Good reaction, great having you two hosers back together reviewing The Warning. Good news for ya: this is actually a shortened version of the original composition with an extended ride-out solo and sing-along chorus. And it is tried and tested in Argentina during their Power Trio 2 Tour with Eruca Sativa (who hails from ARG) with great results and I reckon we may see just what Ryan says occur when they go on tour this winter. However, I take umbrage with Martirio kicking Narcisita's butt! haha Yes indeed, the overall production is better and it's a rounder, fuller sound, but damn it if Narcisista doesn't get the crowd super hype and it's hella fun to sing along with once you learn the chorus. However, I do love Martirio as it has such gravitas and heft, and Dany has taken her vocals to un otra nivel on this latest album. And it has become a workout staple for me...it is a fantastic "extend your cardio, grind it out for another 5 minute song!" Look forward to the next couple reactions as it's about time you Canuckleheads got around to doing the EP! \m/ \m/

I enjoyed your reaction. This is now my favorite song from The Warning, and I have no idea what they are saying. Dany's voice is haunting in this song. Pau's hair color changed, but she also had her hair down, as opposed to her usual pony tails. The ladies have said they write their songs in English primarily because it is easier for them. They said words don't flow as well in Spanish, and that English is a better language for writing rock songs. Maybe part of the reason for that is because they grew up listening to English speaking rock bands--at least based on their interviews.

Martirio (martyrdom) in idiomatic Spanish also refers to inner torment or suffering, not just dying for a cause. In a sense it has a similar theme to Choke which is that you should learn to deal with your own problems if you want to be happy (as in “don’t be such a martyr” - my interpretation). Glad to see you guys back on The Warning. 👍😎

Paulina tells a funny story about this song. Dany did the vocals in the studio with their producer David Bendeth. Dany and David thought it sounded fine. Paulina heard it later and said that Dany was singing it with an American accent. So, Dany spoke nothing but Spanish for a couple days, gave it another shot, and this was the result. The sisters are their own severest critics.

The ladies have said that they actually have an easier time writing songs in English because most of the rock music they were exposed to growing up was in English. They typically have to get their mom to help them write the lyrics for the Spanish songs.

Although Spanish is their native language, the girls didn't choose to do most of their material in English for the sake of more fans and revenue. They choose English because its easier for them to express themselves with the English language. Writing a song in Spanish is no easy task especially when rhyming and trying to make words fit like a puzzle. I know because I speak Spanish. They love their culture but it just makes more sense to write in English because its easier and because they grew up with american music at home. Bringing in more fans and money is just a bonus.

I think they've said that it takes more effort for them to come up with the right words in Spanish, even though it is their native tongue. They've said that the lyrics come naturally in English for some reason, but I'm so glad they did Narcisista and Martirio in Spanish. They sound great to me.

As far as I know they started to write songs ion English since they grew listening Rock in English, they started playing covers of Rock songs in English so to some degree they found it more natural to write in English, they even found it a bit harder to write in Spanish, I think it was Pau who said that for her making a song ryme in Spanish was not always as natural. Of course, the fact when they started to become known thanks to the Enter Sandman cover back in 2014/15 and then their fan base grew from that made a lot of their fans be English speaking people, be those whose English is their native language and a lot who have/learned English as a 2nd language.

They said they don't like writing in Spanish as much, this here is a very strong song and it's been very well received, which will most likely encourage them to do more, Spanish is my first language yet I like most songs they've done in English better than narcisista, but that's just me, I believe their strength will be mostly English, and it makes perfect sense since they are an international band.

They actually started writing songs in English because that is the music they grew up with, and as you have noticed, they have been wonderfully bilingual from a very early age. I am Mexican and let me tell you something, R&R sounds weird to me (and to most people) in Spanish. It has something to do with pronunciation. Just imagine mariachi music in English. A certain group went to the poor ladies' throats for only doing songs in English and called them turncoats and "malinchistas" (the same thing with deep intrinsic meaning in Mexico). Because of that, Pau wrote "Narcisista" in Spanish. A scathing rebuke to their critics (OK, more like a huge middle finger). To me, Narcisista still sounds somewhat forced, as other rock songs do in my language. But Martirio sounds perfect! It is, without any doubt in my mind, one of the best rock songs ever in Spanish.
@roywall8169
@roywall8169 2 жыл бұрын
Funny how you mentioned they are in their element, as they had some issues getting the lyrics right. They have difficulty with sentence structure, and making sense despite it being their native language. Pau seems to naturally fall into english, when writing lyrics. 🙂

One thing they mentioned is that the schools they attended were all English speaking schools. So they said it easier to write in English vs Spanish. Plus all the reasons you mentioned. English is the universal music language.

You made a very good explanation of what the English word "martyr" means, but as most of us Warning fans have since learned, it is not precisely an accurate translation of the Spanish word "Martirio", and certainly isn't what is being sung about here.

Enter sandman with Alessia Cara is a master piece for me, pretty much in their element. Mainly Rock has been in English, so the whe world, mainly rocks to English music. I hope they can keep polishing to perfection...in any language. Julio Iglesias doesn't have the best pronunciation in other languages, but he has turned a lot of songs into gold with his interpretation. I appreciate your appreciation. Their manager is a film maker, that's why the video is so cool

Great reaction Madison, Nathan and Ryan! Martirio English translation Martyrdom = Pain * Torment * Suffering * Even though the Spanish word martirio literally translates to martyrdom in English, the English word martyrdom has a different meaning than the Spanish word martirio. The Spanish word martirio just means pain, torment, and suffering. It is not associated with 'suffering for a noble cause' the way it is in the English language. Lyrics- Sometimes the obvious things are the most difficult to see You choked with your own hands When everything points that finally someone will rescue you You find yourself abandoned again Drown yourself in your martyrdom It's your destiny, give in You try to find an explanation in the deepest of your being And you fall into the void again At last you realize in secret that the pain will stay Will be your new life of martyrdom There's no turning back, you can't escape from the fire at your feet And in the darkness, you'll get lost Drown yourself in your martyrdom It's your destiny, give in (guitar solo) Sometimes the obvious things are the most difficult to see (walk down bass line) Drown yourself in your martyrdom It's your destiny, give in Learn from the ones who suffered If you have to live in fear, it's best to die at the hands of a goodbye To your sad life, foolish martyr, say goodbye Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Whoa Ah (guitar solo) Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Great to see you guys back at TW. Thank you for all your support! 🤘🤠🔥

When they were starting out. English lyrics were a lot more easer to convey the rock meaning that they were trying to get across. Spanish has a lot more nuances , like if you are talking to an older person or the opposite sex. They had their mother help them with grammatically with these songs.
@OGK_Show
@OGK_Show 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, the reason that they have done mainly English speaking songs is because most rock music - especially their influences - is in English and as a language English is easier to write rock songs. It has nothing to do with money or career direction. It's just English is easier to write a rock song than Spanish. That's exactly why it took them so long to write a song in Spanish "Narcisista."

Nice reaction but they don't sing in English for the "money". They grew up listening to English speaking bands and that's why they do what they do. It's not a marketing decision it's who they are and they have remarked it's harder for them to create in Spanish. BTW react to the song Z and you will hear Dany's best solo ever.
