From what i hear, the Challenger guy tried to at least have gaijin to look at the Chally mantlet, as it is weak and much bigger than other MBTs on top tier, so they make it stronger and make chally more competetive. But he was completly ignored, due to no documents no change, so he gave the documents. How it ended we all know.

The thing is for most of war thunder’s history we are required to bring out documentation to prove a particular point. This was fine as the majority of content within war thunder was about aircraft no longer in service and since been declassified. The issue will continue to grow because this culture will spread into much more modern vehicles that are still classified.

It's also made worse by fact that almost all of the "leaks" I've seen... aren't actually classified or restricted information. It's information that's already been known about in wonk/OSINT circles and the players, this guy who made this video and most people just assume that since it's not on Wikipedia that it must mean it's classified. To put this in perspective: OSINT guys (before it even existed or had a name, actually) in the early 2000s were able to deduce an accurate RCS value for the F-117 years before its actual RCS value was *_actually_* released. Yet people think "Oh, no. No, no, nononono. Stealth = Classified. No touch. Completely unknown mystery." Well... No. You can't really classify math and looking at a vehicle in public... Then again, this is how we get people freaking out about the Leclerc "leak" of its turret transverse speed when... that's a known thing and has been for decades. Not classified. Not sensitive. People need to stop pretending otherwise. Now, granted, I'm not aware of every single WT leak that's happened... but I'm not aware of any leaks that weren't something already known in defense wonk/OSINT circles. Absolutely nothing. And, again, just because you and everyone's brother know about it and it isn't on Wikipedia doesn't make it classified or restricted information.

I havent played War Thunder in a long time, and I for sure havent played the top tier so much, if not at all. But I also wonder if it is confirmation bias, or what it is called, is in play too. Like, let us say a crew of a Challenger tank is playing War Thunder and choosing a Challenger tank. He would think that the model they using is off, as he might think that Challenger is the best MBT in the world (Out of the others MBTs that we currently know/have) I can understand that person being frustrating and beginning to go to the forums to get it to change. Like we seeing now. I for once a always had the idea that Leopard 2 is the best MBT there is, as out of what I had read, it seems to do well in my head battle theory. But with the years I grow to accept that I could be wrong, and instead saying that Leopard 2 is one of the better ones, or at least up there. The truth is, Leopard 2 havent been really combat tested against other tanks, or what it was designed to face. I remember I had read somewhere about a test they did during the Cold War. I cant remember if it was Leopard 1 or 2, but in a battle against the russian T-90, the Leopard would lose. The test showed that the T-90s would be able to sit and pick the Leopards off one by one, before the Leopards got into range. It is just one of many informations to find on the internet which we wouldnt be really sure on. To be honest, I playing, now and then, a game called Armour Warfare. Basically World of Tanks with modern tank skin on. And I had accpeted the balanced they had down to those modern tanks. But it is still fun to play with the new and futuristic AFVs, and to see who is a better driver of a said AFVs to out smart the other. But there is alot of ATGMs flying around XD Does making me happy to have hard kill APS, just making sure that I can get a second chance to live and pull back

The truth is that this has been the nature of the WarThunder forums since their very inception. I was very active on the forums in 2013 and 2014 and even back then players went to incredible lengths to find the slightest sliver of historical documents about vehicles in the game to win arguments or force gaijin into improving their models. I specifically remember one person who specifically requested access to the japanese national archives and translated a bunch of documents to help Gaijin model the Japanese techtree properly. The only difference is that the game had WW2 and Korean war vehicles back then which have been fully declassified. People who have access to these documents for newer vehicles do play the game and they will continue to leak them, as they have done before

I think this started because if i remember correctly, gaijin will not change anything if you dont have some sort of document. This is fine in the old days when you need documents/proof about planes like p40, p38 and tank like panzer 4 and shermans, but now yeah....that happens.

It would have been nice if they had even accepted valid sources back for WW2 vehicles, where 'some sources were better than others', and they would take OBVIOUS propaganda sources as higher validity than more detailed documents that were from a different country. There was also that silly BS they pulled of 'well internal documents say otherwise' and then refusing to show said documents. Gaijin's own practices have always been complete stupidity with regards to balancing and modeling based on available data.

War Thunder already has a wide variety of vehicles from early world war 2 to middle cold war that are already considered just fine to have been left on, and are preferred by a decently large section of the community. The people who play the game have by and large played through most of the middle already and have spent a large amount of time and money on that period of gameplay. It is by far the section with the most variety in gameplay, and can easily support the playerbase. There are still many opportunities for added vehicles in that period, and increased balancing with them, to make the game playable for years. Assuming that war thunders players will leave after they are done grinding is hilariously illogical at best, outright presumptious at worst. Several others and I play war thunder for the experience of playing specific vehicles, like the T-54 or the M48, and while at times we play the Abrams and T-72s, we also play Tiger Is and the different Sherman variants.

