They hired Ivan Chavez, a 2023 graduate of the University of Monterrey film school, to oversee/edit the video. Lalo Plaza was the audio engineer with Beto Ramos, Pau’s drum teacher, doing the mixing. Brian Bogovic, from Halestorm’s team, did the lights and graphics.

I love how the girls are all in character when they hit the stage. If you have ever watched any of their interviews or home, behind the scenes, goofy videos, they are such sweet little ladies and then they turn into larger than life beasts when they rock out for us!! Actually one of my favorite things ( besides the music ) is the facial expressions and mannerisms.

I love that Pau "brings back" her old "high sticks, smack the snot out of them drums" style, for visuals, stage presence, or even just the sheer joy of it! She's honed her skills to the point where she can really minimize her motion for maximum efficiency, she shows that a lot these days, but here we get more her original high sticking style - she doesn't NEED to, she WANTS to! (And it's EXCELLENT showmanship and stagecraft - very visually engaging!)

This one works really well as their show opener when they are opening for someone like Halestorm or Muse. Gives folks just a little chance to get a feel for them one at a time before DPA starts melting faces. I can tell you that an unknowing crowd really responded to 'Z' as an opener when I saw them open for Lzzy. I agree with you that Pau & Ale could do that intro line for days. A while back when I was listening to Ale play the horn part for Charlie Parker's 'Donna Lee' on your Ale video, I thought that Parker & Dizzy could have done a great bebop chart on top of the 'Z' intro. Or James Pankow writing a killer horn line for Chicago with that foundation. It could also go full on Iron Maiden. It is a groove that could go a lot of different directions, including cheerleader punk. The snap/crack from Pau's snare is something that caught my ear from the very beginning of my descent down TW rabbit hole. I have also always enjoyed how she uses her floor toms as a feature and not just an accessory. And less in this song, but I very much appreciate how she so tastefully uses her double kick pedal, not very often, so it really gets your attention when she uses it. LOL, Guitoo soloing with Alion fingers. Quite the lexicon you are building here, Don.

Wow - you mentioned the bass drum at the start sounding like a bass guitar - so yeah, I checked the pitch - yup! Amazing - the bass drum is tuned to the same note as the root of the song - the first bass notes of the riff match the drum perfectly! Now THAT is attention to detail!

Awesome Don! So many highlights in this song. Pau’s cracking snare to open it. Ale’s groovy bass line. Dany’s chainsaw guitar tone. The way Pau leans wayyyy back to engage her floor toms always gets me hyped! Dany’s awesome solo with the guitar hero theatrics (and yes, great video editing). Ale’s “tuininini-tuininini” (excellent callback of the Ale/Dany bass lesson, which was epic). And Pau closes it off with a scream reminiscent of Evolve. Such a killer opening track. So much fun & energy!

Don! Glad you’re up and running. How did I miss this? Great reaction and analysis as usual. So glad you mentioned the tuning of Pau’s Toms. Her tech has that set so dialed in and how does her snare head even survive? Everything about these shows was so well produced. Their team (“extended family”) did a fantastic job. This is what is coming to their headlining shows and I don’t think the world has caught up enough yet to understand…but the world will be Warned.

Great to have you back Don😊🤘! The solo from Dany in this song is one of my favs from her with the bending and tapping. Was Dany adjusting her in ear monitors towards the beginning of the video or was that something to do with her guitar interface? You commented about Pau being entertaining to watch and I have to agree. Every time I come across a Pau Cam video I watch. Depending on her chosen camera angle sometimes you can see when she starts and stops the click. Since you mentioned her being aware of where the camera is at all times in the 23 video I’ve now started to notice every time she sneaks a peek in various songs. That drum intro is so amazing. Then the build when Ale comes onstage with her bass intro and the crescendo by the fans when Dany runs onstage. It’s enough to give a guy the chills.
@WaldoKitty Жыл бұрын
the one on her left hip/back is for her In-earz... the one for the guitar is on the guitar strap where it connects to the guitar body (low right side when worn)... this makes it easier to exchange guitars without having to swap equipment/cords on stage... behind the scenes, the guitar tech can move the wifi unit to another guitar if needed when getting the next one ready and tuned...

Fun Fact: Pau's home/practice drum setup has 14" and 16" floor toms but in concert she uses 16" and 18" floor toms... i'm not sure what she uses for studio sessions, though... some Fun Facts about *Z* : 1. *Z* has been their opener for numerous concerts... 2. the title of this song, "Z", is short for "GenZ" or "Generation Z"... they thought it to be "too much" so they shortened it to just "Z"... 3. yes, they do reference their song Kool-Aid Kids in the 2nd verse: Wear the blindfold, drink the tide Who will we destroy this time? Revolutionary Kool-Aid kids Happiness, the lowly traitor Kill the raw, one like, one prayer Disappointing how we're used to fall (I think that you should) 4. this song, a cup of c0ffee, and a donut are the perfect start to the day! 😹 TWA ⚡🤘😸🤘⚡ TWA

for the ERROR tour, they have been opening with Disciple, which is more like the secquencing of the ERROR album, but I think Z is the better opener for a concert. The one thing they need to work on for their overall performance pacing (and it hard to catch this by watching this live concert footage as it is edited) is the amount of time between songs. This isn't as much of an issues for their 30 minute sets as an opener because they structure those differently to force them to be quicker paced. But they should take some of that pacing and apply it to their 45-minute sets for festivals, which there will likely be more of in the near future as they have achieve main billing status as an evening performer. With their headliner shows, Dany does a fair job of talking to the crowd while covering for guitar changes and such, but if you watch fan cam recordings of their shows, you realize the pacing could be tighter. What would take them to the next level is streamlining the process. If what slows down the show is the guitar changes alone, they address that my arranging the setlist to minimize the number of guitar changes, grouping songs according to the guitar (and it's special tuning, etc) they use. The rest of it is just making the transitions more efficient. And if they schedule in brief rests for catching their breath, which is also a huge consideration not only for them but also the crowd, they could do something like their "Jar Song" break, of some game with the crowd like what Band-maid does in their shows. Obviously, such things are minor tweaks to their shows formats that once they incorporate them they will hardly be notices except that their pacing will be more high energy and will leave the audience even more pumped up. It is important I think for them to trade off vocals during the opening song(s) to demonstrate for anyone who is a first timer in the crowd to understand a major feature of their sound, that all three of them can sing. So, I understand using Disciple as their opening song because Ale has a short part where she does a lead vocal count. Lately, they also use Choke early on in their shows because they have swapped to Ale singing the low acapella vocal lead in that song.

@don-music Жыл бұрын
It’s a CAD M179 multipattern large diaphragm condensor mic, and after the mic preamp I’m running through a cheap but useful digital compressor that sounds far better than it ought to, and then in OBS I’m running a gate on the mic so quiet background noise is muted when I’m not talking, and finally I’m running an app on my MacBook to control the dual internal fans’ speed. I put some work into this lol… I’m very happy that it sounds better. My gain was too low in 23, but in Z i dialed it in better. Glad you like it!

Fair enough! Those who follow me are into watching how i work when i analyze things, and i do it as though I’m professionally analyzing the music as a producer and arranger and session player, not really for anyone else’s benefit. I have been asked by a lot of subscribers to go into that level of detail and that it’s appreciated, so it is what it is. I’m doing this because i love the band. I can’t please everybody, and i completely understand if my style isn’t for you. There are some amazing reactors, whether professional musicians like myself or not, who do excellent work with the warning songs on KZbin, and I personally suggest Ashlena, Party like A Rockstar Podcast, Offset Era and my favourite Bel Development. Have a great New Year!!
