What attracted me to Dany's vocals was how unaffected, unembellished they are. Straight forward, powerful, and somewhat raw. I even liked her vocals in her earlier songs when it was really raw and sometimes strained. It was still real. Best description I've heard is that her voice is "imperfectly perfect" for rock.

So well stated Professor G. You nailed it. Watching Dany in her intimate IG midnight Dany Day concerts really brings to life the range Dany has and the emotional connection she has with both the song she is singing and the listener. They are absolutely authentic and it is part of what draws people to them.

Unaffected is exactly what I’m interested in. It seems like everyone who wants to be a singer thinks that wailing a bunch of pentatonic blues licks is what makes them a great vocalist. (Look at any American Idol audition). Connecting with the listener is what matters. Bring meaning to the lyrics, understand what you are singing about. This is what matters.

Do they deserve money? Absolutely IMHO, but that's not what's driving them. To paraphrase an interaction with a previous label trying to sign them years ago, they were asked if they wanted to play in front of crowds of 10,000 if they signed or 100 if they remained independent. They answered 100 because they would be doing it on their own terms. Heavily paraphrased but you get the idea. You should watch their "The Warning - MAYDAY IN THE MAKING" videos, 5 total so far. Here's the playlist from their channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipqVp6CPaNymnbs And for more backstory, there was a documentary recently released: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWjMgnpmqsxnfqs Edit: While the making of videos don't really have any spoilers for you, the documentary does. One song that gets a lot of play late in the documentary is their Spanish language song from the Mayday EP called Martirio. You might want to do a reaction to that one before watching the doc. Anything else played in the doc is too short to be much of a spoiler. Martirio => kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYOkZKGDr6tmZ68

They grew up watching classic rock music videos and concerts so yes, they have deep roots in the 1970s/'80s. They add varying amounts of grunge, punk, and even (so they say) elements of k-pop. The lyrics are never an unending series of "oh, baby", they are always meaningful. Oh, and if you haven't caught it yet, their command of English exceeds the average native speaker: "rapacity" in this song, for example.

Enjoyed your reaction and analysis. It’s interesting that you mention how comfortable they look on stage in front of 55,000 people. They released a BTS video where Pau said she felt like she was going to throw up before going on stage, and Dany looked very nervous, meanwhile 17 year old Ale appeared to be helping to calm them down. As soon as they start playing though, you can’t tell they’re nervous at all. Its interesting that you made the comment 'this isn't a song i would skip when listening to the album'. I've only been a fan for about 3 months, but as far as i can tell, these young women do not create 'filler' songs. There are songs you might prefer at different times, but each has its own merit. As far as older music goes, their second album, Queen of the Murder Scene, is a concept album so its important you listen to the songs in order. The 2 songs I heard first and that hooked me are: Survive - kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4jKYoqtp9Jsb9E Dust to Dust - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipask3puo9CCn7c You also still have Animosity, Mitirio, and Z off the Mayday LP plus Enter Sandman cover with Alessia Cara off the Blacklist album (utter genius). I enjoy your reactions. I love the cadence of Dany's voice in this song. You will figure out that The Warning doesn't stick to one style of music, so trying to label the band as doing anthemic power rock, or something else doesn't apply to all of their music--which I like. Listen to the entire Mayday EP and you will understand. I'm not sure why you think the ladies do not use Inearz, because they do. You said that Dany has her own style of writing melodies. Actually, all three ladies participate in writing all aspects of the songs as well as the music for all the instruments (Pau usually starts the process), so it is more accurate to say that The Warning has its own style of writing melodies. The band has been releasing a series of short, behind-the-scene documentaries (5 so far) titled, "The Warning - MAYDAY IN THE MAKING," that provides insight into a number of aspects of the band, including their song writing process.

