For me, its boner pills. Hitler was notorious for having certain performance issues, and he tried various remedies to help increase his abilities in the bedroom. Many of these remedies containted mercury, amphetamines, even cyanide. There is a lot of evidence that suggests his continued mental decline was due, in large part, to his "remedies" or as i called them, "boner pills".

I always thought D-Day stood for “Disembarkation Day”… You know how allied planners LOVED their particular style of language when it came to literally anything that might be written down or even spoken aloud. I also thought it was fitting in that the definition of disembarkation is: “The act of leaving a vehicle, especially a ship or aircraft and at the end of a journey”. Maybe I’m just reading too much into it, but it’s nice to think about the possible intent behind the choice of words being “The end of the journey, the last boat you’re going to be on until you’re heading home, the final push…”. Disembarkation

In 1983, I was trained in our version of the bouncing Betty, M60 anti tank mines and Claymores. I was then a member of the USMC Engineer school. In doing so, we also trained in removing mines. Our Bettie’s had the “kicker” charge in them as a training aid. We wore face shield as we did so. I witnessed a fellow Marine removing an anti tank mine. As he did, his right foot set off a Betty surrounding the big one. We all heard a “pop”. He spun around only to be hit in the face as the Betty emerged. It lifted him off his feet and he landed on another. The second bruised his kidney. We later had to dig a grave, and partially bury him and mock cry (Marine Corps engineer instructors are a little sick). Later, we all laughed our asses off at the poor idiot!!!

Regarding land mines: There is an excellent Danish film called (English version) 'Land of Mine', which is loosly based on true historic events after the Second World War, where German Prisoners Of War, many just teenagers, were used by Danish authorities for mine clearance duties (Clearing German mines from Denmark). 1.3 million mines were cleared by 2000 German POWs, resulting in 149 of them losing their lives during the five months of mine clearing, 165 were severely wounded and 167 lightly wounded. In retrospect this has been classed as a war crime. Land mines really are a horribly unethical weapon since they'll kill ANYONE, man, woman, child, or animal who steps on them, often many years after the conflict is over. Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam are still full of landmines left over from the Vietnam War.

It's interesting that General Groves was always DEEPLY worried about his huge and complicated teams of scientists sharing project information between them and cooperating. But they did. Thus inspiration and brilliance was able to fill in the gaps - Far more progress was made. The vast Manhattan project teams worked on solving hundreds of crucial interlinked technical problems IN PARALLEL! If Robert Oppenheimer hadn't managed to convince Groves to allow this - they would probably have failed to build and test even one of the atomic bomb designs in 1945. As a result the war would have lasted even longer and killed millions more. Just imagine if the Manhattan project HAD totally failed! Mainly due to military security fears. Hundreds of brilliant scientists, bottled up into small isolated teams across America, so they couldn't find the brilliant solutions they DID find. A practical Atomic Bomb might not have been built until the mid 60s or later. Our entire Atomic history would have been different. Possibly focused on Power generation - NOT on a stunningly expensive 40 year long Cold War.

One of key assets of the USA uranium bomb program was the Tennessee Valley Authority, a "Great Depression political boondoggle", which built numerous unneeded, often unequipped, power dams in the 1930s. This system was quickly and completely built out with all its needed generating equipment and transmission lines during WW2 and provided the huge amounts of electric power required to separate the rare fissile uranium bomb isotope from its much less active, much more common uranium, close relative.
