This is pretty much it. I played through the 10.2 story arc recently, and while I generally thought the overall story itself was pretty good for WoW (it wasn't an Argus by any stretch of the imagination, but it wasn't bad), the actual details of playing through it were murky, annoying, and laughable. For instance, Fyrakk is suffering the Jailer syndrome hardcore as it's never explained WHY he turns into just another boring Saturday morning cartoon villain. Even during one cut scene, Alexstrasza says, "You used to believe in something, and now you just fight for power!" And Fyrakk just laughs and says, "Yes." That's probably the single stupidest exchange in the whole expansion, because, once again, it was a perfect opportunity to explain at least a LITTLE of the villain's motivations... but nope. Don't think about it. Plus, the overall questing in 10.2 was just... boring and monotonous. A procession of "fill bar", "kill X", and "find Y" quests with no variety at all. So, good overall story. Absolutely awful story progression and exposition that felt like something out of a pay to win Korean MMO.

I’m really excited but also very sad about the World Soul Saga. I’m really excited because they have a three-expansion plan, which is amazing! The story is compelling, the theme is enticing, and I truly can’t wait to jump into the War Within. I’m sad though because this truly feels like the end of World of Warcraft as we know it. With Illidan and Arthas’ arcs over, the titans and the mysteries surrounding them, Azeroth and Elune were really all that remained from the original WoW world. With this Saga, a lot of mysteries are gonna be answered (which isn’t always a good idea, some things are more interesting when not fully understood), the titans are gonna die, we’ll meet Azeroth in some manner and therefore will probably start to uncover once and for all what Azeroth is.

Every ending is a new beginning. We are uncovering old mysteries such as Azeroth and Elune, but we have new heroes such as Arator (Alleria's and Tyrion's son), the Arathi humans, and a renewed set of dragon aspects. We have new enemies, such as Xal'atath, the nerubians, and all the cosmic forces (including the light) can be seen as enemies trying to control us. And the prospect of going back to Northrend, seeing Arathi humans, etc, can mean we could retcon the entire Shadowlands and see a return or Arthas or the Arator dynasty.

Yeah, he was actually mustache-twirling evil because the universe in his image is better than the coming evil, which is apparently somehow even worse than the Void Lords. Perhaps he was speaking about them and their penchant for evil and insanity but it felt like he was talking about yet another BIG BAD that is on the horizon. This is why I said that the Burning Crusade and Sargeras should never be defeated because you then have to keep creating new Big Bads who are somehow worse and more evil than the last one, and it gets a bit ridiculous.
@graddeos5 ай бұрын
@@EatTheMarxists Well, we always knew that Legion and Sargeras werent the biggest of evils anyway. The Void Lords have always been the endgame when it comes to the big bads. And i ve predicted for years now that Sargeras will return to aid us against the Void in the ultimate War. He will use Illidan's body as a vessel. That was Sargeras' goal from the start. To stop the Void from conquering titan-soul worlds and eventually defeat them. Illidan staying behind to "guard" Sargeras was so forced. Blizzard wanted to remove Illidan from the lore because hes too powerful and would cause problems in BFA if he chose sides, and they also needed an easy way to bring Sargeras into Azeroth when the time was right.

What if Xalatath is a future version of Alleria, where the Void has fully taken control over her, and she could exist outside of time (similar to how Alleria and Turalyon fought Demons for 1000 years despite it being only 24 years on Azeroth). Maybe she isn't strong enough to outright conquer Azeroth, but needs to slowly shape a future that allows the Void to eventually win. It's a contrivance, but it's plausible with current WoW lore.
@EatTheMarxists5 ай бұрын
That is the most-likely explanation for Xal, honestly. It was originally believed that she was like a claw or some part of an Old God but that was speculation and kinda silly. I think the biggest threat to the WoW universe is any power being on top, light, void, death, etc. And that claiming Azeroth is the way to victory. That in the end, we learn its a combination of all elements being the key. The same as we always are. Azeroth is everything, we all use all the powers. Demon hunters use chaos, priests void and light, shamans use nature and fire, druids use life, etc etc. I think all of the apocolypse predictions by certain entities were from the perspective of their certain domains. Jailer was scared of something, that mightve been another power winning over azeroth. Which is why he had to claim it for himself, for death. Also having a tree made out of both death and life is a great balance piece for azeroth's power.