I get the impression from listening to them that money was not the prime motivation for their signing with a record label. They are more interested in the promotional opportunities that a label can provide. For sure, the label got them on Metallica's 30th anniversary Blacklist album and a nice "showcase" gig in Las Vegas in front of Wolfgang Van Halen. Opening for the Foo Fighters, Halestorm, and Sammy Hagar are tough gigs to land if you are independent. They love to play live shows.

It's very hard to grow big without being a part of the industry. The big labels are a huge promotion machine and have the keys to a lot of doors. When The Warning have become a name and older, they can deside to go independant again like some bands have done. Like Metallica or Larkin Poe. LP have had a lot bigger success after they left the label, but now they had build a huge network and learned all the tricks.

Your take on the lyrics is really interesting. I think they’re shooting for bigger game than just the music business; this song is about people who derive their own self-worth from how much money they have, rather than more important things like love and compassion for their fellow humans. It’s also notable that they’re not exempting themselves from criticism; “Rapacity will be the illness that WE will learn to love.” With regard to the music itself, it’s probably the simplest thing they’ve done recently, but that speaks to their lack of ego when it comes to arrangements. All three sisters collaborate on each other’s parts. As a result, The Warning are a “song first” band. They play what it needs, and no more. Your reactions are brilliant, by the way. Thank you.

Sometimes i really wish i knew more about the technical side of music. Way back when, I was kinda known for always liking the "weird" music, and i didn't even know what that was supposed to mean. I really do enjoy THE WARNING a lot, and i never could (and still really can't) put my finger on why. But it makes sense now i guess, it is very a "classic rock" feel, but whether it's Disciple or Choke or whatever, they actually really have cultivated "their" sound, even through different styles of music. It's probably the same reason i enjoy german folk-metal - while a totally different genre, many bands have "their" signature sound, and it is yet the same with a lot of those J-Metal bands, where you simply *can* combine operatic singing with thrash metal riffs, or growling with Barbara Ann... They're all unique in what they're doing, and while i'm still over the moon once anyone puts on Floyd's "Brain Damage", it's just awesome that we are in a time where there's bands that seemingly aren't afraid to do whatever the heck they want to do. And yes, the title and the cash register sound are very, VERY Pink Floyd... And no, this comment doesn't have a point 🤑

The modern digital recording software, "Pro Tools" has a myriad of sound effect files you can incorporate into a recording. That's where the cash register ring came from. If you really want to see how great these ladies have become, do a double comparison reaction. 2014 "Enter Sandman" cover vs 2021 remake for the Black List album. Remember they created 1 LP and 2 full albums, including a concept album before the eldest was 18. Their magic is a fantastic combination of thought provoking lyrics, musicality, and composition. No one shows off, just to show off! There instruments and lyrics all fit like a perfect puzzle. I'm one of those people who hates some show off solo that, for me, interrupts the flow of the song. I have to say that you are one of the best reactors on KZbin. Not only do you react but you dissect the entire song. Nice. You mentioned that you would like to check out some of their older songs. I suggest you react to Dust to Dust live at Lunario CDMX. Pau sings lead. Ale was 13, Pau was 16 and Dany was 18. You could tell even back then, this is a very special band.

I like your concept of matching the beat or groove to the theme of the lyrics... Certainly one of their songs (Wildfire) very much has a soldier's march type cadence to it (at least toward the end) and it's very much a call to arms kind of song.

Part of the reason they sound new is the Warning spent years as kids covering classic metal band songs on KZbin from a home studio. 2017”s XXI Century Blood was their first album of original content and sounded like it. The band really hit its stride a year later with Queen of the Murder Scene. Ale made a big leap forward with punchy baselines, which now would often drive the band’s songs. Dani and Pau’s song writing improved to the point where they could write a coherent concept album and their vocal range expanded noticeably. This album got them signed to a record company, who could provide the production and support you noticed in the new Mayday album and concurrent singles Money and another cover of Sandman. Their current tour should broaden their audience. I suspect this will be the last time I will be able to see them at a Denver indi music bar for twenty bucks. They are destined for stadiums.

Yeah. I can certainly see that in their future. Especially now they’ve done a few major stadium shows.

