that people don't understand about this whole situation is that the topic of LGBTQ doesn't really come up in class. I think most of my students and their parents know that I'm gay, because I live in a small village and everybody knows everyone. But during class all we talk about is the subject at hand. I mean I'm teaching English. I'm ambivalent on this issue. If you don't want your kids to see drag, then don't take them to drag queen story hour. I don't see why the government needs to step in. At the same time, I see a lot of comments here othering drag queens or LGBTQ people... They are trying to do this, they are trying to do that, they they they... Drag queens are not they, they are us/we. I'll just keep doing my part teaching kids how to read, and so far I haven't gotten any complaints from any parents in my community. As far as I'm concerned it is students who should be at the center of this and they should be taught highly relevant skills for the world today, not be brought into political fights.

You make some good points but my question is why do gay men have to read to small children in drag in the first place??? I support LBGT rights, including gay marriage, so if a gay man REALLY wants to read stories to children then why can't he (or she in the case of a lesbian) just do it as themselves? There is something actually perverse about wanting to read stories to children dressed up as a grotesque caricature of a woman. To my way of thinking it's actually somewhat misogynistic too, the way some gay men insist on portraying and ultimately demeaning women by wearing such exaggerated female 'cosplay' outfits! Presumably when you're teaching English to your students you don't feel the need to dress up in drag?? Just reading to them, and interacting with them, is good enough. I seriously don't understand the compulsion of some drag queens to even want to read to small children, it is (whether they know it or not) introducing an element of sexuality to them at an age when it's completely inappropriate. I think drag queens, and the LBGT community that supports these readings, do themselves no favours at all and the backlash they are now facing is really of their own making.
@imanerd36

@@SenorSol I would respond by saying: 1. Many adults, including gay men, do read to children as themselves. 2. There are plenty of adults who wear costumes to read to children. There are also plenty of performers who dress up and/or wear costumes to entertain children. There is nothing inherently perverse about someone wanting to dress up or wear a costume and read to children.

Let's be honest. Makeup originated to mimic the signs of sexual arousal, reddened cheeks, lips, shining (or languid,) eyes, big or mussed hair. Of course it has evolved to enhance beauty and to convey the illusion of youth. But in certain applications it is still purposefully sexual.

We need to get our priorities straight. How is an ADULT passion important enough to be expressed in front of children??? Take your passion to the strip club maybe... what matters in school is the education and protection of children, not your ADULT PASSIONS... Can you, please, explain the logical line in brining in shooting and gun control issue when discussing drag queen's topic? If killing vs not-killing is the only relation that you can point at as an argument, then let me help you by adding more: obesity, smoking, texting when driving - they all also kill people. I truly cannot follow a logical line in bringing shooting and gun control as any sort of argument in the topic of drag queens. And I'd appreciate your explaining it to me step by step; because I failed.

Absolutely… school shootings are a very real threat children face today, in US schools, to the point where they actually have active shooter drills. Drag queens, however, pose no threat to children, especially given the fact that no child has ever been assaulted at any drag event, yet state governments are attempting to pass bills to discriminate against drag queens, while doing nothing to address what actually endangers children. It’s quite sad that you needed that explained to you.

I think it's because according to two-party political lines in which this narrative is taking place, the party saying that drag queens are dangerous but guns are not a problem in this country. I think it's drawing on the innate hypocrisy in that thinking. It's pointing out a flaw in a political platform. Issues like obesity, smoking, and texting while driving are not as highly partisan as gun control or the drag queen topic.

It's very simple. If everyone participating is 18+, well then "You do you, boo". If under 18, then this needs to be off limits. It might sound rather arbitrary during those late teenage years, but the legal system draws these lines for a reason. It's also interesting that these events are not targeting, say, 15-year-olds. It's more like 5-year-olds. That's revealing.

@@richsuga Except the laws targeting drag are so poorly worded that any kind of gender nonconformity (even as benign as Mrs Doubtfire) would be illegal (Tennessee's was so bad that a woman wearing heavy makeup deemed too heavy could be in legal trouble). Florida's "Don't Say Gay" law is so strict that an elementary teacher had state investigators sent after her for showing Strange World in a class...because one character has a gay crush. Despite all the rhetoric that the bill was only intended to prevent kids from seeing adult content in classes, I'm pretty sure a Disney movie is not literally porn. The vagueness is the point, so they can target LGBT+ people specifically without directly attacking them...however, vague sweeping laws like that are blatantly unconstitutional as they are not specifically tailored for their purpose. Thankfully, many courts are figuring this out, and a few of these laws have been overturned.

Somehow when the creepy guy in a windowless van hands out candy to kids, people can rightly identify it for what it is. When the same creep pretends to be a woman and reads to kids then suddenly the left embraces it.

Well a normal dragshow is more than inappropriate for children. Why they want to read stories for children in a costume makes not to much sense to me yet.... But tbh I can't see any harm, (no hate) but it's like a clown reading a story🤷🏻‍♂️ When I was in 4. Grade (over 10 years ago) I had a boy who came to school dressed as a girl, while all other children had "normal" costumes.... I bet the poor guy would have had a much better time if we had those drag queen story times.... Also makes me think of a boy who painted his nails around that age...
