The US seems to be the only country sleeping on The Warning. They are a much bigger band internationally than they are here in the US, for now. Considering they just played very good time slots for both Wacken and Pol’and’Rocks, 2 of the biggest festivals in the world, I’d say they are a “thing”. Their first “single” off their 4th album Keep Me Fed, S!CK, made the Top 10 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart and Hell You Call a Dream either debuted or entered the Top 40 in its 2nd week. They also had a hit single in Canada with the song Money. KMF also debuted as #1 album on one of the British charts. They are touring and playing festivals in the US for the rest of the summer then touring with Halestorm and Evanescence in Canada this fall. Who knows, maybe another VMA appearance next month? They were MTV’s Push Artists for July.

I think you are right about the high-hat sounds you mentioned. They can be heard in the live version too, albeit much softer, and you can see that Pau isn't playing them. So they are part of the click track that orchestrates the show. I don't say that to throw shade. It's a 3 piece band, so they need to fill out, and a backing track is part of that. Also, they are more than just musicians, they are complete nerds when it comes to the tech side of their craft, so the overall production is IMO part of what makes them special.

The biggest difference between this version (and the official version commissioned by Metallica) is that the original viral video was a straight cover. Your chat missed the point of the rearranged version of ES. It was for the Metallica Blacklist charity album celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Black album. 53 artists were invited to choose a song and arrange it however they wanted. Just don't change the lyrics. This was Alessia's and The Warning's contribution to that project. The producer for their version was Matt Squire and producer David Bendeth mixed it, as Matt had a prior commitment and had to leave before he could mix it himself. David Bendeth was the producer for The Warning's "Error" album.

Metallica asked The Warning to remake the song. Miley Cyrus has her own version of Enter Sandman. I think at least five other artists have Enter Sandman’s versions and other artists have other songs. They have Juanes, which I believe he is a Spanish singer, The Hu, Mongolian band, country I think, I’ve only listen to The Warning’s version. For those people that say that is sacrilegious to change the original, you must remember that this was Metallica’s idea. I wouldn’t call The Warning’s a cover but a rendition and the cover they released to KZbin in 2014 was pretty good for ages 9 thru 14 and they only had one guitar, whereas Metallica has 2 guitars. Metallica to me were really good the early years once they started to change the lineup. They seized to be a top tier band!

For the Metallica Blacklist album with 53 artist doing their own rendition of a song from the Black Album the question was asked to Alessia Cara if she wanted to contribute on the album and she is on the same agency as TW and someone suggested to Alessia Cara a cooperation with TW. The rest is history as they say. From Metallica’s point of view in an interview with Rolling Stone “We said, ‘Pick a song. Do what you want with it. If you want to play it backwards or turn it on its head, we respect and appreciate it.’ ” -Lars Ulrich

Hey AR! You really should check out the official music video for this. This version was made for the Metallica Blacklist Album. It is an album for charity celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Black Album. 53 different artists were invited to do covers of their favorite song from the album in their own style. Metallica's instructions were to turn it upside down and inside out, but don't change the lyrics. Metallica asked Alessia Cara (Grammy-Winning Canadian pop singer/songwriter), and she shares the same international management firm as The Warning, and they suggested the collaboration. This was during Covid, so Alessia was working from Toronto and Producer Matt Squire went to Monterrey, MX to work with The Warning and work with Alessia via Zoom. They did this all in 8 days to meet the publishing deadline. Absolutely astonishing! BTW, since this album was done for charity, it will not be blocked if you react to the official video.

Alessia Cara is much "bigger" than The Warning, but not a heavy rock artist, so the management looped in The Warning. In the studio version, AC's vocals are most present in the first half, then the vocals transition to Dany, with AC singing the ah-ah's. Live, TW play AC's vocals as a backing track. They always say her name when introducing the song. There's a fan video of AC singing this song with TW at a famous LA club. It's a bit erratic and lotsa fun.

I NOW prefer this version to Metallicas, mainly because over the last 30+years we've heard the original so many times, often over played on local radio stations. So this version is a breath of fresh air. Sure it was Alisia who was invited to the Blacklist album BUT it was the mind of Pau who came up with the format. and saying so I prefer the studio as well as Pau saying the prayer is more haunting and fitting. And then the last 30 seconds is a nod to the original like saying SEE we COULD have done a note for note cover
