Great reaction Speak Easy! This is the 1st single off of their yet to be released 3rd full-length LP. From the drummer Paulina: "Choke is about being so overwhelmed by your feelings that you start to drown on them and choke on them and we really wanted the song to reflect that hopelessness you sometimes feel and just offer it to everyone as a safe place to feel those feelings and just like a place of comfort for them". The Villarreal sisters are amazing songwriters and performers who are truely grateful and endearing to all of their fans. Each one of their original songs is an absolute banger. Their second album, "Queen of the Murder Scene", is a concept album. It follows a girl's journey into unrequited love from infatuation and obsession on into stalking and murder, then madness and psychosis and eventually suicide. It's a masterpiece. It was nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2019 Independent Music Awards. Their 1st full-length LP, "XXI Century Blood" is also very good and is packed with great songs. Their 1st released recordings are from their 6 song EP, "Escape the Mind", and it is amazing. Despite being courted by numerous offers from many major record labels, The Warning have stayed independent through the years; relying on crowd funding to finance their projects. They refused to give up creative control over their material ... down to even the clothes they wear on stage. After 7 months of negotiations, The Warning signed a 5 album recording contract with Lava/Republic Records/Universal Music Group last fall. We are all patiently awaiting their 3rd album release. The Warning do not come from a musical family, however, their parents are huge fans of classic rock. Both parents are professionals (civil engineer and dentist) and enrolled their daughters into a private Catholic English school Liceo. They also started the girls with classical piano lessons at ages 5, 5 and 3 years old. Regular family functions included gathering around the TV with popcorn and watching LIVE concert dvds of legendary bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen and AC/DC. When their parents got them the video game Rock Band at ages 8, 6 and 3, they went nuts playing it obsessively. A year or so later, they got "real" instruments with lessons from professional teachers: and the rest is history. For The Warning's 1st album, "XXI Century Blood", their show from January 19th, 2018 at the Dakota Bar has the best quality pro-shot audio/video to react from. For their 2nd album, "Queen of the Murder Scene", I recommend 3 shows to react from: Lunario CDMX, Foro-DiDi, or January 16th, 2020 at The Whisky a Go-Go shows. You can find these on The Warning's official KZbin channel. You shouldn't have any copyright infringement strikes or blocking problems. QOTMS is a conceptual album, like a musical novel. Listen a few songs without order it´s like seeing a tv series skiping chapters in a random order. I bet you can´t find a bad song from them, every single one are good and remains in your brain in repeat several days.

But that's the kinda neat thing about QOTMS. You CAN skip songs and listen to each as a stand alone (single) and thoroughly enjoy them, or you can listen in order on the album and let the gals tell the story. Honestly, that's not something I've been able to do since some of the mega concept albums from Iron Maiden and the like way back in the day. That's how good TW are!

If you haven't already, you need to check the bands 2014 video, from the Warning Cave, doing the cover of Metallica's Enter Sandman. That's 7 years ago. Alejandra (playing bass) was just a young kid at the time. Incredible growth, not only in the ability to play their chosen instruments, but their stage presence has grown exponentially as well. These young women are just fantastic.

They are prolific singer/songwriters. All 3 write but Pau (the drummer) is the most prolific. All 3 started with classical piano lessons and Pau generally writes at a piano. But all 3 still play keys on different songs.

Thanks for this great reaction. That was fun! CHOKE is the first release on a major label (Lava) and it's the start to a new era of this amazing young band. But their previous two full length albums "XXI Century Blood" and "Queen of the Murder Scene" are already fantastic, As many people have said, all songs from these albums are great and worth reacting to, which is a very rare achievment.

You did the "Dust to Dust" video from the Lunario performance from November 2018 when they were 18, 16 and 13. Yeah they've grown (well Ale has), or maybe matured is a better word in three years. For Queen of the Murder Scene, anything from the Lunario is great, or Foro Didi in 2019, or even the Whiskey in 2020. For their earlier music, the Dakota performance from January 2018 is pro-shot and very good. Thanks!

Once an executive ask the girls what they prefer: Play their music to 50,000 or 50 people and Pau answered: For 50 if we can have control of our music. Many companies look for the girls like Nickelodeon or American Idol and several record labels but alwalys wants to change something. That´s the reason they made an EP and two albums only with the support of their Patrons and Kikstart campaigns. In 2020 has 7 months of negotiations and finally signs with Lava Records, first mexican artist signing with an american label, not the local branch. They have a rough negotiation process because wants to conserve their Patron page and fans, and this happens at the end. They have very strong mindset and knows what they want. One time, after ear a song about domestic violence: Copper Bullets, their mom ask Pau if she can write about rainbows and unicorns and Pau just say No, I can´t. Their parents quits for their proffesions and work full time with the band, in many live perfomance videos you can see his dad helping as staff from them.

