Science is beautiful: It has a 3 cylinder 2-stroke engine. So the number of "power" strokes per one crankshaft rotation is doubled compared to a regular 4-stroke engine. If we want a 4-stroke engine to produce the SAME sound, we need to double the number of cylindes to reach 6 of them. At this point we have one of the best sounds in automobile industry: BMW inline-6 engine sound. Familiar? :D

agreed, both Porsche boxer and Honda V6 has similar & impressive sound too. Just the bimmer is more common in my country - every wannabe rides one loud - this it's why I mentioned it as an example. :)

I will soon be fifty and I get nostalgic every time I hear the sound of the two stroke engine. We had this car when I was a kid. The guy in the video is driving the car the right way. You needed high revolutions to keep it going. I was very proud every time my father overtook a car with a more powerful engine. When he put it to the metal the car began rattling and we could not hear a single word inside the car. 😀

I had a dkw 800s engine tuned till it nearly burst, got 125mph 139hp. Unlimited revs governed by the size of the carb, 15000rpm. Pity someone sideswiped me and wrote it off.

big difference :) This year I buy a car. But I can not decide. it would not be for everyday use. Do not go to work with him. Just friends, and trips. And sometimes drive a little winding road. The Wartburg is large and heavy. But the engine sounds beautiful. And normally I do not like so much. Only the old 353W. Another favorite is the Trabant 601. Small, light, and very beautiful. But the engine does not sound so nice. Both cars would get two-tone paintwork and a discrete lowering.