The whole using the void against the void thing did not start with Alleria and her tutor. The Legion can be seen actively using the void everytime and it even stands to reason they are the best weapon against the void because they are fel corrupted. Thus my hope is that we may see Sargeras turn to our side. Remember he did what he did out of desperation, not mere malice. Maybe seeing all this he will change his stance on Azeroth.
@graddeos7 ай бұрын
I ve been saying that for years. Sargeras created the Legion to battle the void and stop it from infecting planets and he was using the Void against the Void itself. He didnt only have demons in his army. He had Void beings too. Voidwalkers, Voidwraiths etc. And his story Arc is not over from his perspective. It is over from ours. We defeated him and saved our planet while Illidan stayed to guard his prison. But from his perspective he hasnt achieved his goal which is to defeat the Void. I am 100% sure Sargeras will return in the Worldsoul Saga, but since hes a massive titan unable to physically enter Azeroth, he will ally with Illidan and use his body as a vessel. That way we will have both Illidan and Sargeras return into the fold and assist us in the Great War.
@EatTheMarxists5 ай бұрын
No, Sargeras has been completely corrupted by Fel and has turned truly evil. He didn’t start out that way of course, but his corruption is why his own Titan skin tore open and revealed, as Blizzard puts it, the fury and madness inside. Could the other Titans somehow rehabilitate Sargeras? It’s possible, but it would be stupid. He’s far better as a villain, and I fully expect him to somehow kill his fellow titans again, although for good this time, and then possess Illidan’s body so he can return to Azeroth and pretend to be him while he gathers up the currently-scattered forces of his Burning Legion. We killed his top two Generals and helped imprison him, but his Burning Legion is still alive and well.

As much as I want to pick retail up again, it's just way too convoluted to even start up again. Overly complicated builds and rotations, mythic + drama and toxicity, needing more and more addons just to raid or pvp, it's just not worth picking back up again.

My guy I was burnt out of WoW after Cata and was hearbroken by BFA... Buuuut I still have a soft spot for Warcraft and its lore. Part of me longs for the day where I could zone out and get lost in Azeroth for hours. Mainline ttrpg would be dope.

I am super hyped for this. I hope we, as players, discover that most of the antagonists we defeated in the past were actually 'good' guys. Woopsie.

Given how Dragonflight ended on a whimper, I would not get my hopes up for this.

Dragonflight is literally setting up for this saga at the end, that was the entire point of the ending... we also have more patches coming with more story.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if Arathi would join the Horde, having ancestral connections with Thalassian Elves, aka Blood Elves now. Then Alliance could finally get hands on the proper High Elves and we would sort of have a trade between two major races in factions.

If Xal’atath really was a Fifth Old God who was consumed by the others, then collecting their blood certainly sounds like something that could be intended to return her power. Their blood may contain her essence, and she needs the blood of all four to be reborn. That’s why she helped us kill N’Zoth.

If the Titans all turn out to be evil and we encounter them again (which we almost certainly will at some point) I don't see how they wouldn't absolutely smoke us. Canonically I believe Legion was the strongest our characters ever were by a HUGE margin and even then without direct buffs from the titans we would have been screwed several times over. There's also the fact that some of the strongest enemies we've ever faced, the Old Gods, were literal fodder to the Titans and could be dealt with by them like pulling out a tick. With all that in mind I don't think evil Titans is the direction things will go

Azeroth: "Thank you for dealing with the old god i had in my wisdom tooth. I'm going to leave the planet now, so you guys run this shit now" Just so done with world soul cosmic shit that i want something like this at the end of it so we can get back to the WORLD of azeroth and not cosmic powers shit.

That Naru crystal looks like the tip of a blade.... Early Sargaeras was charged by the pantheon to uproot old gods from worlds, though he eventually decided extreme measures must be taken... Plus the Fel is closer to the light than its counterpart, the arcane... Thrall: "that sword was aimed at something" further below is the nerubian kingdom... With all the plot twists, I wouldn't be surprised if they make sargaeras' final act. an act out of duty, when he stabbed azeroth Just saying...

Honestly I could care less where the story goes AS LONG as i get a clear villain that doesnt show up get stomped and goes away. I want a "Mario Bowser" like villain that keeps finding new ways to make things difficult for us and other than side plots, our main goal is always to defeat them. This game needs a Ganon, a Bowser, a Dr. Eggman/ Robotnik, a Joker, a Ganondorf, a Lex Luthor... Give me someone who when they show up I instantly go HIM AGAIN! GET HIM!

Isle of Dorn? Did Rogal Dorn built that island and named it after himself? Well damn. Now I wish the Imperium performed an Exterminatus on Azeroth and be rid of WoW.

I leveled my main in DF and that was it. Heared that it was a good expansion. Felt like it but was not my style and quite too much to do. I‘m an old school vanilla gamer and played classic until BC. The new story feels generic and less epic. I have hope for the new Saga to be more back to the roots and epic and in a way grounded with more intriguing characters! I want the old heros back and arcs finishing at them. I preordered it and I’m exited to see Warcraft again.

My guess is that the Titans are normally born on dead worlds or being born destroys their worlds. Therfore the titans imprisoned Azeroth so we wouldn't die and we will have to kill her to keep her from erupting forth and destroying us.

For me, it's sounds awesome. I just hope they throw away this disney like style, and implement more darkness, and more despair to see in the new zones, to create an atmosphere it's an actual world of war and conflict, and gore, ambitions, and not just a disney tale, where we as protagonists are like half-gods. I liked what they did in the vanilla. Because retail now kinda feels like it's builded for 10 year olds, though the majority of players are above 18...
