I don't think you mentioned this pretty clearly depicts a generational conflict specifically between Z and Boomer. Nothing particular new in that in Rock, but real world this has taken on new meaning given that data pretty well illustrates milleniials and specifically Z's will not achieve the standard living as the previous generations, largely because the sytem is breaking down under a crushing debt load. Plato warned that Democracy can only survive until they figure out they can vote themselves money from the Treasury, Adam Smith specifically warned the peril of Capitalism was basically regulation capture by the wealthy. The generation that follws after this has happened is screwed. The girls represent Z I think, Dany eating cake sort of tips me off, the whole let them eat cake thing, except Dany is eating their cake. The money in the pigs mouth I think demonstrates ridiculously wasteful the generation before was. It is particularly dangerous to tell a generation to pull themselves up by the bootstraps when they don't have boots. The gilded cage thing also comes to mind the bird is drawn to the cage by the money, its bait to suck you into the broken system, but it is still locked away. The Pied Piper promise, this really goes back away in their music.
@johnmacleod95078 ай бұрын
@@transdutormusic It pretty clearly depicts a generational struggle between Z and Boomer as well, the wastefulness of the previous generation depicted by the cash stuffed in the Pigs mouth, while the bird is drawn to the cage by the money locked inside, just out of reach, the pied piper promise. Sick and HYCAD are angry songs. It was around 1980 and there was some stuff on the news about Social Security I was out shooting with Dad and his best friend and asked them about it. He just laughed and said kid you'll pay into all your life and never get a dime back the way these dumbasses spend money. Both men were born in the late 30's and had a mistrust of government and wealthy people that abides to this day and they are in their 80's. Trust me politicians have been bought paid for a long time, they just used to hide it better. The truth has been sold. Whats the other line the truth they sell you is rarely true. I still remember my dad, that goddamn Reagan spends money like a democrat. It has always astonished how well read many in that generation were and suspicious of power, any power.

That’s been mentioned by some. I feel like it's been a while since we had album artwork that was thought provoking. In the days of record albums we would sit and look at the album art while the record played. I love that The Warning are true artists who put feeling and meaning and depth into their songs. For so long it seems bands thought that playing a musical instrument was an Olympic sport to see who could play the most diddley diddley's per second. The Warning understand and are masters at using their instruments to convey feelings. They know that songs are not just words and notes but works of art. I enjoyed your take on their album art. I agree with those who think it is the inside art and not the cover. I almost wonder if they will surprise us with a double album, one live and one studio. That would be awesome. Sorry I can't add anything to the artwork conversation, I only commented because I love The Warning! Best Band Ever! ❤🤟🤟🤘

While I watched Dany's interview with Javier I kept thinking about what you said about the birdcage and the bird outside of it. Then when I was listening to Hell you call a dream it all seemed to really make sense. "The need to stay inside this cage", "hurting but I choose to stay this way" "Isn't it normal to love what we hate" I'm sure there are many times when that bird feels like flying away from all the chaos, but it stays because it loves it.@@psychologyofrock

Fantastic as always! Love your insight and analysis. My thoughts on the title is it appears to be a reference to ‘More’. “Won’t you feed my senses?” “I love it when you feed me yet you leave me begging for more.”. It will be interesting if there’s an actual title track or if the title just references the main concept of the album. They released an insta today with a shot of some lyrics for Que Mas Quieres. “You’re not going to hide from me. I know you’ll always come back. Even though sometimes you’ll want to escape. I know you’re going to stay here.” There’s your bird staying on the cage idea right there! Seems like the words of the antagonist in response to the idea of “Hell You Call a Dream” perhaps. Either way it’s going to be a fantastic 2024. The year of THE WARNING!!🤘🤘

Never thought of the Rush album, but I think that's coincidental. I pretty much agree with your analysis, it looks to me like they are crashing a party of stuffy establishment figures and just want to have a good old time at the expense of the greedy and glutinous power holders. I get a little Clockwork Orange vibe, Pau is playing Alex and is going to have a little fun busting the place up. I think you are on point. The Warning started cautioning us about the dangers of being too immersed in modern technology and social media on their first album. The music video XXI Century Blood ibegins the theme that they have carried on with ever since. Error had many songs about the dangers of seeking outside strimulation and ignoring the pleasures availible in real life, about becoming inured and seeking out more and more outrageous material to satisfy cravijngs only to become even more bored with reality. More, and S!CK both emphasize those feelings ( to me) of never being satisfied and having to seek out more evil and danger to be able to feel anything at all.

