Almost as good as my Bears tank job after they traded Smith and Quinn last year 😜 I much preferred that #1 pick and all that came from trading it vs a 6-11 season and the 7th pick where they would’ve only got Wright vs Wright, DJ Moore, Stevenson, this year’s #1 and a 2nd round pick for next year 😎

Honestly I think Howell has potential to be a very good starter. I’d still take Drake maye but considering how awful the o line was Howell had a pretty ok first year as a starter. Showed a handful of times he could ball out, but he needs a better supporting cast to help his consistency

I don’t think people realize how bad these players were coached last year, especially in the secondary. They were a top 10 defense in 2022, then they lost the secondary coach and replaced him with a guy that was coaching HS football. They need to find a top tier edge rusher, but the defense has talent.

I still think Howell is their guy. The kid was #12 in passing and pass yards per game in the whole league beating out jalen hurts and Lamar Jackson, the current mvp and previous mvp runner up. If he had an average O line, wasn’t the most sacked qb, and played a few more games he could’ve been claimed as their franchise savior and they’d be able to save draft capital and build around him without having to worry about the most important position. I hope he gets a better opportunity elsewhere, and I hope Maye doesn’t meet the same fate

You mentioned at the outset that we have 6 picks in the top 102. What if we had TWELVE picks in the top 120 and STILL had 1.6? IMPOSSIBLE, RIGHT? The QB QB QB hysteria has blown up the value of the top picks into something astronomical. yes there MIGHT be a certain value to be gained by replacing the QB. I think it is debatable since everyone agrees a new QB benefits from being redshirted while learning the NFL game. taking a QB at 1.2 would PROBABLY mean it would be IMPOSSIBLE not to play that guy right away, a rookie QB, and I think if that happens there is a strong possibility this new QB would do no better than Howell. Also I see Howell as represented by the first 6 games this past season, and the subsequent games as definitive that EB's offense was almost totally figured out, PLUS the yards from defender was the worst in the league. It could be we could find a better WR in the draft. there are a substantail amount of commenters here and on other sites who believe Howell is a good and perhaps great QB. Meanwhile, by consecutive trade downs 2 to 3 to 4 to 5 to 6 you accumulate, by fair value according to the simulator, 2.34, 2.35, 3.69, and 3.70. Fan the flames and you might get a LOT more. There really is no parallel to this QB QB QB hysteria. I suggested and then found another person suggesting we might get a lot of such picks and then trade some of them, maybe only 2 or else 2 plus a 2025 pick, back up to get 1.7 and take Brock Bowers and Joe Alt. In this case I still think we need to draft a QB, but I have noticed that Rattler (pff 57th) and Pratt (pff 75th) are highly rated, that Pratt is young enough he can still build arm strength, and I would be happy to have one of these or similar as our backup. I have seen reports that there are NOT a lot of quality TEs in this draft, and that Bowers' separation speed in the secondary is elite. Below, zylophone4840 makes the comment about owners wanting to make a splash. That definitely is what Snyder would have done, he did it more than once. Owners are sometimes in a bad position where they HAVE to find some way to put butts in seats and sell jerseys or they will lose a LOT of money and they are in it for the money. I think if we use the 2nd pick to "make a splash" we will find the new owners are the same as the old owner.

Ideally we'd get Drake Maye while Washington goes for Jayden Daniels, they we trade down in the 2nd round to get a lower 2nd and an extra 3rd so we can get an OT and double dip on WR. Ideally we finish the draft with a most of the pieces needed to fill up the offense.

Pats fan here too. Drake maye isn’t going to be shit. Ideally imo we draft Harrison as we still have first round capital tied up in jones. Get mayfield or Kirk thuggins in FA and see what moves can be made later in the draft for Oline and maybe see if trading to get Penix is a move. You don’t want to have a fresh QB that high in the draft when your Oline is still shaky. If you look at the QBs that have all had success early in their career, that’s been the formula. Oline AND weapons. Herbert, Burrow ( less on the Oline there) Hurts etc. Even when mahomes got into the league, he say behinds Alex smith with Reid set up talent around him.

I think they are in a tough spot for their first pick, sticking with Howell is risky but drafting a QB also is… Howell has showed good signs early on despite the struggles. I don’t think Maye or Daniels will be any different from Howell, but the draft is basically a guessing game at this point… any player can be an immediate success, a player that takes time to fully develop, or a completely dud. Beyond the first round they have a ton of great options though, and can make a big impact on the roster.