If I remember correctly, the first major leak on WT forum was about 125-II APFSDS for ZTZ-96A, which is an outdated round but still partly in service. That was before the leaks of Challenger 2, Leclerc and a second leak on some Chinese exported version APFSDS. Also recently there is a leak about F-16 and AH-64 (and looks like some of the later versions judging by the title), but not on WT site.

I feel like the problem is that Gaijin's standards for taking suggestions into consideration basically require that you present official documentation, even though most documentation regarding for modern vehicles is classified. They won't take video, photographs, documentation from outside sources, physical measurements in the field, and scientific/mathematical models seriously, regardless of their refutability. Gaijin will not consider any speculative information, even though many of the attributes for the modern vehicles that Gaijin implements is derived from their own speculation.

Nowadays of course they don't care about anything they said in the past, because giving you the ability to buy top tier are big revenues for them, and the most they take from you, will be better, as well even you are still suffering in every match because of awful balancing, spawn shooting, etc. I better play in low tiers because of how more fun it is (and because repairs in even tier IV are expensive) but still it's quite hard to get into battle sometimes

And the amusing thing is, JSC Sukhoi couldn't care less about it (maybe after the Chinese attempt of reverse-engineering the SU-27 for their own production as Shenyang J-11 and even offered it as competing design for export to challenge the SU-27 market made them stop caring for the SU-27 classified status)

Maybe we wouldn't see THAT many leaks if Gajin didn't assume a lazy stance of "if you want something in a vehicle changed, prove it with a verified source". Gajin, what about getting shit right the first or at least second time around while doing solid research yourself instead of trying to rely on your playerbase (while openly antagonizing and ignoring us). Like, they're so ambigous. When they got their hands on the chinese APFSDS data they applied them into the game, but when it went out of hand they're NOW suddenly trying to wash their hands. I am strictly against leaking classified information, but Gajin is responsible for creating the environment where people can feel tempted to leak such info.

there are multiple cases of gaijin ignoring non-classified documentation too. for example some of the old swedish airplanes (a21 etc) are worse in war thunder than irl, and gaijin knows about it because they clearly used some of the official documentation and training manuals to model some of the things with the planes (their weaknesses for example) but they just ignored their strengths. so in some cases even with historical planes old enough to not be classified or restricted information gaijin still ignores reality for what i can only guess is balancing concerns. for example the peace time dive speed on some swedish historical planes (meaning the speed which didnt damage the airframe at all) is higher than the in-game wingrip speed. the wartime acceptable dive speed (stress on frame, but with maintenance after sorties itll be fine) can be wrong in the 3 digits compared to wingrip speed in WT. it feels dumb af to have planes that my relatives literally flew faster IRL rip into shit in a videogame at speeds 3 digits lower than they literally went in training.

@Tankenstein I live practically down the road from the airport that F-4 is at. I went to the closest hanger office to ask why there was a F-4 sitting on the ramp of the French Valley Airport. The girl behind the desk informed me that it was for sale and the guy that had been restoring it was on vacation, but I could go check it out. She gave me the pedestrian gate code and I walked out to it. It is in very good condition...minus the engines. It's pretty impressive to see close up.

The problem with Gaijin being able to balance stuff with guesses is that they've shown that this usually means buffing russian stuff while keeping other things nerfed. So it is entirely possible that in the future they'll make something like F-35 subsonic because "haha you cant disprove it without documents" while making Su-57 go Mach 10 because you can't prove that it CANNOT go Mach 10. Still, leaking classified documents is stupid and you should not give in to the provocations of the developers, however biased they might be. Real life is more important than a game.

I was all for modern vehicles but when they implemented them in the way we see it now, its not fun, like I want to play in a King tiger and not face HeatFS or any modern IFV's but I was told to get good everytime I pointed it out or wanted to live out a 'Nazi' dream like what... I just want Ww2 tanks and even jets to face ww2 jets.. Maus was easily counterable, called CAS. But the game's community is a mess.

the issue is the standard of documents required to fix issues because gaijin does not accept physics calculations, they ask for first and second hand sources, and sometimes they accept third hand source, with more recent vehicles they need to loosen the standards

Hot take: The War Thunder Leaks work like Coups, one of the biggest factors in having one happen is past occurrences. Like, yeah the argument of needing citations to make changes possible is true and more modern vehicles fall under classified data, but that has to do with the Devs. I'm thinking in terms of community behavior, with no relation to whatever the snail execs think or do. The leaks of classified manuals and specs are only going to increase because it's becoming normalized, validated, accepted. We had it once, then twice, now a whole bunch more times, this is going to continue. The Snail can ban people, they can close the official forums, they can so heavily gag their Discord servers into stasis, but so long as the community of War Thunder exists and interacts with each other on platforms Gaijin don't control, this will continue. The tie of balance changes to official documentation gives an incentive to this other simulator or vehicle combat games don't have, but I think we've past the point where the Snail can nip this in the bud. The cycle sustains itself now. Until Uncle Sam brings down the hammer.