What a wonderful vid to discover the day before the release of new TW songs!. I feel the bird outside the cage alludes to their _TedX Talk_ appearance 7 years ago when they were getting started. They made a mission statement about sticking to their identity and not taking the bait to become something they are not for money. Some people have say TW have sold out, I strongly disagree. The bird can go in and out of the cage for money as she wants, she knows it can be a trap, but she is managing the risk on her terms, so then it is no longer a trap. Also, the money in the cage suggests that's her nest, a safe haven from the chaos of the outer world. The sisters _are_ homebodys, no doubt about it!. Smart bird!.

The first thing that stood out for me was the obvious reference to the Last Supper which portrays the moment when Christ told his disciples that one of them would betray him. Each disciple is shown with their own unique expression to what's been told. Interestingly everyone outside of the members of the band are all elderly people, all in formal wear with different expressions to the chaos that's taken place with these younger girls. It's as if the older generation was getting ready to enjoy this lavish feast when all of a sudden these three girls intrude into their private affair unannounced and uninvited. I think what this is portraying is the dissatisfaction with the world these girls have inherited by the older generations, which I think is something that a lot of young people are experiencing now. They feel betrayed that the lifestyle that may have been afforded to previous generations has not been preserved for the next generation and is being indulged upon and wasted. So, they come in to be a major disruption to the status quo. They're going to shake things up and show that the old ways will pass away.

I think keep me fed is a refernce to the line feed my senses in More. Same way Mayday referenced a line in Animosity. Now I am not 100% sure but I think feed my senses is a english translation of a spanish phrase that would be used in context of like really really impress me especially in a way that feels good english phrases with roughly equivalent meanings would be something like blow my mind or knock my socks off or float my boat Also I think the irony meter would explode if a major theme of the album is a critque of greed and mindless relentless pursuit of wealth sense it seems like more than a few people think the newer songs are examples of the warning abandoning their roots and selling out for more commercial success. I always find those opinions kinda funny since one would think if they really were willing to sell out they would have done it years ago when people like Disney and AGT were calling them but only if they were willing to compromise their ideals for business. Again I am not sure how true this is but I have read an anecdote wehre during this period after they refused to compromise they were told they were going to eevntually have to decide if they want to play for 40 people or 40,000 and their answer was they choose playing for 40 being who they are over playing for 40,000 being who theyre not

Girl you ate with this analysis, what a interesting way to see those details! it makes me more excited and anxious about what they are going to show us in this album, because I feel we are going to see a different kind of personality and at the same time a vulnerability of them in a different way you know? When I heard this new songs I felt this desire, ambition and a little lack of a desperation to be seeing in a industry that just validate you in a way, but no just this, the aurea is different, is more rebel as you said with the choice of the colors in red with this vibe “I don’t care anymore” and more bolder with the lyrics. Excellent analysis. I agree with the idea that the bird perched on the cage symbolizes not so much freedom as the illusion of freedom while still being trapped by the contents of the cage - wealth, or the desire for it. I also feel that this artwork, while full of Easter eggs that are clearly associated with each of the sisters, doesn't represent so much their view of their personal situation, but rather, their view of the world, especially as it applies to their generation, but not limited to it. This running commentary, though it has evolved and matured with them, is something they've been sharing with us since XXI Century Blood, and in my opinion, the ladies are spot on in their observations.

Intriguing analysis, as usual! My take on the bird/cage/money is similar to your first hypothesis. Not only is the bird not really free, it realizes in its hopes of being free that it can't realistically fly too far from what's required to survive in its current reality. Might this be a metaphor for the band's feelings? So fiercely independent in the early days and so eloquent about it at the 2017 TEDx Talk. Now, with extensive recording and touring commitments, plus staff that depend on them for a living, and despite a contract that reportedly gives them complete artistic freedom, I can't imagine them not feeling that they are tethered to the industry while still yearning for the independence they had when they were much younger.

Hi Nina, fun post. So, here is my very unofficial analysis. The table reminds me of paintings of "The Last Supper." Maybe symbolizing it could be our last supper if we pursue and indulge in consuming everything on the table, representing materialism. The pig could represent prosperity, wealth, luck, and abundance. When you call some one a "pig" it is derogatory esp. "a greedy pig", or a glutton. Here, the pig is dead and roasted, and looks dry and desiccated, but still has money in its mouth. It is still greedy for "More" "Money" even after it is dead and didn't want to give it up even when dead. Red can symbolize luxury (like a red Porsche), passion, and violence, but also means "stop." So, maybe the girls are inferring stop with all the pursuit of an abundance of money and luxury. The three men near Ale react to her like what is she doing tossing away a glass of champagne, maybe it is a glass of Dom Perigone or Crystal like it is nothing. She looks like none of what they have given her interests her and she needs something more exciting. Everything in front of her is old and boring. The candle sticks may just be decorative, but candle sticks are used in the stock market to show the open, high, low, and close prices for the day, like a bar chart. And there is a "3 Candlestick Pattern" in trading. Though I'm sure the candles here don't mean anything, but they are appropriate in the picture. Notice, there is nothing nutritious on the table. Symbolizing how unsatisfying and unhealthy the pursuit of "More" "Money" and material possessions are. There is no dinner ware or silver ware on the table, no one is really consuming anything, it's all just for show. Notice there is money scattered along the table and in front of the table. There is also a lot of inedible decorations and garnishes taking up a lot of space on the table and on the floor in front of the table. There is Pau, needing to hit something. Poor Dany. She took a beating in the "Sick" video. She gets thumped by Ale. Falls for a long time then gets blown up. She gets struck by lightning and punched by Pau 😂.

