Shows how good Federer was in 2019. Injury-free and the movement was so exceptional especially when he runs around to his forehand side. Unfortunately he could not sustain it for another year and the pandemic hit. Federer's last titles and finals were also his firsts upon going to the top 20 years ago. Basel, Dubai, Miami, Wimbledon.

He might still be playing now if he had competent knee surgeons. Unfortunately, he relied on the doctors in his own country while there were better doctors elsewhere. He had multiple surgeries all on the same condition. Got a second opinion in the UK after he retired. Too late.
@alexandermallinckrodt28474 ай бұрын
@@twinwankelsilly comment. Federer had his first meniscus surgery in 2016 when they opted to trim the meniscus. That was the best treatment available at the time and after that he was on borrowed time. If you continue at the same intensity with a trimmed meniscus the issue will come back. Technology and medicine has advanced a lot in the past 8 years. However Switzerland was, and remains, the world leader in orthopaedic surgery.

And why not always have a court that is neither fast nor slow? that would be fair for all players.
@bobomber4 ай бұрын
@@scottwarren4998I used to think the same way, but the truth is that having a variety of surfaces makes the game more varied and interesting and the results less predictable, and makes the players have to adapt instead of always employing the same strategies. If we were going to have something like standardized playing conditions for long stretches, I would say they need to be low bouncing enough to incentivize players to attack and go to net, but without having the serve become too dominant.

His winning 100 titles at age 37 was not any making of history at all. Connors won 100 titles by age 31, and still holds the record at 109 titles. And Connors started later than Federer and didn't have a coach. So he won his titles about 50% faster than Federer, which is just incredible. How soon people forget.

Roger Federer could have played better - of course - but there is no other player in history that second after second you feel embarassed by the portent of a specific shot that you leaves you feeling stupid with a superlative. it has happened so many times you want to say " yeah ..., there is another " Roger " ... When comparing his serve, backhand, volley etc etc - it is hard to say any player in history is better at one of his strokes. Why ? because he surpasses them in precision and consistency. he was the first player to consistently hit the LINES in his shots. later it seemed he was shooting for the outer-half of the lines. it really would be horrible to compare him to any other player . just leave him in his own space.
