Used to listen to this when I was a teenager over 30 years ago and it’s still holding its own all these years later. Brilliant!

I lived in Manchester in 1988. I was 21 and out most nights of the week. This album meant a lot to me then. I can’t remember why, but it’s still damn good.

The 'Best' Wedding Present album literally. A fine cover star. Wonderful guitars & David Gedge lyrics are all a great combination. Craig. + + \/

It's the sneer and absolute loathing in the last line that always gets me. "Kevin" pronounced so it rhymes with hunt.

Brilliant reference to this song in Succession. Classic Jesse Armstong! Surprised it hasn’t brought more people along here yet

Why should I want to know his name? What difference does it make? You know I tried dead hard to keep away, I just had to call again Where did you go last night? Oh, what's that new place like? Okay, I won't ask any more questions and then you cannot tell me lies Well they always need good men They're crying out for them It's not the sort of job I'd do myself, but then I'm not him Oh, he buys you pretty things And what does your mother think? I just can't bear to imagine you sharing a bed with him Tell me why should I be upset? Some kid I've never met We better sort this out before I go and say something I'll regret No, I'm sure it suits him I'm not trying to be anything Before I leave I want you to give my love to Kevin

Brilliant lyrics. He's being a bit shitty but my heart is breaking for him.

@@paddyeejit1954 For me that is always one of the appeals fo Gedge's lyrics. He doesn't sugar-coat his own part in the drama. But that just makes him more relatable. An absolute gem of a song and a song-writer.

Guess what football ground that pic of GB was taken at.

Hillsborough??

@Darrenski Nope. I recognised it instantly when I first clapped eyes on the album in 1987. This is the home ground of the team I support. To be fair, some of my fellow supporters (some even older than me) didn't know it was taken here! Going by that collar, this around 1972/73. Apologies - I am a bit of a football ground nerd - Give me just the briefest, narrow glimpse of a stand/terrace and I'm off.
