Being the nerd I am, if I found a genuine treasure that possibly had significant scientific or historical value, I’d immediately contact the proper authorities to keep the items from being destroyed or damaged by those with more selfish motives…. The amount of lost history that has been destroyed by ignorant people who just want to cash in their finds and have no concern for the value to human history or science is astounding… The library at Alexandria is a good example… though I don’t think it contained any magical or supernatural knowledge in its scrolls or manuscripts, but it surely did contain priceless written accounts of life in ancient times.

However a few years ago one guy found a massive gold nugget worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, and foolishly told the local media in the area about it. Next minute the government confiscated it from him as he didn’t have a fossicking permit even though he was on a designated fossicking area. The message everyone took away? They were in fact both different families that emigrated after WWI with similar names who both changed their names to the same western name to fit in and so weren't related and even from different countries in post war Europe.
