@TheMatadrum10 ай бұрын
They still have a limit to the amount of downforce each car produces, but to make them comparable in a racing sense they need to make them aerodynamically balanced. The problem for a long time during the year was the cars had the same downforce but achieved it with a different balance front to rear. You could see this advantage in the ability of the Chev teams to conserve their rear tyres better.

@zchettaz10 ай бұрын
I think this is kinda pointless as it doesn't replicate real-world conditions in serveral aspects. First, the car/s infront will be disturbing the air that the subject car is driving into, so the flow of air hitting the front wont ever be constantly smooth or even unless you're in first position with a direct head or tail wind. (or in a controlled wind tunnel) Second, racetracks have gradients, inclines/declines etc., which change the aero, drag and downforce of the car at those said parts of the track (which doesn't get tested in a level surfaced wind tunnel) Third, (and i probably should have started with this as its one of the first things you learn in fluid dynamics) downforce is directly linked to air density, which is directly linked to temperature and we know the temperature of the track can be much higher than the ambient temperature. Without getting into the math, generally every 3°C difference will change its aero balance by 1% - this equates to a roughly 2mm difference for both the splitter on the front bumper and rear wing, therefore changing the entire aero. (again, this doesn't happen in a wind tunnel) As this comment is already too long, I wont mention the weight of the driver, fuel load or even the fact that a small crack on the front bumper from a nose-to-tail love tap will render an aero difference and making all this pointless.
@angusmacgyver139010 ай бұрын
If you truly believe this was pointless, then you don't understand why the parity is used to start with for all cars By your information above, and If you understand the start of the video then the Mustang had the better aero package advantages to begin with particularly on the front splitter for all heights through the range, not the Camaro as the Mustang crews had been claiming to justify their changes throughout the season
@zchettaz10 ай бұрын
@@angusmacgyver1390 I clearly dont understand. If you want aero parity then do what nascar did and give them all the same shell. As ol' mate said in the video its like they're chasing their own tale, thats because changing one thing comprises another - so increasing downforce will help with cornering, but not top end speed as it generates more drag the faster you go. You only need to look at F1 DRS (drag reduction system) to see how much difference it makes. The overall point im making is that making these miniscule changes to have parity in a wind tunnel doesn't mean they will have parity out on the track.
