This is how you make a cover song your own! The pressure to re-imagine such an iconic song, for the band that wrote it originally had to be insane!

The video was done during the pandemic & Alessia is Canadian. So Alessia filmed in Canada & DPA took that video & filmed on location in Monterrey with Alessia projected on the wall.

Yeah, while I do like the fact that they had the strings on stage at The Pepsi Center, I actually prefer the Teatro Metropolitan version of Enter Sandman. When it's just DPA playing, you can clearly hear all the changes they did to the song, that turned it, in my opinion, into a TW original. It sounds like it would have, if they wrote it, and Metallica's version never existed.

Hey Jorvik, Nice reaction. Of course no one complains about you pausing because you actually have something interesting to say. That's what we're here for. Scanning down the commenters so far after an hour, it's safe to say we all watched these videos 100+ times. Tiny trivia, this place was infested with bats, which makes the vibe even cooler. Early in the video in one of the shots where Alessia is projected (just before it cuts to that aerial shot) you can see a bat fly over Alessia's head. It goes quick and the bat is tiny but it's just a little fun thing. Thanks, and I'm guessing Creep. You'll never be disappointed with these amazing sisters, either together or solo.

It was also infested with cockroaches which Pau does not like yet she was barefoot in the Prayer part which made her uneasy with so many roaches scuttling about.

Pau's good rhythm is kind of what started this, really. When they got into the "Rock Star" video game, their father observed that she in particular was very good at it using the little "drum pad" controller. So he asked her if she's like to play real drums. The hardest part was finding someone willing to teach a tiny seven-year-old (Pau says, "I looked like a toddler!!!"). As a rather film-creation-obsessed person myself, I'm always happy to hear your thoughts on that aspect - especially on, of course, OMVs. Absolutely nothing wrong with that IMHO. In this instance, as others have noted the collaborators were separated by pandemic restrictions, so Alessia gets to be a projection. She was the artist to whom _Metallica_ actually extended the invitation to participate in the _Blacklist_ charity 30th Anniversary album first. However, she's a pop singer and really had no idea where to go with this request - she was utterly unfamiliar with the genera, really... however, she is under the same overarching label collective (UMG) as _The Warning_ so someone at UMG (someone else here probably knows who; there are so many labels under that umbrella it's insane) observed that she could do worse than hooking up with the ladies from Monterrey... after all, they gained initial attention world-wide with the first "viral video" you reacted to. It was a time-crunch situation. The recordings needed to be submitted in approximately 10 days to make the "press date". So, after a flurry of phone calls and video chats, the two collaborators A)agreed to collaborate, B)got _Metallica's_ approval, and C)created the arrangement musically... almost inhumanly fast. Then sketched out and designed the video. Alessia's team filmed her part, sent it over the internet to the Warning video team, who gathered at a filthy and stinky bat-infested abandoned textile factory on the outskirts of Monterrey. The result of this is what you see here, and yes, I think it's better than the original. Not that I was ever a big _Metallica_ fan either. _Iron Maiden_ was more my style. 😋

9:42 Even though there’s no real connection, in the shot at the beginning of the Blacklist version video, Ale’s tall, thin silhouette with the tiny bit of flyaway hair reminds me of the comic book Sandman - Dream of the Endless. When The Warning performs the Blacklist version live, Dany does all the lead vocals, but they have Alessia’s “Whooaa-oooo”s on a backing track, and they do give her credit. I think they performed together with Alessia Cara just one time, in LA. Also, for all the live performances of the Blacklist version that I’ve seen, Dany’s used a Gibson Explorer that was given to her by Lzzy Hale, during a tour when The Warning was opening for Halestorm. (You can find video of the actual handoff, onstage in the middle of a concert.)

TW MV’s always have an aesthetic, Choke, Materio & Evolve from the Error album are an affordable great looking production style, where as the songs from KMF have more of a we have a budget narrative approach, Pau directed one of them. Very talented women!

Metallica asked over 50 artists from all different genres to perform a cover of any of their songs from their Black album for their charity release of the BlackList Album, they wanted the artists to make the song their own and they could do anything they liked just so long as they did not change the lyrics. Alessia Cara was first asked but she wasn't sure if she could do it justice, so someone that represents both Alessia and The Warning asked Metallica if they could collaborate with The Warning and they said yes. Trouble was they only had 10 days in which to do it, Alessia did her parts in Canada and The Warning in Mexico during the lockdown. The Warning were also the only ones to do a music video for their cover, at the time. There are some beautiful full colour shots in the behind the scenes video; the place was an old abandoned textile factory and it is really a lovely green grassed area on the outside. Alessia and The Warning did an amazing job turning an iconic well known track into something completely new and fresh, yet retaining the core of what made the song so iconic in the first place. Since the re-imagined version's creation, The Warning have continued to evolve the song more and more, their live performance at Teatro Metropolitan is harder, more gritty, but they stepped it up even more with their performance at the Pepsi Center in which they added a string orchestral part to the song that gave it a new level of achievement.

The Warning’s reimagining of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” for the Blacklist album was an intense, creative whirlwind. Alessia Cara was initially approached by Metallica to participate in the project, but as a pop singer unfamiliar with rock, she wasn’t sure how to approach it. After Metallica approved, Chris Smith, her international manager, reached out to his other clients, The Warning, to propose a collaboration. The band eagerly accepted, learning they had just one week to complete the track. Producer Matt Squire was brought on board, flying to Monterrey the next day to help blend Alessia’s pop sensibilities with The Warning’s rock foundation into a bold reinterpretation. The Warning followed Metallica’s advice to participating artists: “Pick a song. Do what you want with it. If you want to play it backwards or turn it on its head, we respect and appreciate it.” They stripped “Enter Sandman” to its core melody, removed the iconic riff, and emphasized a haunting “Hush Little Baby” section. Alessia’s harmonies added depth, and her “whoa, whoa” vocals remain in the live backing track to this day. Creating the music video added another layer of complexity. Alessia’s footage, recorded separately due to COVID-19 restrictions, was creatively integrated into the final cut by The Warning’s team. With little time to prepare, the band scrambled to finalize outfits and locations, managing to produce a polished video that matched the energy of their cover. Despite the chaos, the final product earned high praise from Metallica and fans alike, cementing the project as a milestone for The Warning. For the band, it wasn’t just a cover-it was a defining moment that honored their roots while showcasing their growth as artists.

Dany spent as much time on her “James-face” as she did on the song (more than, if you ask her sisters😂). But that work has more than paid off in spades. So much so that it’s now it’s just “Dany-face”🤘🤘

Yes, Pau is the one doing the prayer lines in the second video, not Ale. In the live version they do now, Dany speaks the lines. Kirk Hammett commented about their first video, saying "The drummer kicks maximum ass." Metallica offered the second cover to Alessia Cara, a Canadian Pop singer. She was not comfortable in the genre but both she and The Warning share the same international management team. They suggested she collaborate with TW based on the band's history with the song. They recorded this during the Covid lockdowns, which explains the projected image of Alessia on the walls. The studio recording was made remotely with TW being in Monterrey, Mexico, and Alessia being in Toronto. They interacted in creating the arrangement over Zoom. And they had ten days to accomplish the rearrangement and recording. As TW had just wrapped up working with award-winning producer David Bendeth on the sessions that would become their Error album, David also did the mixing and mastering of the new version of Enter Sandman. It was submitted to Metallica and the song appears on their Blacklist album. The OMV was show at a historical abandoned historic textile factory near Monterrey. Since the band was still under the travel and distancing restrictions for Covid, there was a minimum number of people used in the recording process.
