Giles was so much more than a watcher for Buffy, he was a mentor and confidant. Family and Friend. From what we know, Buffys dad was not in the picture and Giles filled that role to perfection along side caring for not Just Buffy but the whole "Scooby Gang" I love Giles! And Anthony Stewart Head is such an amazing talent and presence on the show!

I think you captured Giles' calling exactly, Sir, he actually Does have a father's love of his charges (all of them- from his actions with regards to the "Scooby Gang"), and contrary to the claims of his boss, Quentin Travers- that is an asset to his work immesurably! I'd dare say if I were writing a manual for Watchers: "Make certain you see your charge as one of the following two things at all times (or both): as either an offspring of yours or a kid sibling; that will engender the proper protective/instructive affection you'll need to guide them in their struggles." and later on "It's a good idea to give the charge (Slayer) time to spend with friends and family and 'fun time', as it helps them to both blend in with their neighbors and will provide the charge with the drive to protect their community from the 'wolves lurking in the shadows' (here comparing the situation to "most people are the sheep, wolves effectively serve the dragon of Revelation (the Devil) and include things like HSTs, Bringers, and Gangsters (witches), and the like, and such a girl as Elizabeth Summers {Buffy} here is in this architype: a sheepdog or something else able to fight- it is said that occasionally you get not a dove but an eagle (a comparison the heroine of the series cites in the episode "Tabula Rasa" to the historic character and Saint, Joan of Arc; presumably her Confirmation Saint or somesuch), just something to consider), but such a person needs to be connected to their neighbors to keep on going... unless they're predatory by nature, or a loner by nature. That alone can become terrifying enough- though the truly dangerous ones will seek to intermingle with their neighbors to hurt them later on... think a squid infiltrating a school of fish for instance.

Never heard the song before. It is remarkable. The power it gives to the video is amazing. Giles was always my favorite character in Buffy. Oh my goodness. Please make more vids for my favorite show of all time. :) I came of age with this show when it was airing, and I have so much love in my heart for it still. Watching this, though, made me realize that Giles has probably always been one of my favorite characters, and I didn't even realize it.
