Have you played the game? I don't know if this happend in Pravus' series but they can actually do that. When it happend ten years ago in my first game I was truly shocked.

Ten years and I still remember some situations from my first play-throughs of the base game, it was kinda shocking how serious it was with the topics. And I still admire the game for doing that, it is very rare. And I'm glad it is recognized and even awarded.

I absolutely loved This War of Mine when I was a kid, I remember that it made me aware of the horrors of war but obviously I didn't really grasp it yet. I'm very very grateful of this game and that I found it at the age I did. I don't think I would have studied more wars with the people between the conflict in mind. I don't think I would have thought of the struggles of irl people going through similar situations now if I wasn't "prepared" to, I would have been like my peers.

Few things Pravus :) 1. Game is Polish but its plot refers to the war in former Yugoslavia - currently divided into few countries in Europe. 2. Game's plot and the place is fictional but characters' names actually comes from the mentioned former Yugoslavia country. 3. The referal region of the war and Poland has a lot in common, in their languages, cultures, history etc. so some names can sound Polsih to people from other coutries. 4) Last but not least, Poland is placed in Central Europe, not Eastern. P.S. 5) This is great you play this game, especially this is still relevant, having the war where Russia with their communist North Korean friends, murder people of Ukraine. A titbit: the game has become a "set book" in Polsih schools as it tells a story of war thorugh eyes of innocent victims. The game has been recognised as highly educative for youngers, who doesn't need to see real war - let's hope they will never do - to know how bad war is and how much should be prevented. They can also train their brains by playing this great and challenging game! :) Thank you for the gameplay, Pravus! :)

It cut off your comment but the "poland is central europe" comment tickled me. We refer anything east of Germany "eastern" as that is the iron curtain. (I am from the UK btw). So yes "technically" Poland is "central" "europe" but neither of those places really exist (central or europe). Only on maps made by Europeans. (aka invested interest) Whilst I believe only active history (as its called AKA the stuff that actually happens) creates landscapes, sayings and names. Not some topographical "professional" making up terms on a map.

Which is not a personal filing, common beliefs, wishful thinking etc. This is what it is. But I understand that some facts may be different in people every day thinking. Ignore or learn something. I recommend Norman Davies books. If you want to know something more about Polish history, they are really good written :) He is Welsh. As for the iron curtain, my personal approach is, it is now a history and we should update our thinking to nowadays reality. However Central Europe as geographical region, has been defined much earlier. So, historically, geographically, and politically, before and currently Poland is in the central Europe. BUt let me enphasize, I understand your point of view, I know from where it's comming. I also was there some time ago ;)

just picked up This War of Mine a couple weeks ago attempted to do my very first run without stealing anything, had 1 person die to illness and 1 person run away in the night, and my last person barely survived the war while being deathly ill on day 45, had to trade away literally everything i owned for the meds i needed

The stack idea by the entrance is good when scavenging, but I would advise making them indoors when you can, since winter comes in, some piles on the outside tend to respawn and delete your stack. remember happened to me once before

Though the game was made by Polish devs the action actually takes place somewhere in the Balkans (I believe Kosovo situation was the inspiration?) so the names aren't Polish but they are Slavic.

I wouldn't say her triangulating stuff is concerning. I imagine if she had collaborators or people were offering her first hand knowledge/family diaries she'd know, at least vaguely, where stuff was kept. Kinda like how if things went FUBAR I'd know, generally, where things I've left at family houses could have ended up.

Kyiv. Kiev is based on Russian spelling/pronunciation and was the English usecase until war made it in poor taste. It's the same as referring to Poznań as Posen during times of war between Poland and Germany.

This War of Mine is based on the Yugoslav war specifically the bosnian independence war in 1992 and the seige of their capital by serbian forces (bosnian serbs). So they would be speaking probably serbian or some sort of arabic if they were the bosnian arab side. By the names and pictures though, they are on the serb side which is very unusual as everyone (at least in the UK) hated the serbs for unknown reasons. (IMO at least). I remember wiritng an independent paper on this as part of my A levels (your highschool) after it basically just happened. (around 98) I was marked down as the person marking it was a Croat. I was in favour of the Serbs. And if you see whats going on now in europe, you see how Milosevic was correct. Maybe not in the way he did it. But he was correct.

@@TaylorfromPapaLouie there is one slide where it talks about arabs being racist in the game, if you haven't seen it I suggest you check the gameplay, I forgot which part of the book it was.. It goes along the lines a group of ppl were trying to pass some areas but got stopped by arabs only because the group didn't look like arabs..
