"What kind of guitar company would pretend their cheaper guitars are the same as their more expensive guitars by giving it the same thing on the headstock?" Oh I know this one! @lefthandpath1587
@lefthandpath1587 5 ай бұрын
I'd settle for Les Pauls 1) staying in tune for longer than 15 minutes when playing and 2) fixing that sh*tty headstock angle that guarantees a break if the guitar touches the floor. Gibson's adherence to what is clearly a design flaw for durability just reinforces that if you own an LP, you've bought form over function.

Would you rather buy a $1300 for a MIC Epiphone that has Gibson Custom Shop pickups and comes in a hard case, or would you rather pay $2300 for a MIA PRS S2 that has PRS USA production pickups and comes in a soft gigbag. In my opinion, it makes no sense to pay for American overinflated labor costs when you can get a guitar with the exact same components as a USA one, just you save $1000 on the labor because it's assembled in China.

Personally I think that the 1959 ES 355 is actually a fair price. It also has Custombuckers, a 1 piece neck, Grover tuners, Ebony board, proper block inlays, some sort of "historic" stop bar etc for £1199...I mean call me crazy, but I'd happily buy that

The PRS S2 is surely above the MIM Fenders. As a PRS customer I'll say I have a beautiful SE but the S2 is better. The quality is there, "not quite as good" is totally incorrect. And I've always known the pickups were the same, which perform as well as the Duncans, DiMarzios and Gibsons I have (yes I play live a lot). They just don't have he stupid expensive price tag and all the superficial frosting you don't need. The S2 is probably more akin to the upper level standard production U.S. Fender guitars, while the upper level PRS guitars are like a Klon - and all that may imply, good or bad.

I feel like the biggest visual difference between PRS, S2, and SE is the carve of the face of the body. The mainline PRS has a smooth carve, while the S2 has bevels to a flat face. (Kind of like the carve difference between a Les Paul and an SG.) It used to be that the SE also had the beveled flat face, but it looks like they've changed that to be a shallower smooth carve recently.

Everybody loves the $700 Epiphones and don't care about the the six piece body which I cannot get past. This is not the same guitar, so maybe it deserves the headstock. Look at he SGs - they are a dead giveaway when you see the proper wood body. They are actually another level of guitar. Helpful hint: want to get around the scrapwood body at the regular price? Get the Koa Top. Since the back has a seam in it I doubt it's a veneer, unless they're REALLY being cheap.

My pick of the week is definitely the S2! That PRS S2 I recently played at a certain music store (🤭) still haunts me to this day... The new Epiphones are pretty cool too. First time I'm considering adding a LP to the bunch!

Compared to some recent epiphones I think these are much better with the pricing. Considering the superior pickups and arguably higher end electronics they don’t run that much more than most prs se’s of similar style.

@lefthandpath1587

PRS S2 = Solution Searching (for a problem). The reason PRS is suddenly offering US pickups is because they didn't realize their anticipated sales with S2s that were 'kinda sorta mostly American made' at the 2K price point. Folks looked at the value proposition of those versus SEs and said nope, not worth another $1,300. - and they are *still* not.

Picking up an acoustic guitar is simpler. Just like an electric guitar amp isn’t for someone who is just playing unamplified acoustic, the Simplifiers aren’t for people who are just plugging into an amp. Some of us have had complicated setups that a Simplifier does indeed simplify.

Agree with all of this except the 'hold value' part -= this is where folks get into trouble. Guitars are not investments. If you want to preserve the value of your dollars, buy stocks. If you buy Gibsons esp. Les Pauls hoping they'll retain or increase in value - well, you're betting on a lot of 55-70 year old men living for another 30 years.
