Did you notice the size of the wardrobe in that massive room? It was tiny by comparison. I think if they'd partition walled part of that huge space and made a good sized walk in wardrobe/dressing room it would have made the bedroom more functional. It did look nicer at the end and the headboard worked but the finished room reminded me more of a large studio apartment than a bedroom that was part of a house. I guess there is such a thing as too much space!

The remodeling is perfect according to budget, the headboard is stunning !!! And only note, that every object might be bigger. The colorful blueish print can be taller for half wall and wide from window to window, and framed of a white molding. Side tables might be wider 2x and if the desk will be near to a reading nook will be awesome.

Great job. I love the headboard and the console table. I would have painted the inside of the "fireplace" black and maybe turned the chairs towards it. Then add a table between the 2 chairs. But I know budget was an issue. They can lay down tiles as a hearth and maybe add candles for cold nights and have a glass of wine there. The other sitting area is fantastic. Thanks for doing these videos. Great inspiration.

I feel the faux fireplace needs something. Anyone else? I'd do something else there, maybe a bookcase? Or a dog sleeping area? Or a beanbag for the kids to sit on if they come visit mom and dad? :P It's their bedroom, are they going to invite people in and ask them to sit in front of the fake fireplace? The rest is wonderful. Love the headboard.
@hart32546 жыл бұрын
I agree, put in a gas fireplace. They are affordabe now and get rid of the fake mantle, it looked out of place and silly imo.. Then I would of hung a tv over the fire place and put some loveseats in front. Also I don't know how big their closet was but there were no dressers in the room, odd.

@@jt.s.7418, I have a gel fuel fireplace in my living room and there is nothing more cozy than having a fire going on cold evenings, beginning this time of year (it's October 2020 here now and deep into autumn and getting colder by the day), and especially during the holidays, I have a fire every evening. Three cans of gel fuel, burns cleanly and completely, doesn't need venting, throws off real flames and real heat (be sure you have a screen in front of the fire to prevent sparks from flying out) and even pops, snaps and crackles like a real wood fire does.

They could fill the space with a whole other family.
@jannibal92734 жыл бұрын
With unlimited funds they could build a wall and create an entirely new room upstairs. But if the master bedroom is that large, they probably already have a large loft area or "family room" area over the garage plus a "family room" area in addition to a formal "sitting room" (what we used to call a living room in the "old days" before McMansions became popular) on the main floor of the house, and perhaps even ample space in the basement that is also finished off. I mean - they have 2 adults and 2 people rambling around in what 5,000 square feet? It blows my mind - and just imagine what the real estate taxes, homeowners insurance, and utility bills must be for such a place every month. They live in New York or close thereto - it's going to be UBER EXPENSIVE and it gets damn cold and snowy in the winter.

I know she did the best she could but I was really hoping they would do a large dressing room/closet. I have one and it's the best decision I ever made. I know it's a lot to ask of one weekend and a limited budget but that's what that room needs. There's nothing better than an impressive walk-in closet and it doesn't look like the space has one. In addition, I would have turned that couch around, hung a giant TV on the wall so that it could be seen from the both the couch and the bed and made that into a true parental retreat. If it's going to be as large as a studio apartment, it may as well have all of the same amenities. I also think the console table between the windows is a little small for the space. There should be a LARGE piece of art between those windows, two statement lamps, and a longer table, if that's how the room is going to be oriented. I think the real problem is that this massive space needs a bigger budget and enough time to do it right. Usually, her designs are great but this one can't help but miss the mark. It just needs MORE.

This is probably my third or maybe even my 4th time viewing this series, I just love Monica! This room was great, as far as it went. I realize, though, such a HUGE space there is only so much that can be done in 2 days plus a little finish up. I really liked the idea of the fireplace mantel and still do, but those chairs - nope - mistake. You need something more lush, plush and comfy there and bigger, to take up more space. And a big fat cushy ottoman. I think the fireplace should have also been built out further from the wall and heat lining installed so you could use an electric log set and really give it a more total and romantic/cozy look, especially in the winters in New York state! Maybe these are projects that the owners eventually did themselves, or brought carpenters in to do. I would love to see some follow-ups of some of these episodes (4 seasons worth and enjoyed every single one of them) now - a few years later - to see how they've held up and whether they've stood the test of time. Monica has such fab ideas and they can be applied to so many different types of homes (like my plain old 1956 basic 3/1 "ranch" house in Milwaukee) that's why I keep coming back and watching her over and over again. The inspiration never gets old.

Looking at this once again on 10/17/20. I would like to have seen a deeper fireplace mantel, a hearth, and either a set up for gel fuel with ceramic logs (the gel fuel actually gives you real flames and heat but is safe to use without venting outdoors because it burns clean), or an electric fireplace "screen" or a log set-up of some kind. Staring at a 3 inch deep "fireplace" with nothing in it just smacks of - NOTHING. And those chairs were not inviting you to sit there and have an intimate conversation on a cozy evening before the "fire," either. But I loved what Monica did with the rest of the room, considering the limited time and budget she evidently had and trying to fill that huge space so it's useful without looking overcrowded. Frankly, how much time do people actually spend in their "master suites" when they're now at home essentially against their own choice because of the pandemic!