part of the problem is that when players make bug reports on vehicles not working correctly (such as the HSTVL having too slow a fire rate and an underperforming round) Gaijin asks for material to back up the claim. When declassified information is provided, Gaijin says that the information is not sufficient to make a change. Therefore, players make bug reports with more and more legitimate information until they release something classified. Example: 11:00 - 13:01 in the linked video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZiogXeuYplgqM0) discusses a series of bug reports made with legitimate, unclassified information about XM885 (HSTVL APFSDS) which Gaijin refuses to take action on.

Gaijin should just stop adding vehicles that are OR can be STILL IN USE… Everyone can agree with me that there is still more to do with this game. I mean, as long as it's balanced across countries (not leaking information only about western, only about Chinese, only about Russian vehicles), and is staying within the tiers where equivalent weapons systems exist on all sides, I feel like it doesn't balance against any real life military more than any other. What I would say would be a problem is if systems that are clearly superior for one side begin getting leaked. Like, there would as far as I know be no way to balance an NGAD or Armata leak with leaks from other countries because these are systems without proper equivalents and a leak that effects cutting edge military equipment with no equivalent actually alters the balance of military power and procurement in a directional way.

One idea I had is that, instead of introducing increasingly modern equipment, Gaijin should start introducing WW1 and interwar equipment. They also need an update in which they solely focus on optimization, graphical improvements, **map refinement**, equipment refinement, game mechanic refinement, etc. rather than introducing new vehicles. I actually just returned to WT after a four year hiatus.. and the reason was due to the leaks. I thought it was just a little hilarious. The game is much different than it used to be, and I constantly find myself missing how the game used to feel. There are ways of returning to that feeling, but it’ll take an amount of effort that Gaijin will never allocate resources to since they’d rather focus on shifting the towards an arcade feel. Even RB battles feel arcade-like now. Simulator battles have been abandoned. TL;DR - WT isn’t the same

no its not.... USA (aviation only) is just unplayable past 3.0 since bombers are a 1 hit kill and world famous and VERY capable aircraft like the P-47 and P-51s are underpowered and have no armor when they were capable of bomber escort and taking ABSURD punishment and still fly.

@@aurorathearcticwolf4243 Not accurate. Early P-47s kinda suck, but American planes from 3.0 plus are remarkably fast, compared to their BR counterparts from other nations. US air isnt easy to play, but its not like grinding swedish air either. You just have to use US planes properly because 5.7 planes get particularly stupid, and then US gets bad at around 10.0, and then becomes ridiculous at 11.7

I can see a feedback loop forming: Gaijin adds a new vehicle -> people who serve on that vehicle irl pick the game up because they want to see how it compares-> grind through the tech tree to hit top tier-> "hey this *insert detail* isn't right, I should show them this document that says otherwise" -> Profit??? It's probably only going to be a small minority of people who are both determined enough to grind through the whole tech tree and stupid enough to screw themselves over for life by leaking documents but with a growing playerbase it's innevitable.

While the leaks happening over an argument about a video game are funny, that doesn’t mean that the leaks are harmless. I’ve heard in some discords that the Su-35 already had leaked documents in a war thunder discord. What if the leaks go beyond flight manuals to classified information about features of the vehicle meant to keep the people inside it alive. For example classified documents on the stealth technology of the F-22 or F-35. That puts the lives of those pilots at jeopardy as the people trying to shoot them down would now know potential ways they could exploit weaknesses or uncertainties in the technology.

As I said it before... Gaijin shouldn't get into any kind of troubles, specialy if they have told everyone about their policies regarding leaked secret documents... The only country that I feel might go all the way to ban the game is China, but only them. Now, I think Gaijin should double their efforts by investing on advertisements about not supporting leaks and that they will be obligated to report the users to the different goverments, while not been able to use any of those documents... At the end of the day, these people should be held responsible for their actions, specialy if they put other peoples life in danger by leaking secret stuff... My big takeaway is that people really need to get on top of their document handling processes and vetting because you have to be pretty thick to risk prison or worse for a videogame. Even DCS, a much more serious simulator openly say they bake in a fudge factor into their products intentionally with aircraft still in service so it can't be genuinely used as a way to figure out how to defeat them. I personally wouldn't want an in service aircraft to be absolutely accurate. Close enough to be extremely immersive, sure. That last 10% or so is easily surmountable by skill anyway.