Definitely they are getting what they deserve, they are going to be huge sooner than later, if you want to check out more talented band from Mexico give a try to Zero Killed feat Björn "Speed" Strid (Soilwork) by SENSE OF NOISE, heavier but catchy and very very well produced metal.

The Warning DOES use in-ear monitors, primarily because they play to a click. Pau triggers it for each song from a laptop mounted on her drum rack.

Grandioso reaction as per usual from you ♠! Having said this, I wonder how you would react to these songs when you would know their entire older catalogue. Queen of the Murder Scene (QOTMS) is a concept album and I recommend you to do the entire live concert from Lunario [kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4fGmohpnLKAi7s] in one take. The music starts from 12 min 25 seconds. I assure you, you won't skip a song☺. I think these lyrics and music will give you a better insight of their future capabilities. Going back even further the predecessor from Money has to be the title song of the album XX1CB. When you think of the maturity of songwriting at that age, is something truly special. They are very intelligent, that's for sure. Other classics on that album amongst others are Survive and Black Holes (Both WOW). I advise you to take the live versions or special versions like the unique three songs from Pau on the piano. By the way did you know that The Warning after their own tour, will support Halestorm and Pretty Reckless on their tour playing locations from a capacity ± 3.000 to ± 18.500. Piece by piece the puzzle of music domination is being laid. 2 3 GO. Post scriptum: you won't have to react to this, just lay this text under your pillow☺☺

I don't think they were talking about their current record deal as ,you correctly said, it took them 7 months to negotiate their terms. They were adamant on their creative content and also the continuation of their patreon. Many record labels had tried to sign them but they stood firm until they found the deal was firstly right for them and then for the record deal. You should check out their TedX talk show where they touch on this subject and perform 3 great songs. Unmendable, When I'm alone and the fan favourite Survive. This was about 5 years ago in 2017.it is about 18 minutes long if you have the time to react to it. Cheers Chaos.🤟

If you want a song to wow someone, there are several from every era of the evolution of this band but maybe this one is more of a connection to their current sound, please react to Queen of the Murder Scene - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXmxYWCXp92mrpY or Dust to Dust (D2D) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipask3puo9CCn7c - - It's from their previous full album. Bear in mind, that this is a live performance (no studio sound) from their concert to debut this album, in Mexico City, so the altitude was 7,000ft. AND they were 18, 16, 13 (I believe) or you can react to the version from their current 2022 MayDay Tour - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ-Zc3irlJ2Wn6M). Also, great reaction!

Another solid and informative reaction on your part. Picking up on the bands 70’s Classic Rock influences and pointing them out is one of the many reasons why your reactions are better than most. Also, the description of Pau’s drumming that I’ve always liked is that she’s basically like the Muppet Animal back there. If you’re looking for suggestions on where to go next, “Narcisista” is still my main suggestion for all the reasons it was before (Pau sings lead, it’s in Spanish, and there’s a guitar solo). However, if you’re looking to go further back in their career their live performance of “Survive” from their Ted Talk is definitely worth checking out (kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2eVhImsgdxsfKs). My other suggestion for their older stuff is the first song from the excellent Queen of the Murder Scene concept album “Dust to Dust”. If you react to any songs off QotMS (and you really should, the entire album from start to finish is awesome), I highly suggest the live videos from Lunario CDMX as Dany really gets into her “character” as the Crimson Queen.

Sorry, but they do use in-ears. And a click track which is the one thing I could gripe about. I'd like them to be more organic live. The less they have to rely on a backing track...who knows? Still love them though :-)
@PrymalChaos
@PrymalChaos 2 жыл бұрын
My thoughts on that is that is pretty simple. I use in ears because it’s infinitely better for your long term hearing, but also you can hear your performance with unprecedented quality. The better you can hear the more confident you can perform. As far as click tracks go, they’re almost necessary these days with lighting and synced video production. Either way I’m sure these guys put on a killer show regardless. 🤟
