Finally someone that loves the razor guitar. Come 'on, a lot of people are over-reacting only because it's a signature model for MGK. I just cannot get over the fact that Steve Vai, Prince, etc..., can go on stange with the strangest guitars ever with people be like "wow, I want that", and once a strange guitar get a release they are like "no, thanks". I would never buy such a guitar, but I understand its beauty.
@wbfaulk11 ай бұрын
I feel like people feel that Steve Vai and Prince have a command of the instrument that allows them to go outside the norm with it and lend an air of authority to the changes. While MGK … doesn't.

That Laney 4x12 makes sense for stadium gigs. Justin Derico is playing here in NZ with Pink soon and requested two of the 2x12 laney LFR cabs. Now they have this he’ll be able get the 4x12 in future. For me though, I have zero need or desire for a big heavy cab. I switched to a fractal to make the setup lighter, more consistent and with more options. Esp at lower volume
@JesterDyne11 ай бұрын
I totally agree. Yes i'm dumb enough to carry my 4x12 and 120W Head to the gigs, but i play 5-6 Gigs a year for Fun. If i would play more often i would buy a light small Monitor wedge to place in front of me just if there isn't one in the venue + a modeller. Look for Keyboard Monitors, the aren't hyped and cheap :D A big bulky Cab defeats the whole point of a modeller for me. I don't get it.

Nice to see you back after your vacation. Kudos to Laney for being Rock'n Roll... we need more of that! And honestly, it's so uncomfortable adjusting your amp-top when it sits on the floor. A 4x12 gives it just the right height to tweak the knobs in style and having your beer perfectly accessible by placing it on top of it. 😆

The giant Laney 412 is super interesting - I could see these becoming a staple for quality rehearsal spaces, so many players using full modelling or pedal rigs at home and a way to fully translate that easily in a practice space would be way cooler than a botched "sort of" rig removing your own IRs of choice to go through some old beat up 412 that cost £500 8 years ago. Devin Townsend helped them develop it too which is also super cool! .

If it actually had the razorblade cutout in the middle, and looked more like steel, and came to some sort of sharp edge, it might be cool. As it is, it's just a grey rectangular shape with a simple shape silkscreened onto it. Admittedly, the cutout would be pretty hard, what with it being inline with the neck and pickups, but that doesn't make the compromise effective.

He would just end up being blown on the stage by dB 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah that MGK signature guitar is just a variant of Bo Diddley's rectangular guitar. I have one of the lower priced Gretsch Bo Diddley models and, I think I'll stick with that over this variant. But, I do like that Schecter has the jack on the end of the guitar instead of the side like the Bo Diddley model. For that shape having the jack on the end seems more natural.
@Fergieguitar11 ай бұрын
I still use Laney 4x12 cabs but at the price of the FRFR, I'd get 4x2000w headrush frfr cabs and go mega stereo...nope sticking to a normal 4x12 and tube head as long as I can carry them.
@1man1guitarletsgo11 ай бұрын
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is FRFR (Full Range, Flat Response) essentially a PA speaker? If the appeal is purely visual, then an empty 4 x 12" cab (half-depth, even) would suffice, with a fake valve amp on top. I'm sure this has been done before, by big bands playing through small amps, with apparently massive backlines. Nowadays, a digital modeller plugged straight into the PA, and you're good to go.

A RAZOR BLADE? Whatever floats your boat… this reminds me of a bass guitar owned by a friend of mine many years ago. This ax was shaped like an executioner’s axe! I thought it played okay, but the body shape and size made it rather awkward. That’s MY opinion.

The Laney 412 cab is just…wrong. what were they thinking? First off, it’s representing two totally different customers mixed in one product that really serves NEITHER. Take the live amp kind of guy: he wants the sound of a 412 pushing air (preferably as light as possible), so he doesnt need IRs…that’s not why he bought a friggin 412! Plus, the speakers are FRFR, so they’re gonna sound like shit on distorted tones. Then, take the modeler guy: he DEFINITELY favors the lightweight rig. That’s why he got a modeler! This thing is 100lbs or so, so that rules out the modeler guy too. Who is gonna buy that thing except the handful of guys who just want a 4x12 laying around as a paperweight? A TWO GRAND paperweight.
@saarangnarayan12311 ай бұрын
I like the ridiculous nature of the razor blade guitar but I don't like the thing itself (partly because of the [indirect] self-harm connotations). The Ibanezezezezezez tho... Really like the 1221 and the AZ offerings. Good to see more S series in the lineup. Looking forward to more releases from them throughout the year. EDIT: if the razor blade was 899, I could get behind it maybe. But for 1500, that's not gonna happen. 15-year old emo boys (the target audience of this guitar) don't have that kind of money to spend, and I'm guessing Millennial former-emo-boys are going to spend that money elsewhere.
@MikeSingSing11 ай бұрын
Don't get the Laney cab. For that price point a good cab (hell, a used Mesa/Engl 4x12) + a decent poweramp like the Seymour Duncan powerstages is a cheaper option (+you could also use that power stage for different setups). I think Laney won't sell many of these.
