It's because 3D animation (& the style most 2d cartoons use now) is cheaper & more efficient these days than anything hand-drawn. It's sad, but that's how it is in the industry these days, & it probably will never go back to allowing the unique art styles older cartoons could profit from.

Moominpapa is definitely not my favorite character. After calling that orphan a horrible saw tooth monster, I couldn't have imagined what else he could do that would reflect his horrible character, but now after saying he wished to dream of that nymph more while Moominmamma is alive and well and literally the best character and the person in the whole show... He proved me wrong. Simply, trash. Moomin trash. He also many times has expressed his crushes for many "pretty" pop up characters in the show, but here he just crossed the line way too much.
