Even M. Nights first films were largely panned and no mostly forgotten before The Sixth Sense was a smash hit. I think she has what it takes to make something on that level, just needs a better script. But apparently she also loves way too much exposition. Like father like daughter.

To be fair this is based on a book. She didn’t write it. Same as some of her fathers most recent work like old

Wanted to like it too. First 30-40 mins of film was good. I don't care for the reveal and twist for the last parts of the movie. It would have been better if they didn't show any bits of the last parts, and let the audience imaginations try to piece it together.

Yes I wanted some ambiguity but they explained so much of the history behind the watchers it took me out of it.

watched it. so many loopholes. and overall so much of it doesn't add up. Dakota Fanning is awesome though.

Yep unfortunately putting much thought into it makes it kinda fall apart

Felt a bit like the village to me in how the twist occured and then there was another 30 minutes that went by that didnt add much to the story but raise more potential issues. Honestly i felt this was worse than the Village. Also as you mentioned i got to the end asking, so why didnt the changling leave the woods sooner? And how the heck did the guy build this place, its explained in the movie but the explanation makes no sense and raises way more questions. And finally, i went into the movie knowing nothing, i didnt know it was a shamalan movie, but at the end i thought to myself, that felt like a Shamalan movie (not in a good way), then his daighters name popped up and it all made sense lol

@@BoxOfChocolatez thanks for the reply, and yes, she is either expert as copying her fathers style or the "producing" role of her father was more than just "producing". Hoping she can learn from her fathers mistakes.

Finished the book this morning, then rewatched the trailer, and cringed about all the mistakes. I'll eventually stream it, and see how/if the third act was changed. The once again race swapped the ginger woman, in Ireland.... Smh.

Hopefully the book was enjoyable, I'd be open to giving it a shot.

@@BoxOfChocolatez It was a quick read, only 250pages or so, tight story, good pacing, twist was a tad obvious. I'm looking forward to compare the movie to the book, but won't go to the theaters for it. Ps. Keep up the good work!

Just like “A Knock at the Cabin”, M. Night wrecked the ending and point of the story by needlessly changing the ending. The book’s ending made much more sense and offers a scarier future for Mina. There’s a book sequel coming out, I believe.
@BoxOfChocolatez6 ай бұрын
M. Night did not make this movie, but it's interesting to learn that the book has a different ending, I'm curious to check it out.

You kept talking about the script having problems but the director did a good job. Didn't she write the script, too? I might be wrong.
@BoxOfChocolatez6 ай бұрын
She did but the story originally comes from a book. I don't know how similar it is, and maybe she should have made changes. But I was really just praising her talent for visuals, I'd be curious to see an original script from her before judging too harshly on that front.
@offdutyenglishmajor99246 ай бұрын
@@BoxOfChocolatez That's fair. I'd rather wish well on a creator than hope for their failure myself. Your praises are the ones I've heard all around: the visuals are atmospheric and creepy.