Great analysis, love yours content. Always very insightful and spot on. Guess we’ll find out what all this means soon, can’t wait. I’ve always been a huge fan of rock music, all the different genres within the rock pantheon and wow I’m so happy I found these ladies. I like you had given up on new music until I found these girls. They have quickly become one of my favorite bands of all time. Can’t wait for the new album and your thoughts and analysis on the new songs and album. These ladies are intelligent beyond their years. Haven’t been this excited over a band in years. 🤘 ⚡️ ❤🤘

Rudy took out an ad for a specific type of graphic artist which leads me to believe this is the internal artwork for the vinyl. I noticed the difference in height of the 3 candles immediately and had the same thought. Also notice there are 13 candles lit in the scene. 12 are white and 1 is a darker color. Could that indicate number of songs and 1 song in Spanish? A person could drive themselves crazy trying to figure out the symbolism…

Great thoughts! I hadn’t considered that it may not be the cover! 😊⚡️🤘🏻
@mjc13898 ай бұрын
@@psychologyofrock yup, I screwed that up…lol. It is in fact the cover artwork. I just watched a Twitch interview where TW briefly talked about the meaning and Pau was quick to comment that it’s not nearly as “deep” as people have been making it out to be. Ale also mentioned that there are Easter eggs in the cover and Pau added that they are indeed referencing other songs on the album so they can’t really talk in detail about the cover art until the album drops.

That style reminds me heavily of Ken Kelly's work on Kiss Destroyer and Love Gun. But since he passed away two years ago, I'm thinking this was at least inspired by his work. I love it.

The Moving Pictures thing is something I'm shocked I didn't pick up on. Even if that isn't the intent. But, as you said the colors are similar and I even find the window in the background of Keep Me Fed reminds me of the archway of Rush's Moving Pictures album. With all the staring I did at the picture. The only thing I concluded was "Whaaat the F***??!" I couldn't have made as much sense of it as you did. One thing I know for sure is, I know Dany is enjoying all of us trying to figure things out. Probably chuckling at our guesses while eating a donut.

Blabbermouth has an article with comments from Dany and Pau about the new songs. HYCAD is not what I thought but makes total sense. I personally see it as a song about depression and anxiety coming to a head. But no surprise that my mind would go there.

This album is going to be yet another step on The Warning ladder. So far (in my opinion) all four songs released at this time, are different but still The Warning! And I also thought of RUSH when I saw the cover. It can be intentional because the girls are often compared to Rush. The over all work of the album art is astonishing, so much to analyze. They keep us thinking which is typical The Warning. As usual I like your commentaries, they usually are spot on. You are good!

Great analysis! I also think the positioning of the girls is important. They are in their stage positions, but Pau is standing over everyone. She is in charge of the band. Ale is ambivalent and tossing the wine (ie she doesn't care about the rewards). Dany is being glutenous, having her cake and eating it to (relishing in the success). Pau is looking down at Dany, ready to swing a candlestick (ie use force to stop Dany). Also Pau is wearing all red (with red hair) while her sisters are wearing lesser degrees of red or mostly black, almost as if the amount of red implies their temperament. Add in the Last Supper vibes (or reverse last supper if you will)...or we're all really overthinking this. :) Thanks for the vid!

On first glance, the image appears to present the ladies as an anachronism to the scene depicted - an alternate/opposite universe of what their true nature is: down to earth, well raised, good people. This image also is reflective of the current state of affairs of this current generation as depicted in their lyrics that you (accurately) described in your lyrical analysis.

These ideas definitely fit. In terms of rebellion, you can also look at the band’s clean-cut image, established when they were teenagers, but may feel constraining as they go into adulthood. Some fans seem shocked when they dress less conservatively or perhaps have a drink, and also don’t like changes in their music (and this tends to come from men who resemble those at the table)-in other words not letting them grow up. But this rebellion is also done with a wink, they are not trying to break the world but more looking to find their place. The video for More has a lot of these elements. And the “violence” in S!ck is more along the lines of breaking out of shell.
