Anyone in eSports needs to watch this. It's not if you will fall, it's when. Love the tip about carving, thx!

7:15 that's stunning, how effective can be energy dissipation by a proper landing technique
@AdamU10163 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed! It’s so amazing how the technique itself can be so effective in dissipating all that massive energy.

Great work, Brother. I practice Ukemi in Jiu-Jitsu constantly, but it is based on natural movements. I'm still a believer that you are at the mercy of the wheel and how you fall is luck of the draw. The only real way to practice this, is to induce a wheel failure. Having said that, this is the best video out there on mitigating those circumstances. Hopefully, we'll never have to put it in practice.

Thanks, Brother Ted. I originally had wanted to show a tuck and roll demo of myself simulating a fall from my wheel but about 3 weeks ago I had fallen while doing seated riding again on grass. There must have been a giant hole because the wheel unexpectedly fell forward. I was not quick enough to do a tuck and roll. I banged my left forearm on the ground. Even with elbow pads the impact still hurt. I most likely have a bone contusion and it will take 2-3 months to fully heal. Mobility is unaffected. Pressure on the affected area is still sore 3 weeks later. Because of that fall, I had to avoid doing my tuck and roll demo. We are definitely at the mercy of the wheel. As soon as I am fully healed I will be getting back on my tuck and roll practice regimen. I need to make this tuck and roll reaction to the point of being reflexive so that next time I will react quickly and effectively. Hope to see you soon, Brother Ted!

Thank you for the great advice Adam, I ride an EUC and being 6.2ft I realise how much higher off the ground I am, so although I thankfully have not experienced any falls as yet, It's definitely good to know how to do it properly.
@AdamU10163 жыл бұрын
Yes. The proper tuck and roll is so important. So many injuries could have been avoided if people will take the extra time to learn this. Whether slow or fast speed, this technique certainly is quite useful. We need to train to the point that the reaction becomes reflexive because we only have microseconds to react.

this is such correct info and integrated into the hobbies we are doing.. the lesson here and demo's of what is to be done is spot on correct... dissipation of energy so that nothing is focalized to break muscle Skelton structure but to spread it out to all parts.. Fantastic Adam !

Yo this is one of the hardest intro’s I seen on a KZbin video! Pullin up on the Euc in the doctor fit is too classic lol much respect my G 💯

Thanks! I love the intro because that short clip basically describes my channel since it shows the wheel and my scrubs from work. I try to provide some medical info to my wheel videos. I was also giving it a Superman type of vibe with the green jacket in slow motion. 😂 Thanks for watching!

This its really good. I often tell frie do to learn how to fall and they all laugh, I also come from a very active background that teaches me how to fall safely and this started before helmets became a thing. Alot of bmx, downhill mountain biking, speedball,rollerblading, and riding cows in my childhood. Lol. Also 9 motorcycle accidents with the last one breaking my neck and spine, this one was with just a German half face helmet. I ride in the streets on Brooklyn 99% of the time and still go down like ones per month. When first got into eskate I never liked pads or helmets. And had a spill at 28mph in the center of traffic, I most had rolled 4-5 times and got up dust off and kept it moving. Road rash was ofcourse there but no broken bones, all thanks to knowing how to fall. I hope someone take away from this video. Very accurate thanks for sharing my Brotha...

You have definitely experienced your share of accidents and lived to tell the tale. Knowing how to fall is so important. Hope you’ve fully recovered from your accidents.

You’re welcome! Glad you liked it. The proper tuck and roll technique is so essential for the wheel life. The most common injury when practicing for this is hurting your shoulder so please don’t rush in learning the steps. Good luck!

@@AdamU1016 I can confirm that. Rushing practising tuck and roll technique can be painful at begining. In my case shoulders and upper hips took some beating. They became so painfull I had to take brake in practising for some time. Adam thank you for bringing this topic up. I think it is very important.

one thing that will distract falling methods is usually the rider bring 360 camera stick !
@AdamU10163 жыл бұрын
I have been guilty of the 360 stick too. However, my rationale is better that than the regular action cam where I have to be more concerned with pointing at the subject and hence more distraction.
@Tennouseijin2 жыл бұрын
Optionally, you can turn a fall into a flying kick, and use some bad guy to cushion your fall. At least that's what I learned from masters Lee and Jackie. ... but just in case there are no bad guys in range, I guess I'll practice safe falling/rolling without them too.
@AdamU10162 жыл бұрын
Ha ha! Sounds like a great idea for my next video. I will need to look for some bad guys first. Lol.

That's awesome doc, especially the mini carving while rolling, which isn't something I do but will be testing out from now on ... and the tuck and roll will go in the back pocket just in case. Thank you. I just saw a Russian rider use this technique at the 23:23 mark ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5fTXn2Hacieb68 ... but paid a price for not wearing knee pads or wrist pads .. ouch! ... and it didn't knock any sense into his head as he still hit 50km before the end of his ride ... lol ... OK then. Watch and learn folks.

Thanks for that link. The gear is a must when riding the wheel. He should have known better. The carve and sway technique is so important. It doesn’t even have to be a wide carving either. Just tiny carvings will make a difference. Enjoy your rides and stay safe!

Please keep making your videos. Although I’m subscribed to your channel, sometimes after a long time I don’t think of your good work, but then a new video with your good narrating voice reminds me again. Hey Adam! Thanks for the advice! But I did not understand point *** number 3: carve and sway with your shoulders***. What does this mean? Explain please !!
@AdamU10163 жыл бұрын
I wasn’t swaying as much with my shoulders as I was carving with my feet because the path was close quarters with my OneWheel friend. Basically when I carve to the right, I should be swaying my upper body or shoulders to the right. It is small micro movements of swaying the shoulders in the same direction as the carving. Carving and swaying doesn’t even have to be dramatic. As long as you are not riding in a straight line with legs completely straight, you are good to go. Should an accident occur and you are about to fall, the carving and swaying and legs bent technique will prepare you for a proper tuck and roll. No swaying and carving and legs straight sets you up for a faceplant.
