I grew up in south Louisiana and this movie was such an important part of my childhood. You can't possibly understand how accurate some of this is. Every Cajun I know wanted to hate this movie because we assumed it would be making fun of us - instead it laughs with us at how ridiculous life in our beloved boot is. Btw, the lawnmower thing is totally accurate. I know quite a few people that got around on lawnmowers or tractors because they didn't have a driver's license. Maybe not back and forth to work or school, but down the road to the corner store or something, yeah.

The 'gibberish' is legit how some Bayou people talk. I can understand it after a while. But this was probably the first movie I saw of Adam's, besides Billy Madison. Kathy Bates was criticized heavily for doing this movie. She wasn't known for doing comedic roles, and many saw it as 'beneath' her to be in 'a silly Sandler movie'. He wasn't taken seriously yet. And no one could understand why Henry Winkler was there, but it became a 'Where's Waldo?' type deal to find him in Adam's comedies after this.

The actor Rob Shneider who says to "cut off his head" and "you can do it all night long" is in a lot of movies with Adam Sandler. He talks in a similar way with the crowds in Happy Gilmore. They work well together. Rob is also in a movie called The Benchwarmers. Benchwarmers features the actor who played Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder). It would certainly be a funny non family friendly movie to watch. Its about three adults going against an entire little league baseball season by themselves in order to stick it to all those bullies who never let any of the non athletic types have any fun. It also features Terry Cruise and James Earl Jones among other famous actors/actresses. Imagine Napoleon Dynamite meets the movie Dodgeball. Thats whats it is like a mixture of. It also features some fan culture references like starwars and the tv show night rider. Its a good one to try if your interested.