Never mind that they have played to bigger audiences at festivals than what the hapless record executive mentioned. The version I've heard about Copper Bullets is that their parents disapproved because of the maturity of the subject matter, and DPA were firm that yes, the song stays. I thought the "rainbows and unicorns" thing was more recent, and that Pau just shot back "no" and also said that she doesn't like writing music in major keys. They don't appreciate people who want to meddle with their artistic choices (and as noted have given a flat "no" to their parents on occasion), and have had at least one bad experience with outsiders. But working hard is not something they object to. David Bendeth supposedly drove them without mercy during the recording of the forthcoming album and they had no problem at all with that.

There have been more than a few songs that their parents raised an eyebrow at, including Stalker. Their mom in particular wanted that 1 off QOTMS. Pau explained why it was there, how it fit the story, and how it is the turning point in the album for the character and it stayed. Let's face it, if you're looking for a ballad or love song from TW, 'Eternal Love' might be as close as it comes, and it aint no love song ;)

In all fairness this video is a slick production utilizing studio recorded audio. It should sound much better than anything else. Especially, when that studio recording is via one of the top record labels in the world and a fantastic, top level producer. The audio on this song is mind blowing. "Dust To Dust" was from late 2018. "CHOKE" is spring 2021. Basically 2 1/2 years maturing as young ladies and musicians. All three have had vocal coaching and if you listen to XXI Century Blood (their debut full album) and QOTMS you'll quickly pick up on their stronger vocals. Dany is incredible on that collection, so it's that natural progression. Yeah, wow! Has Dany nurtured her singing voice into high level songstress. About the time Dust to Dust was release Pau (19) was settling in to her own personal look, keeping her hair very straight and shiny with an underneath back portion dyed to a special color - changes routinely. In December Dany (21) went blond and I think along with the way she styles it and from the work out she gives it on stage it's the perfect look for her. Dany is like this electrified figure of energy and with locks of her blond hair flying around she's so illuminated. It just fits her electric high energy personality. This past December Ale reached 16. It seems like there might be a family rule from their incredible parents that until they reach 16 they will not wear heavy makeup often and basically not so grown. It was like night and day. Okay more like sunrise and daylight, but one could see the immediate visual change in Ale after she hit sweet sixteen. Then a month or so later she got her hair cut and styled into that perfect fit of beauty that reflects her. Also, around that time somebody got a tip that when she poses with a certain expression a certain way with her makeup on (even without honestly) she is a total beauty who can slay anything trying to resist her. She uses it in the video with powerful effectiveness. Anyway, the young ladies have matured into drop dead gorgeous model material (publicists are probably so stoked). We saw this coming from way back. Now it's like the blooming of flowers. If one hasn't been around to see it happening in real time the difference is stunning and such a credit to them. All the while they're still the same fun loving, personable, modest, friendly, loving, thankful and gracious family. I don't know the method that Mony and Luis have for raising their three amazingly talented daughters, but whatever they're doing they're doing an amazing job at it. Even without the music they would be the same polite, gracious and humble young ladies. I think that's part of the draw. I know it is for me. They're not like some spoiled brats or self indulged rebels with distrust for anyone over 27. Look at them. No tattoos (not that that is a bad or good thing) or multiple piercings other than their eyes. One last point. They totally do their own thing! Even on stage they don't walk around doing the standard rock star moves and all of that. Always smiling and so glad to meet people. Totally a different breed of rock star coming out of the Villarreal family from Monterrey, Mexico. Speaking of vocals.. this is a 1st, but during the slow quiet part with the cool harmonizing vocals and Dany wailing a bit in the background. That's Ale singing that low chorus. Up until now, there's never been a recording featuring Ale's lead/solo voice. CHOKE is a very special song. One that I believe is going to break the band into the big time. We'll see, but this song is incredible.

Pau had hinted in a previous vlog that the new album was going to be 'harder' than anything they had done before when someone asked if Martirio was any indication of what the new album would sound like. That song will be on the new album as well, and from what we are told, the only song sung in Spanish. Those of us in TWA knew to buckle up as soon as we saw Dani smirk in the early part of this video. Ale gives us her crooked grin as well, and adds a sassy shoulder shimmy that screams pure attitude. Pau.. well, she's all business, but I cannot get over how fast her hands move on the drum fills. Watch it again!

So, you’ve talked about doing QOTMS in sequence, but may skip a song or two? I would advise against that because, that would be like skipping a chapter of a really good book, or FF part of a thriller movie. No point in doing that you think? On top of that, QOTMS have no filler song, we would have a really hard time telling you which one to skip (and that would create tension in TWA since we do not all have the same favorite. Mine is always the last one that I have heard). Simpler approach; do them all, only 12 to go, loll! Enjoy ! Teaser: was Dust to Dust the prologue, of the end of the story? (or both?) Do them all and you will know...