The question we need to be asking of all these up and coming teams is: Can they beat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the playoffs and/or in the Superbowl? Nothing else really matters for a team until that is a definite yes. Really hoping that will be the Lions in 2024 🙏

Tbh I disagree hard with having Washington go all in on Mike Evans. They have good-to-decent skill guys. They need o-line and secondary, bad, and we have seen how you can hit big production on rookie WRs in the draft. I would spend that money on defensive talent to contribute now, or any o-line that pop up on the market, and draft the WR instead

Another way of viewing the Young and Sweat trades is that they both were necessary for totally opposite reasons, to avoid getting nothing in return. Young was a bust and a lazy player even when healthy - they declined his 5th year option last spring so he was going to be a free agent next year anyway and the Commies absolutely were not going to re-sign him. Sweat was playing on his 5th year option and he was an absolute star who was going to make bank next year and the Commies were definitely not going to be able to afford him (or rather they might be able to but it would be a terrible idea because of all the glaring holes elsewhere on this roster). Plus even with them both on the line, the defense still stunk, so it was a lost season and they weren't coming back next year. So the trades got a little value back instead of nothing.

Can someone tell me why do they "need" to draft a quarterback ? What if anything is wrong with Howell ? He doesn't have much to work with and as this video points out the offensive line isn't that good either. Couldn't or shouldn't they use that 2nd pick to draft Marvin Harrison Jr and be set at wide receiver. Maybe find a TE and use the rest of their pics on O-line and D-line ? Maybe get a better O-line coach ? Thoughts anyone ?😊

No talk about them possibly getting desperate and trading a haul to my Bears to get #1 pick for Williams 😜 I feel like this is the purgatory we would’ve been in had Lovie not helped us out and won Week 18 to gift us #1 instead of #2. Hindsight being 20/20 and sitting at 2 with Stroud already picked and the choice to either draft Young or trade back for a lot less than Carolina gave up would’ve sucked.

Sorry but as a Wash Fan for 50+ years this title had me in stitches. Instead of the intended( at least I hope intended) optimism all it did to me, family members and coworkers all had the same reaction. Thats been our Mot since Snider bought the team. PLEASE stop using it, I feel like the jilted lover that never gets picked. lol. I know extreme titles and content are "popular". But I want somebody to tell it like it is. Tell the fans aint gonna fix it in one off season. It will be in phases over 2-3 years. Year one. FIX O and D lines one from FA and one from draft for BOTH sides of ball. No "value" or "culture" BS gimme DOGS. ANGRY TOUGH PHYSICAL men that DO NOT GIVE UP. Trade a 2nd rounder for Fields(better than CW, DM, or JD IMHO) could explain that but that would be 20 pages of text.....and draft Harrison Jr #2 overall. That is a MASSIVE upgrade to anything we have had for decades. Did it fix everything? No. But you are substantially better team, and can build on that. IF and only IF a team is willing to give up this and next years 1st and 2nd would I trade back. THAT would excite me more than any over the top articles. While your title is accurate, it is not what a Wash fan wants to hear AGAIN with new owner. Dont sugar coat. Give it straight. We will respect that.

Hey Doug I completely understand where you're coming from and I live in the DMV so I regularly talk to Commanders fans and feel like I have a good pulse with what's going on. I thought I acknowledged a few times within the video that this would not be a one year turn around and even said towards the end I think they will win 5-8 games in 2024 - implying they will not be a playoff team next year. The future for them starts with moves this offseason like drafting their QB of the future, and an OL or two to protect him in the future too

Im sorry, but I do not understand the hype behind Drake Maye. Compared to Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix, and JJ McCarthy, he doesnt have the accolades, experience, or success that those 3 have had. He has the "physical tools" they don't, but thats it, and more often than not those QBs don't work out. Josh Allen is an exception that, and AR-15 looked good before his shoulder injury, but those are the only QBs of that architype that have worked out.

Chase Young is a bust, as is Emmanuel Forbes. They should have drafted Gonzalez or Dalton Kincaid instead of Forbes. As far as free agents go their first play should be for Patrick Queen. They need LBs in the worst way. Mike Evans is 30 years old, they don’t need to get older in free agency. They need a TE. They have receivers, so a TE would be more help to Maye. Other than, they need LB, edge and OL.

The Rivera staff was so bad that I couldn't even say if we don't have a talented roster. None of the coaches knew how to play to players strengths. No one seems to question how across the board the entire defense regressed and standouts like Kam Curl didn't even prove if he was worth a new contract. Our DBs had a high school coach who has no nfl or college experience as a DB coach and the communication that was there last year was completely gone, so busted coverages are common. Not to mention the defense was complex for no reason and required crap like Safety Percy Butler having to learn 3/4 different playbooks because for FS, SS, Buffalo Nickel and Nickel Corner. All because position flex was important. Darrel Green saying "give me 10 minutes" with Emmanuel Forbes makes sense and is a major indictment on Rivera's staff. I wanted Gonzalez too, but you can't tell me these clowns wouldn't ruin him the same way. Also don't draft a Zone Specialist only to have him play a lot of man. Square peg round hole.
